  1. German cars look like a quality product, look inside an Audi A3 and it looks like the interior of a car costing twice as much, that's what sells them. German cars look good, but in my experience they are below average for reliability, and the dealers are poor, Toyota cars look cheaper, but are more reliable, and the dealers are far better!

  2. Today I met the most obnoxious Corolla owner at a petrol station - Asda Charlton. I won't describe him by his race or nationality as this does not matter, but he is aged about late sixties. This man went to check the oil level of his car after just stopping. He had checked the dipstick and was repeating the process, so I called to him to say the engine is too hot to get a proper reading. Well he went into one saying how long he had been driving and also he used to be a mechanic. He said he don't need anyone telling him what to do. I was only trying to offer friendly advice and told him so. I was polite cannot understand his hostility or problems. Ne needs to chill because we have enough problem in this world without his attitude. I could have been rude back to him and said 'I hope the vvti seizes because you read the oil level wrong', but I didn't. Also I could add, if that is the way you work in the garage, how many cars have you wreck!? I hope this man is not be a member this owners club, but if he is and reads this or reads this as a guest, you will remember the polite Avensis man you had a go at for no reason. Have some humility. Rant over, now to try and help nice people

  3. Know what you mean - both the Yaris I bought in 2000 and the one in 2011 were made in France and both had problems. At least the 2011 got sorted out professionally by my Norwich dealer, whereas the 2000 one was full of faults when delivered and had loads more over the two years I had it. The North London dealer I used then took at least 3 visits to fix almost every problem, and was well up to the standard of a 1970s BL dealer! If I hadn't been so taken with the concept of the Prius, I would have never touched Toyota again after my first experience.

  8. i'm in my 50's ... http://uk.smart.com/uk/en/index/dealer-locator.html The Smart Ed coupe (which I think is the old model) is £15400 incl. grant (no, I couldn't find the price on the Smart website).

  9. I think that's it. Japanese manufactuers or perhaps that should be cars manufactured in Japan spend their money on quality running parts and sh*te interiors. The Germans spend more on the interiors and less on the running gear. Result = Japanese cars run for ever and are very reliable but inside they rattle like an old bus. And German cars have lovely interiors but spend half their life up a ramp at the uninterested and unsympathetic (and expensive) dealers.

  10. Think these brochures I found will help. Seems all models 2005 on had air con, but it depended on the year they were made as to which models had climate control. Always thought mine was standard air con, though the May 2006 brouchure implies my 1.6 5 door has climate control, registered sept 2006 and think it was built May 2006 or after judging by some of the parts date tags, so it may be ? better check ! 11. Yet people still buy'em. What is is about these German makes - VW, BMW, Audi, Porsche, MB et al - that so endears them to the British public? Germany must possess the most effective propaganda machine ever. Pick up any car mag. these days and it's full of b....y German cars, the journalists seem to search out every last detail spec change to get all excited over and to fill their pages with. (That'll be the journalists that don't have to dig in their own pockets to buy and run their cars of course!) I'll take a Toyota over a like-for-like German car any day of the week. Rant over.

  12. Hmmm. You're both right :( Hate VW group products so must blank them from my mind. Not sure about the triple clutch set up they're introducing on the new GTE plug in Golf. If the dual clutch gearbox is a bag of spanners waiting to explode, God knows what will happen with three! http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/about-us/news/583 "The Golf GTE uses a six-speed DSG gearbox with a triple-clutch system specially developed for hybrid vehicles."

  14. I clean all plastics inside the car with "Pronto antistatico", the blue one; it cleans well, rejects dust for a period of time, smells nice, etc.

  16. Craig I had read that the Peugeot or Citroen version of the Aygo would be offered a bigger engine. (I also think they look better than the Aygo - not in to the X factor front)

  17. Not sure about that, looks way too much like a Mini and not enough like an iQ. I popped to the dealer the other night and had a wander around the cars outside as I always do and had a look at the new Aygo. I quite liked it, looked stylish and fairly well built but I was a bit disappointed to find out they only do 1.0 engines. I thought that would be the ideal car for the iQ3, 1.33 engine or offer a sporty model with a 1.6 engine in it? Craig.
