  1. the difference in sound will be night and day even from a kenwood £70 head unit compared to standard factory fit (not that kenwood equipment is bad). the ability to adjust bass/treble properly and more importantly having a sub level control which is independant from the bass setting for the speakers also having high pass/low pass filters will all improve the sound. in addition ability to play cd-r/w flawlessly as well as ipod/usb/mp3 cds and sd cards etc etc i agree losing the mpg computer is a bit unwanted but having said that i never believed it anyway, was always giving me wild spurious figures so it wasn't much of a loss for me lol. if you're on a budget then leave the factory head unit. however even if you can stretch to something like this pioneer unit then i would fully advocate doing so. You're more likely to notice difference in sound changing the head unit than you are using £20/m cabling rather than stuff which costs £10/m. just my opinion but that is based in experience with my own car sounds... front speakers - 6.5" components rear speakers - 5.25" coaxial, however i've managed to squeeze 6.5" coaxials in my removing the baffle (will depend on the basket design of the speaker though) in fact my advise would be - install all your equipment as it is with factory head unit, then if you feel the need to change the head unit you have a brilliant example in the one i linked to which has everything you'll need at a great price. by the way my car is 5 door hatch.

  4. for the extra expense of 70/80 quid on a cd player and 10quid for the fascia kit the difference in sound i wouldn't bother fitting any sort of upgraded audio to existing corolla head unit.
