Whirring Wing Mirror - Help!

Hi - some idiot in a bmw drove so close to me he hit the wing mirror on the drivers side............. all seemed ok (apart from the blue air around my head!) but now whenever I start the car or even just turn the key in the ignition the wing mirror clicks and whirs as if it were constantly trying to open (it doesn't happen if the mirrors are folded in). It winds down and stops after a few minutes but will start again if i turn the car off n on again

Has anyone any idea what's wrong and how easy it would be to fix myself??? Is it possible to just disconnect the electric mirror until i can get it fixed??
