  2. Hi all I bought some Redex fuel system cleaner and put it in the tank over 4 full tanks of fuel. I have to say the results are outstanding!!! The car feels like it has twice the power and at idle is very smooth no obvious 3cyl vibration. Cant believe the difference David

  3. I've posted this as a new topic as I put a query on for just handbrake & ABS lamps, but I saw the TRC light was on as well on my 56 registered Avensis 2.2 T180 D4D. Now fixed - I found that it was a 7.5 amp fuse in the long fusebox at the nearside of the bonnet. See pictures below - I've highlighted the fuse concerned. I'm well chuffed - I got an assorted pack of the fuses for £1.59 - a very reasonable price for the repair! I hope that this may help.

  4. Over Christmas, I was away visiting family and give the motorway miles involved I took my Lexus. Then, of course, the snow arrived (although it wasn't really forecast before I set out). My dad's house is at the bottom on a long gradient which has defeated the Lexus in previous winters, but fortunately, I escaped OK yesterday afternoon and had no problems (other than the volume of traffic on the M1!) getting back to my place, although I was driving very gingerly for the last mile or so as the roads were pretty treacherous. Powerful RWD cars are not good in those conditions. Today, the Lexus is safe in its garage and I took the IQ to Asda, through the hard packed snow/ice combination which is covering the side roads here in Derbyshire. With winter tyres on (Toyo Snowprox), it's got oodles of grip and even managed a hill start with almost zero wheelspin when I deliberately picked somewhere stupid to stop "just to see what happens". I keep being more and more impressed by this little car and I reckon the winter tyres on steel wheels will prove to be a great investment.

  5. Very logical Kevin, and by the same logic a slightly second hand A3 would be even more financially efficient.. And JHRC could also have bought a T3 Prius, at a great saving over a PiP..............and now, could even keep the PiP Independant of the ££££s, I too can identify the desire for a new and exciting bit of kit, and it is just a great pity that it is not a Gen 4 Prius that is attracting JH, as my experiences of the Audi franchise were quite appalling

  7. The 3S-FE 2 litre engine was in the early Avensis from 1998 - 2000, then replaced by the VVTi engines after. The 3S-FE is not the same as the 3S-FSE since the latter has direct injection. The 1AZ-FSE which replaced the 3S-FE has similar specs the 3S-FSE - both are direct injection, same bore/stroke dimensions and VVTi. Even the power and torque are close. The 3S-FSE has a cambelt. The 3S-FE is a plain twin cam, belt driven ordinary fuel injected engine with only 126bhp (20+ bhp less). From my research, it looks like the engine is a cross over between the 3S-FE and the 1AZ-FSE. With the information above I guess you will have to find another Corona or similar.

  8. thanks Gazza, you're right, I think a little sentimentality is creeping in. Trouble is, do I pay to maintain or do I pay to borrow for a replacement car? Not sure I can afford another similar model with all the extras I've been spoilt with unless I look for an older second hand car, which risks me being faced with an unexpected repair bill. It's a gamble I suppose. At 240000 miles I'm pretty sure other things are worn out and i'm going to be paying for more and more.
