Self Locking D4d

My 2004 D4D T-spirit has suddenly developed a fault.

Around 2 mins after unlocking, it will self lock. This has led to my 2 daughters being locked in the parked car - thankfully my wife had taken the keys out to open the house.

It also locked with my mum and children inside in a car park - leading to the alarm going off and my mum getting a lot of funny looks!

Is this a known fault? What should I be looking at?

cheers

if the driver side door is not opened then the car will auto lock after 2 mins

I was aware of the autolog if you did not open the door. But I was under the impression that opening the door cancelled it.

It has now doing it randomly.

go try it now

lock car, and unlock

open driver side door

leave open for a few secs and then close it, and see if the car autolocks.

Yes, here is the situation. ..

wife drives into car park, gets out and goes into shop, leaving my mum and 2 kids in the unlocked car. Couple of minutes later car locks and alarm starts going off.

So she had opened the door.

Also locked the other day with the drivers door standing open.

Are you parking in the same area when the car locks ? It may be strong RF in the area that is over riding the lock frequency and causing the car to lock. Although usually, strong RF will prevent locking and unlocking when using the fob.
