  1. My 2017 Excel has very quiet braking......but i too would be more than a little peeved Alan, if a new car was doing something new cars shouldn’t do. Personally I would continue to pester Mr T until he either fixed the problem (or changed the car????)

  2. i dont belive that could work very well. I am pleased to say i have fixed it! this is what i did. I identified the maf sensor by looking at google pics of maf sensors, its the one on the left of the airbox. I removed it carefully by first removing the two bolts that hold the cable/cam that get in the way of removal. then the maf has two screws, carefull not to drop em, use magnetic bits, it comes out easy. GENTLY cleaned the sensor wires and blob with a cotton bud soaked in ISOPROPYL alcohol. careful not to leave any cotton fibres on it. i let it dry and assisted by blowing it. put it back in, and now no hesitation or jerking on acceleration. :)) hope it helps someone, as i had great trouble finding the info

  3. Thank you revband, for your input mate. I thought i’d give it a try this morning, with the help of my 18yr old trainee mechanic son bless him. It wasnt such a bad task actually. The only tools required were a 10mm and a 14mm socket with extension bar on a ratchet. I didnt expect two coolant pipes attached but they were easy to tackle. The egr cooler pipe was the first thing we removed, followed by the egr itself. Now the cooler pipe was pretty clean considering that its brand new and recently replaced by Toyota under warranty. The egr unit itself wasnt to bad either, easily cleaned with a can of carb cleaner. However once all removed, the section on the main engine itself, where the egr attaches to, was pretty much blocked up with soot, there was hardly any room for any more soot, so using a screwdriver and a vacuum cleaner, we got it pretty much like new again, using the carb cleaner to finish, we gave it a good spray inside toward the engine. After putting her all back together again, we fired her up, a few revs to 4000rpm, and wow...alot of black smoke, and she was all cleared up...unless its my imagination she sounds alot healthier too. So thats my input on cleaning an egr for those interested. Thank you All

  4. TBH, I think at the second half of the video it is first slowed down (the video and sound) and then accelerated - to provide a different view that may help diagnosing the issue. @mravikt can confirm whether I am correct or not.
