  1. I thought I would start this topic now that the Auris is working for a living. My Auris has now completed it's transformation from a normal car to a taxi, It's days of 5000 miles a year are over. The car is a 2014 plate and was acquired a couple of weeks ago with 5000 odd miles on the clock, I have added 1000 since then, not all taxi work but test driving and stuff. It started it's new job yesterday and has behaved admirably achieving, according to the trip, 62 mpg, mostly town work. I like the vehicle very much, it's easy, it's comfortable for both the passengers and me, the boots big, the stereo isn't to bad, ( I am an audiophile) the sat nav? not quite sure but that's in another thread, It's a relaxing drive once you get the hang of it, I get the feeling many people may not get the hang of it hence the abundance of used hybrids with low mileage for sale. My intention with this topic is to keep hybrid owners and in particular Auris owners up to date with any issues that may arise during this ones( hopefully) long hard working life, a little like Grumpy did with his Prius. I would hope that the information conveyed along this journey may help others to buy/or not such a vehicle, and most importantly the reliability of the Auris long term as a work horse.

  2. Hi, Thanks for the advice. I had my rear brake shoes/pads/discs/bleed completed today. I printed off what you said and left it for the mechanic to look at, and it is now cured, so thanks! I am also really happy that the guy in Halfords changed my side lights and dipped lights (both sides) in less than 30 minutes. Considering how difficult people seem to say they are to change, I feel like I more than got my £14 worth for the fitting charge. All that is left to do now is get two front tyres and a full cat back exhaust from Pipercross. Thanks, tarantula_123

  4. sorry for late answer, actually this is my brother`s project, I`m just shared his video because I think it`s looks very nice and useful functions, like delete errors etc. I believe he will answer to all Your questions if You will ask send message to his Youtube channel or post Your question under video. About apps, I cant remember but I think he say that he find Toyota app in app store and pay for it few GBP. And about updates, sometimes he use smartphone tethering, sometimes he connect home wi-fi network. Sorry for my terrible language skills! I ask brother to do another video, tutorial, how he do it step by step... he promise to do it if people will be interested and will ask him about it. Edited: I speak with brother about mapping software, he say it`s iGo Navigation.

  5. The rear plates on a 4.2 Rav are a bit more involved than just pressed steel plates they are made up of multiple parts and do form the support/mounting for the rear parking brake shoes, still bloody expensive though.

  6. Just take them off when they rust through, as they will! This has been the general opinion on this forum for a long while. I subscribed to it some time ago with no issues. Save your money.

  7. As the link from frosty says it has been mentioned before. You can't just buy the shields on their own. They rust and myself and others on the net just bin them and don't bother replacing them.

  8. Totally agree with this. The hybrid must be one of the easiest and most relaxing cars to drive. You only hear the whine when the car is pushed hard and even then it is only sounds 'unusual' and not unpleasant. More importantly, the the car pulls very strongly when required (esp in Power Mode). Under normal driving conditions I have found passengers are unable to tell whether the petrol engine is running or if the car is in EV mode. Interestingly the Honest John team had an Auris Hybrid Excel estate on long term test about a year ago and loved it - I would read those HJ test reports and rely on them much more that the standard motoring mag reviews (unless you're a 22 year old who likes to drive like a maniac and gets a 'semi' when you hear the sound of a v8!)

  9. I have a 2011 Auris t-spirit hybrid, owned it over 1 year now. Being the t-spirit, it has wider tyres and 17" wheels, so the ride is a little firm, steering feel is good, not too light at all, and body roll is non existent....it corners like it`s on rails. The engine/ice, cvt/hsd noise that reviews have reported, is utter rubbish. Its the quietest car I`ve ever driven, the engine is only audible when in the power region of the display, and then, it`s not noisy....tyre noise is the first thing you`ll hear because there`s so little else to hear. I`d recommend one without hesitation.
