  1. I was in a store yesterday and saw Car Plan 500ml brake cleaner at £1 a tin so thought, bargain, i'll have one of those. Also got aerosol tin of copper grease at £1 plus some other bits and pieces. Discover when i got home they charged me £3.59 for the brake cleaner - NOT a happy bunny. Waste another few quids worth of petrol to go down and gut them out.

  2. Been protecting our 59 plate 3 cylinder with Redex (with the original EGR valve) and it drives just fine

  3. iirc (sorry, I would have to unload a pile of stuff to check) it's clipped in across the body, quite close to the rear seat backs but under the carpet.

  4. Hi Konrad, Thanks for all that info.I have been topping it up when the level has been just below "Max" on a pretty regular basis of late but I will do a more scientific check.

  5. Thanks a lot. I can't really get a grasp of how many this is a problem for. I owned an 'original' new MINI, and the gearboxes in those were like cheese. Mine inevitably died as did most of them. This doesn't seem as wide spread as that, and given the thread on here is a few years old and only 4 pages long with no new posts since 2014 I'm hoping it's something that would have happened by now. Time will tell, and needless to say if I notice anything within my 6 months warranty I'll get onto it. Must admit, this has tarnished the purchase a little so far. I'm sure once I get the car and everything is fine I'll feel a bit more positive about it.

  6. If the jack handle looks like this from my T27, then you can safely buy it. I checked the part numbers and the jack handles have the same part numbers (09113) for both T25 and t27: http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/2006/avensis/zzt251r-aemekw/3_273550_049_223W/tool-engine-fuel/0901_standard-tool http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/2009/avensis/zrt271r-awfepw/2_273560_041_410W/tool-engine-fuel/0901_standard-tool

  7. The difference between standard branded (BP, Shell, Esso, etc) fuels compared to supermarket fuels boils down to the additive package added to the road tanker when fuel is collected from the depot. Supermarket fuels tend to have a more basic package than the branded fuels and may not keep one's engine as clean internally.

  8. Going to cost but that's always a risk with older cars. An independent repairer might be a cheaper option. Regards.
