  1. Perfectly correct, which is exactly how moisture gets into the brake fluid. I've heard of some cars that have a flexible membrane built into the fluid reservoir cap. This goes up and down with the fluid level, but reduces the amount of air (and water vapour) entering the fluid.

  2. I don't own an Avensis, but, the parking brake (handbrake) warning light is often also used as a 'low brake fluid' warning light. This would fit in with your symptoms. The sensor is almost certainly in the brake fluid container lid. Some very gradual drop in fluid level follows on from normal brake pad wear being accomodated by extra fluid behind the caliper piston. But, (when the brakes were last checked?) I would get this looked into with some urgency. It may be nothing more than worn brake pads and a lack of someone topping up the fluid. But if the fluid drops too far then you will have no footbrake. This is your early warning.

  3. The bell housing part of your filter is short? Measure up how much you are short, and check other filters that are equal or longer than that 🙂 Or maybe someone replies and just tells you buy this.

  4. Hi OldCodger, Thanks for the reminder, the bottle has been open 3 days now, and kept sealed this is why I'm doing the Toyota now too, as it's more efficient to use it all at the same time. Good note for anyone reading this thread though: don't store opened bottles of Brake Fluid.
