  1. Your engine has direct injection like the 2.4 ( Every other petrol engine used in the Avensis to the latest Valvematic is indirect!). Direct injection has a much higher pressure in the fuel rail to the injectors. What you need to do is turn the key to IGN (not start!). You may hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. This will help pressurize the fuel system. Repeat a few times to get the fuel pressure up and purge any airlocks in the system. Then you can start the car. You get a bit of misfire at first, but don't rev the engine until it is running smoothly. Once the engine has settled, you should be okay. I suspect the EML or CEL as you call it, was warning of low fuel pressure. Hopefully it will go off when the engine is fine. The code will still be store until a diagnostic is cleared.

  2. Hi folks Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. I picked up our new to us Aygo yesterday. It's a late 2016 X-Press which we bought from the dealer where it had been a demonstrator having covered 5000 miles. It was an interesting drive home in a blizzard, I've not had chance to use it again since as we're using our 4x4 until the roads are better. Drove well in the bad weather, I just need to adjust to the smallness of it, having changed from a Skoda Superb.

  3. Yes some dealers are offering 2 for 1 still, Listers were quoting £748 which I thought was a bit steep but Stephen Eagell are offering it at £354 and 0% finance

  4. There is more to the EGR system than just the EGR valve, check all the pipes, the passage through the cylinder head, intake manifold & EGR cooler for carbon blockage

  5. I've noticed that if you're "just passing through" reverse, the light doesn't come on. You need to move the selector relatively quickly though in a smooth motion. You can see it best if you park next to a wall or hedge at night.

  6. I have always changed the oil on cars I have owned, on my drive and never needed to jack them. my latest car has under engine cover with an access door. I can still change the oil without any issues. The Mk2 has under engine cover, but no access door. Cover needs to be removed, some bolts 10mm socket or cross head screwdriver, others trim clips. There are two types of trim clips and ways to release them. One is to use a suitable tool to pull the centre out part way, then pull the clip away. The second type of clip is to push the centre further in, then pull the whole clip away. Try this first. I have the tools for these, but a flat head screw driver will suffice. The oil filter is at the front of the engine. Hopefully it should be easy to remove. I have about fiver or more filter removal tools, for any situations. The sump plug is either 14 or 17 mm, and it is advisable to replace the fibre washer. The diameter of the washer is 22mm and inner hole is 12 mm. Most hardware stores sell them. The hardest bit is having to take the old oil to the dump.

  7. Strangely, I read it as "Germany", too, then I realized there were too many of the wrong letters.

  8. VSC became a compulsory fitment on all new vehicles sold in the EU after 1st November 2014 regardless of whether they have disc or drum brakes. For example the current Aygo has ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear.

  9. At least someone has ultimately decided that the best place for a u.s.b. outlet is not to hide it in the glovebox.

  10. Do not put neutral in hybrid or if you have to, then disable ac etc and do ot just short times. There is no clutch in hybrid toyota. Great youtube video about transaxle what is also in mk2 auris In hybrid neutral will disconnect electric motors and if you keep car runnin you will drain hybrid battery and car cannot recharge it. If you drain it too low, only dealer can fix it.

  11. Dont worry Harters, we are all fools at times, so you not alone. Hi Keith, I am loving the Prius I had 1 month now (plus the 7 months in the Auris Hybrid, now the wifes). Would love a new one, but I have said I will never buy a new car again, loose too much in the first year......... but I can dream. I am 70 (nearly 71) and not working now, so it would be very hard for me to justify £25k for a new car anyway, so its dream on!

  13. same here (and most are blown away by the screens and the near silent, smooth progress). It's the first car I've had since a GL Vauxhall Nova I bought new in 1984 which had a really rich rust colour ribbed velour interior, including seats and door trim. The whole dash was in a matching colour, with off white pillar covers and headlining. Male and female passengers used to remark "wow!" the first time they got in. I actually chose the interior colour first (it's what I see most!), then chose from the available non-metallic paint colours that I could have with it.

  14. Is that what Crossover means now? Just a Fat version of the original car?? I don't know who buys these things! Or so many! I just want a small 3.5m-ish long car that can hold a lot of stuff, has good range (At least 300 miles on one charge at 70mph for electric, 600miles on 35L for fossil fuels) and shedloads of torque at all speeds! And a collimated digital dash. And a slide and tilt sunroof. Also aircon. Sliding folding rear seats. Lots of gloveboxes and other closable storage bins. 5 doors and 5 seats. Maybe a flamethrower. Or a catapult for firing copies of the highway code at other people! Oooh oooh, how about 2 buttons that are linked to light-up signs at the back (One says "Thank you!!" and the other says "Drop dead!!"). The buttons have to be different shapes so you don't press the wrong one...

  15. Isn't Toyota's advertising slogan something like ' Drive it like you stole it ', or is it, ' Always a better way ' I can never remember which

  16. To be honest, probably nothing to worry about. I wouldn't be quibbling over 10 mpg. If it dropped down to say 36 mpg, then maybe, but 46 mpg is still good. I only achieve that out of my tiny little engined AYGO! One thing you could check yourself, is jack each wheel up, spin the wheel and see if any are dragging.

  17. Yes, sounds about right to me too. As I understand it, RSA also will display no overtaking signs, and warns you (subject to your warning settings) if it thinks you're about to disobey. I can't confirm as I haven't seen any on my travels so far. However, I normally drive with my TomTom for directions (about 20,000% better than the built in one). On a long trip, I program the destination into both, partly out of interest, and partly so that if the suction mount detaches from the BeanBag base I can use the T&G2+ until I can stop safely and reattach. I would say they are also both wrong about 10% of the time, but not always in the same places. Sometimes all three systems display a different speed (occasionally all three wrong too!). I came close to turning RSA off, but I like it as a reference, and whatever any of them say, I make my own decision, but use them to challenge me to double check what I think the correct limit is. DashCam: It's a shame, since the Gen 4 Prius has a front and rear camera, they didn't link it to a recording device (even as an extra cost option), so that it could have a built in black box. This could even record info such as lights on/off, horn use, indicators and brake lights that would be very difficult for the add-on variety. Given DashCams appeared over 12 years ago, I can't believe no manufacturer offers a built in option (as far as I know).

  18. Sounds about right for London Seriously though, I treat the RSA as a gimmick and don't rely on it. It can only read what it sees and if it misses a speed sign or misreads a different sign as a speed sign then that's what it will show. There are so many signs in city streets now that it, like us humans, can get confused.
