  1. Hi guys. I thought i would share todays antics. Oil pressure light came on. Car has nearly 200,000. We cleaned the pick up strainer as with the mileage we expected to be a sludge build up on the mesh. To our suprise it was clean I guess regular servicing paid off. So new oil was added with new filter. Red oil light was still on next to the battery one whilst on idle it would go away when revved. At first it would be flashing then stay on. So next point of call was the oil pressure switch. This is the oil filter housing and can be seen whilst looking under the bonnet. So far so good just wish we changed the switch first, i suppose a good pickup clean and sump clean isnt bad for the engine.

  4. Jimmy well done mate. Thanks a million, really! Messed up the EPB on my 2009 petrol tourer a few months back. Used the Foxwell NT415 tool when I was changing the rear brake discs and accidentally cleared something after which the handbrake would not auto release and constant 'check EPB' message on dash plus warning light. To be clear to anyone new to this: YOU DON'T NEED ANY ELECTRONIC TOOL TO DO THE REAR BRAKES ON A 2009 AVENSIS. Just a RH and LH threaded piston wind back tool. I was on to Gendan and they on to Foxwell on and off for weeks and they could not solve this issue that I caused with my inexpert and unnecessary NT415 assisted meddling. Was dreading my MOT in October cos felt I would then be having to go to Toyota and ask them to work on this and as you know the cost of the servo motor box unit is like £1300 last time I checked and I thought they might try to stick me for one as mine is noisy (but serviceable IMHO). This routine you have just posted fixed my car in 2 minutes. Thanks again really grateful and chuffed. BTW I still won't be using the auto release mode cos I can feel it eating the clutch every time. But overall in spite of the EPB worries the Avensis tourer has proved a cheap to run and reliable workhorse and I am currently thinking about trading in for a 2012.

  6. I asked in a key booth near supermarket how much would cost to get a copy key for my Auris - they said something around £80 if I want it with all buttons like original and they confirmed that they can copy the chip codes... I did not order it as my two original keys still work fine (despite one of them is bent), but IMHO it is definitely worth to ask if you still have one original key.

  7. I am getting fed up of the number of posts where people are bragging about driving at speeds well in excess of the speed limit. None of this "private road/race track nudge nudge wink wink" crap either. The next person to make a post of this nature will be banned. No warning, no message to ask you not to post things like that just straight to a ban. If you want to post about your exploits breaking the law then please also include your full name, address, car reg and where/when you broke the speed limit so that TOC can pass it on to your local Police so that you can be removed from our roads as well as our forums!

  8. Try the brakes with the engine off. If you get a solid pedal then the brake system is sound. When the brakes are applied when the engine is running and the car stationary the ABS system senses that the wheels are locked and a skid is occurring and it releases the pressure in the system. The more the pedal is pressed, the more the pressure will be released until the pedal is floored. This topic has been aired on this forum previously and other members had Toyota confirm that this is normal.
