Having had a faultless Ford Escort for the last 11 years, I qualify for a 2000 pound stirling discount under the UK Scrappage Scheme that starts on 18 May 2009.

I've looked at a Toyota Aygo Blue 998cc 3-door manual.

The Book Price is 8495 pounds stirling (increased from 8250 on 01 May 09)

I can have it for 6200 pounds stirling.

Is this good value ?

I'd say so yes. I'm in a similar position with my 12 year old Peugeot 106. £6495 OTR for either the standard 3 door Blue or Black from my local dealer.

Leaning towards the Black with A/C, tacho and glove box lid as extras makes it £7201.98. To quote my dealer "could probably do it for an even £7200" thus a discount of £1.98! Oh and he's saying 11 weeks for delivery.

Still undecided though as the stories of water ingress make me a little nervous - anyone know if this issue is resolved on the 09 models? From the literature posted here about the new 09 spec I see nothing about improved door seals.

The water leaks are a major concern for me, my blue is due for delivery in 3 weeks, and the fact i may have a bucket worries me.

Don't be put off by the Aygo's list of faults. My Aygo is coming up for 2 years old (25000 miles) and has been water tight up to now. Just this week I have noticed water gathering inboard of the seals at the bottom of the doors. When I open the door, the water runs out. No doubt before long the leak will be bad enough to come into the footwell. I am also experiencing piston slap and the clutch is very soggy.

Despite this I still like the car. It has character which is missing from most modern cars especially budget ones. It reminds me of my Hillman Imp, full of faults but a laugh a minute to drive.

I would say "go for it" but don't expect trouble free motoring. There's always the three year warranty to take advantage of.

I've noted the points about water leaks and I'm sure that Toyota will have cured it by now.

If not, I don't see it as a major problem that can't be easily overcome.

I prefer the metallic Lagoon Blue colour to Black - Black can be a nightmare to keep clean - and the air conditioning is thrown in with the price. :yahoo:

I've just done the same thing, have had a fiesta 1.25 for last 7 1/2 years, which I use for commuting 25 miles each day and was looking at replacing in another 2 years. Brought it forward as what I spend now will only get me a second hand car in 2 years time. Think the srappage deal will attract more buyers of small cars like the Aygo rather than bigger cars.

I ordered an Aygo + yesterday along with some extras & managed to get a bit of extra discount by phoning round all of the Toyota dealers for best price and then go to my local dealer with this price. Looking forward to getting a lot lower mpg, road tax and insurance than I currently pay. Like other buyers I hope I dont get any of the faults that have been reported. I did ask at the dealer and they said that most of these faults were on older models and that the newer ones dont have these faults.

Thanks - the three year warranty really does appeal to me.

I'm a ''low milage user'' so I would need a service every 12 months (rather than every 10,000 miles) to comply with the warranty.

The main dealer has quoted me service charges as follows: :help:

After 1 year 90 pounds stirling

After 2 years 165

After 3 years 80

After 4 years 150

After 5 years 70 pounds stirling

I would more or less pay for this with what I would save on Road Tax and Insurance. :yahoo:

I've had my '57 Blue for 18 months and no leaks.... so don't let a few problems put you off what is, IMO, a fab little car and with £2k off, a fab little deal!

I drive an mx-5 in the summer and have a winter 12 year old fiesta for the grit times of year and for people to barge in the works car park.

Ordered my base model aygo on the scrap deal, £5290 for a new Toyota. Already got some mudflaps and a glovebox lid off eBay. Looking forward too it.

Hi paul.

I have just purchased Another aygo I clocked 40000 miles in 2 years in my aygo black, no problems with water ingress and most of that was motorway driving. I had to have a new clutch CLUTCH JUDDER but it was under warranty My local dealer did me a good deal with a aygo platinium part leather seats steering wheel alloys. Its worth having a look at one of those if they have any left in stock. my dealer gave me a good deal

I was tempted by the New Fiesta but I found it too expensive - buying and running.

WhatCar? magazine of 22 April 2009 said....

''We've always considered the Aygo one of the best budget buys around,

but now that you can have one for peanuts it makes more sense than ever.

The appeal is simple – the reassurance of Toyota reliability, coupled with

incredibly low ownership costs and a funky design.'' :yahoo:

I nearly accidently bought another Aygo the other day and the Salesman told me the Blues were hard to get hold of because of everyone taking advantage of the scrappage scheme!!

Good Stuff

I have had two Aygos and not one leak!! You wont regret it :D

I originally had the intention of getting the cheap base option. But when i thought about it may as well get the electric windows and a snazzy blue paintjob. 3 weeks BABY!

The lowest price I saw (after the 01 MAY 09 increase) for a brand new Aygo Blue 3-door manual under the scrappage scheme was 6020 pounds stirling but it involved a 220 miles round trip to the dealer from where I live. (metallic paint and air conditioning included)

It's 6200 locally.

I've had my aygo blue for over a year now, its sat thru torrential rain and its never leaked.

My 2004 Mini Cooper leaked at the driver side window if it rained really hard so I wouldn't worry about having to spend more on a more expensive car to ensure its leak proof!

Ordered mine today - Black with A/C. Delivery mid-July.

Thought long and hard about a Blue (5 weeks delivery) but in truth I'd simply never use the bluetooth and I really like the luxury feel of the leather in the Black. Can't wait
