  1. Hey Grumpie Cabbie, This is great news as without reading this post I was thinking my car was around the £10k mark. Time to open a beer :)

  2. If this is a 4 year old car & you have no history of it having an aircon service I suggest that after checking/changing the pollen filter & your aircon bomb you have the aircon serviced.

  3. If when you drive the vehicle and it jerks and cuts off its the fuel injector, if it stalls when the cars at idle its provbally not and its the ignition coil. Funny enough my old car vw had faulty ignition coil and then the mechanic put another ignition coil in the problem persited. The mechanic kept it over night and cleaned the throttle body and changed sparks but still nothing happen. Then the mechanics switched each igntion coil around, so same ignition coil but put into other cylinders and found that the ignition coil they had previously 'replaced' was faulty too.

  5. In order to keep things "clean" I only use Shell V Power and also put in BG44 fuel system cleaner every 6 months.

  6. The early t3's had a cheaper steering motor (I'm on my THIRD!), though I understand it was uprated later. I like the t3. The 15 inch wheels absorb the bumps and potholes of UK roads much more happily that the low profile tyres on the t4 and T-spirit. The tyres also cost much less at about £60 each for a quality branded lrr tyre. That was important when doing the taxi job as you'd go through front tyres every 16k miles because of all the turning, 3 point turns, roundabouts you do 10 hours a day. You can always tell a new starter in the taxi world; the one with shiny low profile wheels. You soon get bored of paying £300 for a set of front tyres every 6 months, let alone all the dented and cracked alloys due to our quality roads. Maybe the op could get his Prius fix for £4,000 less if he chose a gen3 t3//t4 with a few more miles. Each to their own though.

  7. http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ is euro car parts sister company it tends to be cheaper. I still find my local motor factors cheaper (andrew pages) I tend to stick with blueprint or mintex, although last time round for the rears I got bosch as they were on offer. (I was surprised to get new springs clips with the pads, so that was a bonus).

  8. Hi, As said, the oil burning problem was overcome long ago, so why on earth do you think a 2007 car has that problem .. Even if it had that type of oil burning problem, Toyota long ago said they would no longer do any such remedial work under warrany as it could just be old age /excessive wear. If its being sold with a 12 month warranty, ( get details in writing) expect they will have done a mot on it so doubltless the engine will be running within specifications. ( a neighbour took her 9 month old Dacia to A. Clarke and they said it was an electrical fault and not covered by the warranty ! - see went ballistic) Try and see the service book and which totota dealer did these and ring them and quote the reg number and say you are looking to buy it and wondered if it has had all /any recalls etc done. My local mot tester said I want to hang on to mine as so many newers car, not just toyota are so full of electronics they cause so many problems /failures the old ones are so much more reliable. If you are not confident about your thoughts on the car, get an AA / RAC type of inspection before buying. Also have an HPI check done, though would expect a main del;aer would have done that and be able to show you thier report. No mention of the price, don't let the low miles and condition blind you in to paying over the odds, its a 7 year old car a the end of the day and the price should refelect that. Finally, assume you have taken it for a decent test drive, on a stretch where you can get up to 70. Seem some folk will buy a car just from sitting in it in the car park, got a mate who buys £20/30k cars without ever driving one - couldn't believe it !

  9. The latest fix point for excessive ZZ engine oil consumption was September 2005, so unless your Corolla was a very late registration then a 2007 car will be post counter measure

  12. The system in my Prius used to smell bad for a while if I hadn't used it for a few months - always cleared itself up after a few days, was probably just a bit of dampness. Nowadays, with the Verso, I just leave it on all the time with the system set to auto. The effect on fuel consumption is negligible and it does a better job of keeping the screen clear if left to its own devices. Something to be aware of is that not using your aircon for extended periods can result in stiff seals which then need to be replaced.

  13. Hmmm, maybe that explains their strategy toward their loyal customers - they actually want to put some of them off buying more of their products!!! For example: In mid 2003 (about six months before the Gen 2 Prius was launched), Toyota invited about 20 members of the Yahoo Prius-UK group to a preview of the new model in Wimbledon. I was mightily impressed that they were so interested in our opinions. Many of the group very forcefully said that we would be really unhappy with a space saver spare tyre (the left hand drive, pre production model they showed us had no spare at all, just a can of gunge). A couple of people virtually dismantled the boot to prove they could make space for a 'proper' spare. We also mentioned heated mirrors, and when one of the Toyota people mentioned they were considering fitting a reversing camera (just a camera - no self park at that time, although the Japanese model had park assist from day one) and many of us said we would kill for such a feature. I also pointed out that adaptive cruise control had been available on the luxury end of the market about 15 years and it was high time it permeated toward cars like the 2nd generation Prius - it didn't. So imagine our disappointment when the car was launched with: a toy spare wheel (but at least it had one!)no heated mirrors (by this time even humble Fiesta were getting electric folding mirrors as well!)no reversing camera, but an annoying beep instead! They got 5 brownie points for asking our opinion, then lost 30 for ignoring everything we told them!
