  1. I found it lurking around in the compound at the back of the dealership. Not a lot done with it as far as I can see. I took this photo to use for my profile pic

  2. Looking through the accessories brochure I saw the optional "glove box" which snaps onto the studs and presumably is made so one can carry it round if removed from the car. I noted the price of £130!!! Once I had recovered I spoke to the parts dept who said they could supply one for £80 with customer discount. Has anyone bought one of these, are they more form than function and are they actually worth £80?

  3. I've introduced myself on the main page but thought I'd just say hello on here. I've just ordered a new IQ2 in chilli red. I will be picking it up later this week as it's one the dealer has on stock. I've swapped from a diesel Smart fortwo. I am sure I will have a few questions along the way but really looking forward to getting the car.

  4. Its a manual. Im not wholly convinced by these "automatic" boxes in small cars. The smart had the softouch system which does the job but sometimes progress is more due to serendipity ! My wife has a citroen with a sensodrive and progress in that is very similar although a little smoother. I love autos in larger engined cars but Ive come to the conclusion that small cars will never really suit any form of non manual system.

  5. Thanks folks. I know what you mean Tarquin about it being a temptation to opportunists. The dealer is getting it in for me so I will have a look when it arrives

  6. I have the glove box thing and it is useful for bits and bobs. My most useful purchase was a Draper boot tidy - I have the back seats down all the time and this tidy is neat and holds loads.

  8. Same here......Sausage fingers. Put on a pair of tight washing-up gloves......Those yellow ones. Use NO lubricant and you can get a much better grip. Can't remember now but might be one finger of each hand, one up, one down. It would be really easy but the position of the other 2 cables right on top of the one you want make it a right pain. You can't even see the thing with a torch properly. Good Luck. Ian.

  9. Sounds like a loose manifold or exhaust, blown cat (any deep floods in your area of late?) or loose heat shield. I'd be getting my local friendly garage to double check all is tightened up as is should. It might also be prudent to run some of the higher quality fuel system cleaners through too along with some posh 98 octane petrol. Worth a pop. Talking of the blown cat has got me thinking. A hot catalyst and deep, cold flood water can knacker your cat, it's unlikely to be a warranty item and they cost a fortune to replace and will affect performance.

  10. I have a different view. I think its because where i lived There was a lot of breaking into cars even if it only had 20p on the seat My thoughts are that passenger bag could hold a laptop or ipad and somebody looking through the side window might want to take their chances. I limo'd the back glass so nothing is on view. Not even a storage between the seats. Just my view based entirely on where i was brought up. I wouldnt even store CD's but have all my music on usb or phone. David

  11. Simple check if its wheels ( related) or drive is to get up to 70 and push the clutch in then play around with the engine revs and play with the gears. See what you come up with David

  12. I freely admit I may not know everything there is to know about modern engines. However isn't it the ECU's job to deliver a set fuel air ratio to the engine? To make allowances for the quality of the fuel, the air pressure (altitude) the oxygen content (using the lambda probe) etc? So in short within limits, whatever fuel you use your actually delivering to the engine exacly the same fuel /air mixture. If so wouldn't using new 'Super Extra Fueltron' be exactly the same as using 'El Boggo Supermarket Value Basic' petrol? So any perceived advantage would be entirely due to variations in driver input, accellerating less harshly etc maybe well probably even sub conciously?. As a former scientific type (well I have A levels in Physics/ Maths / Chemistry etc) but last used them 35+ years ago. I suggest only a blind study where the user doesn't know what fuel is in his Hybrid can settle this definitively. Now purely in the interests of Science if someone wants to refuel my car every time it needs it for six months and not tell me whats in it whilst I go about my daily business. Then I'm public spirited enough to let them pay for it as well. Any offers?

  13. There is a question over whether the C1/108 will use continue to use the 1.0 litre Toyota engine that is used in the current Aygo/IQ/Yaris/C1/107. PSA currently have their own 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre 3 cylinder engines which are used in the 208. The PSA 1.2 will presumably be used in the new C1/108. The new Aygo will only be available with a developed version of the Toyota 1.0 litre engine, but it is presently unclear whose 1.0 litre engine the C1/108 will have.

  14. My apologies I didn't clarify that did I. Its an IQ1 (2009) 1.0 Manual. It has around 32K miles on it and I have to say that when we bought it, at around 10K miles, I didn't really notice the vibration, though I don't drive it as much as my partner. Driving it now however drives me insane when it hits the 2000rpm in first or second gear and for that reason I back off the throttle at that point to smooth out the car and then press ahead again.

  15. The thing about wheel vibration however is that its speed dependent. A lot of cars show it around 50 or 70mph if incorrectly balanced. This issue is at 2000rpm engine revs and does not depend on the speed of the car. Its most notable (i.e. the car shakes and rattles a lot, and its a high speed vibration perhaps 50hz est, not a wobble as you'd generally see at slow speeds with wheel imbalance) in 1st and 2nd.

  16. I don't think this is the wheels. I've had the tyres replaced and balanced recently. The whole car vibrates with no notable wobble through the steering as you'd expect from wheel imbalance (at least on the front) Its definitely an engine/driveline imbalance around 2000 rpm. It doesn't feel like a misfire, simply that the engine is out of balance, and the cure for that might be expensive... edit... though like others have said, its only under load. Revving the engine at a standstill is fine, so perhaps not frontline engine components but something more driveline (after the flywheel) related. Clutch imbalance, driveshafts perhaps. Does the iq engine have a DMF?

  17. I'd like to kick this thread back into life as our IQ does this horrid 2000 rpm vibration. Its second hand so I've no idea if the EGR issue affected it (59 plate) or was resolved but Toyota confirm no recalls for it. I tend to let off the loud pedal around 2000 rpm in order to quiet the car as everything shakes and an engine/heat plate somewhere starts rattling outside like a tin can. I've not taken it to Toyota yet as its out of warranty but I'd appreciate knowing if anyone that has/had this issue has managed to resolve it and how?

  18. I have the glove box, one of the first things I bought for the car. Very useful but it isn't removable. It's fitted onto the studs but designed to stay there really. I use it to keep essentials in like Phone charger cable, CD's, Insurance certificate, Etc. Nicely made and works a treat. I found mine on ebay for about £40 in as new condition. Here is a picture of it fitted to my car. Craig.

  24. If you're going to fix it, then you're also best replacing the piston rings & maybe the pistons to the new designed ones, so that it doesn't continue/start to burn oil again.

  25. Thanks folks. Hopefully I made the right choice. I wavered at the idea when I heard they were ceasing production but when I looked round at alternatives there is nothing really out there.

  26. hi m8,I have the same prob with mine (2010 1.0 iq) a really bad vibration at around 2000 RPM & its driving me mad, mine seems to be coming from the N/S floor area around the engine ,cars going in today (15/11/13) to the dealers under warranty for the third time for no power/hesitant pulling away from junction issues :( , so hopefully might get this sorted as well …(but I won’t hold my breath) will let you know how I get on Cheers toby.
