Hi NEWBIE hear. I own 2002 d-4d and need to change the gear/diff/trans oils. Is it ok to use Castrol syntrax 75w90 for all of these? I have seen the pics posted of how to do the job. but got confused when hypoid oil was mentioned but in another post someone said it was ok to use Castrol syntrax 75w90.

Castrol Syntrax Universal 75W/90 is very flexible and I use it for the gear box, trans-axle and rear diff on my 2004 4.2 XT4

Its used by my local dealer and I looked up the specs and it seemed to meet all the Toyota requirements.

Castrol say:

It is suitable for all units requiring gear oil of SAE 75W, 80W or 90, including multigrade 75W/90 80W/90 and 85W90

It can replace the following Castrol gear oils

Castrol EP 80 Castrol EPX 80W/90

Castrol EP 90

Performance

API GL3, 4, 5

The only negatives are its cost per litre, its cheaper to buy alternative gear oils that meet the individual specs

You must use EP oil for the transfer box and rear diff.
