  1. Under most driving conditions brake disc/rotor warping is a myth, the vibration you feel back through the pedal in most cases is caused by the pad friction material being transfered onto the rotor. The only way to get over this is to fit matching discs and pads, you may be able to get these from a motor factors but the best way is to fit genuine and in this case Toyota parts. In most cases fitting parts from other suppliers will or may be ok, we have all done it and got away with it but fitting two sets can be more expensive than fitting one genuine set. Also when replacing the new discs make sure the face of the hub is clean where it mates up with the back of the disc along with where the back of the road wheel bolts on to the front face of the disc and then torque the wheel bolts up correctly. Pete.

  3. I carried out a ritual burning of my old tax disk...they still take your money, of course, but I now have a nice clear windscreen. It's quite surprising how many people still show their tax disk though.

  4. I don't know why they don't keep the existing advantage of having a legally defined test across all models and manufacturers, but lose the disadvantage of customers thinking they are getting what they are not by the simple expedient of following the lead of the white goods industry. Just band the damn things - you buy a car that is in band A - G, and the figures in the test don't get shown, or at best are tucked away. Nobody wanders around Comet looking at dishwashers and comparing the annual electricity cost, counting and measuring obsessively and then complaining at the end of the year it cost more they thought it was going to. They just look for an A or B rated machine, and only buy a D or E rated one if it has some other advantage such as size or price. In fact, they should get rid of the consumption meter in the car entirely and have something that says "you're doing ok/well/fantastically, have a good day". Well, that's got that out of my system. Ok, I'll come back to reality now.

  6. Its a common problem with the AD series engines 1ad ftv, 2ad ftv and 2ad fhv (these being 1ad(2.0) 2ad(2.2) . Build date Avensis april 2005 to feb 2009 rav4 july 2005 to december 2008 auris september 2006 to september 2009 and verso april 2005 to november 2008. I've had a new engine 7k ago due to erratic tick over turned out the engine was consuming oil and causing the egr valve to clog up, also the car was in continual regeneration mode. The under cover warranty is for cars aged to 7 years old or 111846 miles with service history. The conditions covered 1. oil consumption worse than 0.5 litres per 621 miles. 2. over heating and head gasket failure due to carbon deposits on the pistons. Toyota also for other out of warranty claims regarding the ad series engines would accept the following as being linked to a oil consumtion issue due to carbon clogging, egr valve, dpnr, 5th injector, egr cooler, blocked manifold. I managed to come across this information from a toyota warranty bulletin. Hope this helps all owners who's car is fitted with a AD series engine.
