Bit harsh!! Toyota have a superb plant up in Burnaston, Honda in Swindon, Nissan in Sunderland... The Japanese Manufacturers build a load of cars in the UK and truely support the UK Motor Industry!

True - but what car is UK built within a 10 grand budget ? :driving:

Before using the 2k Pixo, Micra & Note from Nissan, not sure of others but sure there will be some!

Using the 2k allowance Pixo will start at £5k on the road!

I don't understand how you think it is not powerful enough.

Are you sure you are not driving around with a boot full of water?

I find the power of my Aygo just fine.

Ordered my Aygo Black a couple of weeks ago and arranged to collect it tomorrow.I booked a day off work but the sales guy phoned today to say Toyota have instructed them NOT to release any cars under the scrappage scheme.

What an absolute shambles,I feel like calling the whole thing off.I was really looking forward to getting a new Aygo.

Sorry to hear that. :crybaby:

It appears that the UK problem concerns Value Added Tax, currently at 15 percent....

Is VAT applied BEFORE the 2000 pounds stirling reduction or AFTER.

The difference in VAT payable to the Government is obviously 300 pounds stirling per vehicle. :(

Ah,now I know why Toyota lobbed £260 on the base price of £7040 last week. And still they quibble-they are letting the customers down and these are the new customers they need at the moment.

It's horrible just waiting in by the phone,I'd go out in me 10 year old banger but it's got just enough juice to get me to the dealer and I don't want to put any more in. Me,tight ?

I go into the incline at 70-80mph in 5th. As I start to slow I sometimes drop a gear but this just ceases the deceleration, and thats with my foot to the floor. Although I try not to do that in case I'm damaging the engine - I don't have a rev gauge though.

3rd gear goes up to 90mph or so. Why not just drop down to third and get the acceleration back?

I race the Aygo and with me driving it beats Yaris T Sports, Supras, Celicas and MR2s. So can we just drop the not-enough-power thing :D

Paul.

Look guys how can I drop this.....you don't seem to understand and I can't drop it until you do.

First of Paul - 90 in 3rd? Surely that's hugely damaging to the engine? There's a reason for the other 2gears. An important point here would be to remind you that this is up an incline (sorry to have to mention it AGAIN but some of you seem to neglect that very important point) and with the aygo's little torque this is a power issue.

Second - Why the blantant ignorance? Or just plain defensiveness? The car HAS power issues. Can someone on this forum agree with me?

Third - Without trying to be offensive Paul but if you have a stock aygo and your racing AND beating Tsports, supras etc, your talking out of your *****! The least powerful car on that list - the yaris - has 110BHP versus the aygo 67....I'll go on....0-60 in under 9secs while the aygo is 14.2. Let's keep it factual! (the only way you'd beat them if you were the best driver in the world!)

Lastly - I really can't understand why I'm the only one to think the aygo has power issues...the worst of it is that 3 people on this forum have blantantly disregarded my opinion and it makes me look like some troll trying to get all your backs up! I'm just trying to be honest!

So see you in about 2012 then. :argue:

collected me Aygo Black 5door a/c today on the scrappage scheme, so am a little puzzled with your dealer. Saved £2245 off list with a full size spare.

I test drove last years car and the most noticable thing is how much quieter it is in the car.

This is the first new car I've had, so I'm a happy bunny today :D

No swithching to 3rd gear is not dangerous. With smaller engines it is needed to get the revs up. On the multimode it will drop the gear when needed and

my dealer made sure to mention that Aygo has "long gears" so not to be surprised when gear is dropped from 5th to 3rd or 4th to 2nd on city roads.

I think if you drop the gear you will see there is plenty of power on the engine to get the incline up in speed. Rev counter would show it is not dangerous for the engine, too bad it is not standard in UK specs Aygo.

And in fact there are threds on Paul's "racing Aygo" beating much more powerful cars, it is not lies at all. It has been interesting to see how the little Aygo has been doing, here is some recent post http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97309

So I would say there is no power issues when driven correctly. I am very happy with its performance and enjoy driving on motorways also!

Good luck for all who are getting the new Aygo

I searched the net to see if I was the only one that thought the aygo has power issues,

"Driving home late the other night on the M1 there are, as you may be aware a number of downhill sections followed by uphill sections. I tried a little experiment. Try bombing it downhill (with nothing around of course) in 5th and see how slow it ends up with your foot flat to the floor on the hill. Then try it in 4th and notice the difference.

It doesnt have the power to cope with the gearing of 5th on hills it dropped by nearly 30mph!

Having said that it is far more capable in 4th just don't expect to accelerate!!

This is the only time i miss having a big engine, when you cant maintain the speed you want too without revving the nuts off it!!" - Some Pug 107 owner on this forum back in 2007.

"The engine's eager to rev and noisy throughout the rev range so it's all too easy to find yourself in too low a gear. Performance isn't great, though it's better than I would have expected from the miniscule engine! Two-up it starts to struggle on hills, and with four-up you'd better not have any deadlines to meet!" - http://www.reviewcentre.com/review253569.html

So there ya go I guess I'm not going mad! Perhaps you guys just need to get a reality check! And this is all I have to say on this matter!

You may not of been spun a yarn exactly as my dealer had a stock pile of Aygo's in anticipation of the scrappage scheme and mine was registered and may of left them with a pre reg car if I was upset. My van only had 1 months tax left so thats £185 saved or first car payment sorted. I did drain 15 litres of diesel which is now in my other car and I stripped me van of anything ebayable. My van needed work for its MOT tommorrow so I saved there as well. The timing of the scrappage scheme couldn't of been better for me.

Hope all goes well for you Thursday.

5th is for economy; it's an overdrive.

5th is NOT for acceleration or power.

Topspeed is achieved in 4th for the same reason.

I had an '87 Escort 1.6D that struggled

too when I tried to drive uphill in 5th...

AygoYugo - what's your beef? Are you tetchy because you've just invested a small fortune into a car you've now found out has power issues? I guess I'd be a door knob about it too!

I may be new to this forum, but your and AygoYugo's argument would best be moved to another thread of your own as this is off topic. Perhaps a thread called Aygo power issues or something similar. this thread was about the scrappage scheme. I frankly dont give a damn about you 2's argument I read this thread for scrappage scheme discussions .

At present it appears to be who can get the last word in your argument and has no relevance to the topic heading.

If I wanted ultimate power I wouldn't be looking at a 998cc engine - any div knows that.

If I had a water leak I wouldn't cry all over a scrappage forum about it.

If I wanted a good looking car with extremely low running costs that is subsidised by

the Government I would buy an Aygo Blue.

hey look it was not me that initiated the immature/childish comments just because I had a valid point!

I'm new to this forum too, all my posts are on this topic and so I now look like a trouble maker - reread the previous comments to see who is the real trouble maker!

AygoYugo - your a knob jockey through and through. How about next time someone comments on a valid issue, how about you shut your sarcy mouth and stay out unless you want a logical debate!

One final point for 'I'm as thick as *****e-Yugo' - Any div knows that 996cc engine in the yaris can handle inclines without slowing down under the speed limit, its pretty much just as economical as the aygo. Any div knows that slowing down up a hill to 60 while revving the balls off the engine is called underpowered!!!! Perhaps you need to go back to school to learn the basics of physics!

Ullevi - I really do not understand how you think it is powerful enough? I am actually perplexed by the notion you think this car has not got power issues?? Do you weigh like 10kgs or something?

And no I didn't realise it had trouble with inclines at 70mph......since during the test drive I was on flat roads with 60mph limits....not a motorway??? You maybe wondering about this motorway incline i'm so fond of mentioning...well I drive from my student accommo to home every weekend and that involves taking the M2 from Belfast. There's a 1/2 mile stretch of road that has a modest incline and my car struggles to do 60mph - FACT!

Just to break that down, 60mph is 14.3% slower than the speed limit allowed (70mph). Hence in this circumstance (which I come across once a week) my aygo is not powerful enough - understand now?

Irishaygo,I'm sorry you're getting so much grief on the forum, but if you look at the cars I have you'll see I'm used to driving reasonably rapid cars on a day to day basis(0-60mph in low 7 secs),so believe me I would be able to tell if the Aygo was underpowered.

For normal driving,I assure you,the Aygo is a match for normal flow of traffic and if driven well can make sharp progress.

OK,I'll give you that you're never gonna win the traffic lights grand prix, but the Aygo has never been marketed as having shed loads of power. It is a light city car with a light efficient engine which allows you to drive comfortably in today's congested road system.

If you struggle up a particular hill, then change down a gear or two and accept that in a tiny city car you may slow down a bit up that particular incline.Don't like to slow down up that incline? Then may I humbly suggest trading in your Aygo and choose something with more power-I really don't know what you expect from a normally aspirated engine that is under a litre in capacity.Fancy pioneering a turbo or supercharging the aygo if you don't sell ;)

I'm sorry you're not enjoying your Aygo experience and that your Aygo slowing down on a particular stretch of road is bugging you.I am lucky that I do not have to negiotiate such steep inclines near to me and hence, have not experienced the same problem as you.

Cheers.

guys guys guys.....I just give up!

When you buy a car you expect it to cope with the standard road conditions you will face day to day. I guess I'm sorry that I expected a normally aspirated engine just under 1000cc to manage a slight hill considering the Yaris can manage it with a 996cc engine. I guess that's just expecting too much from the aygo.

I'll make sure to note that losing considerable power up a slight incline is infact to be expected when you buy a new car these days. And if it does happen, will instead of noting it as a problem, drop her 2 and over rev the engine. Of course over revving such a small engine will cause it to break down in under 60k miles but sure I guess I would be naive to assume that's low mileage.

When I seen this forum I thought it would be a cool place to discuss aygo issues and to swap info on repairs/maintanence. But instead I have found the majority on this thread seem to have their heads in the clouds. A little bit of intelligence and openmindedness go along way! The aygo is far from perfect - grow a set and realise that!

What a waste of my time.....

No, it doesn't do the engine any harm to keep it at ~4000 rpm. The VVT-i starts about there.

The A/T, at 50 km/h slow driving keeps the fifth gear. If you punch it, the A/T changes from fifth to second, and keeps the second gear up to 95 km/h, then changes to third up to ~ 140 km/h. OK? That means you can keep 4th gear at 120km/h easy, and get up an incline. If not, change to third.

Second - Why the blantant ignorance? Or just plain defensiveness? The car HAS power issues. Can someone on this forum agree with me?

Not me anyway... I like it better than a 1.4 petrol auris(97 hp, 0-60 13s) or a 1.4 d4d corolla(90 hp, 0-60 12s)

Anyway, what did you expect from a 68 hp 0-60 in 14.2 seconds car when you bought it?

Just drop down a gear or two... the 4th is for slow overtaking and the fifth is only for fuel economy.
