  1. I noticed the remote was getting lazy when locking/unlocking the car, so decided to replace the batteries. As a caution I did this at home with both set of keys available. The first key worked fine but the second key only locked the car, but did not unlock! After confirming that the micro switch worked, I checked the forum and found this: - Open the drivers door and insert the key and turn to ignition, but don't start the engine. Wait 10 seconds then press the unlock button on the key twice (the key is still in the ignition position). You will hear the doors make a unlocking sound twice after the key presses. There is a slight delay. The key now should unlock the car remotely. I could not find the original post again as I had cleared my history. I printed the instructions along with the much longer key programming version. I have since found the original post and it was DONIE who posted the fix in replies: http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/91321-remote-central-locking-being-tempremental/ As I said before the condition is the remote only locks the doors, but cannot open them and disable the alarm. It works with my year of car so should work with pre-vvti. After that it will be trial and error. Once again the forum has come good!

  2. Only 98.......... I've just got back from a 4100mile round trip to Budva in Montenegro and back. Through the Bosnian mountains too. My car just keeps on going and going :-P its just clicked over 176000 miles and guess what's gone wrong with it............. Nothing (well almost nothing) The air con was working the hardest it ever has in the Croatian 40degrees so it leaked on my floor. A quick 5 minute fix with a piece of hose pipe and no more trouble. So after 176 THOUSAND MILES I don't think that's bad going !!!!

  3. That section is covered here http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/Toyota_Avensis_Exhaust System.aspx The main difficulty is whether the front pipe can be replaced without compromising the Cat section. You may then have to factor in that too. Note that interface between the manifold and the front pipe is 'spring-loaded' and sealed with a dealer only part known as a doughnut. Without further checking you can't confirm whether this seal has failed. I wouldn't expect you'll see much change from £150 but even that is only a guess.

  4. Are the OEM discs made of any different metal than other makes? I suspect not. Non Toyota pads are available and using say Ferodo or other decent makes would be more economical Just the way I see it Del

  5. I think you might be right in regards to the thermostat. I took it for it's MOT yesterday and had to wait for an hour to get it seen. Once in there the engine revs were high, but then after a time everything calmed down once it had warmed up and the fan had kicked in. It failed the emissions when it was cold, but once it had warmed up it was fine. And thanks Mike169 I'll try that today.

  8. Late mk1 1.3 or mk2 1.3 would be ok if well looked after, it's a Toyota and will last forever, both my Toyota are at 87thow (Corolla teardrop 02 1.6) and 96thow (Yaris mk1 pre teardrop 1.3 SR) still running like a dream and I track both cars aswell so they don't get an easy life lol

  9. Thanks Soeley We really enjoying driving our IQ, and it gets better the more we use her, and it has a big car feel for such a little car. Our makeshift car mats, now I wish that I had kept them old spare rubber mats from our previous cars... Thanks to the courier company, there is now proper protection!

  13. Yes, it's hard to let go sometimes Konrad, did the same myself with the last Jeep Grand Cherokee I sold (I was fond of the old battle horse). Sure enough it was still taxed and MOT'd - isn't the Net a wonderful thing. Mind you, cars can be like boats, you get two really happy days - the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
