  1. I would like to share my experience with you guys. I have recently bought a 2011 Avensis tourer 2.0 d4d to use as a taxi. it came with privacy/tinted glass from factory. the council does not allow this for passenger safety. I sourced some windows from a breakers yard from a 2012 model. 2012 is the facelift model. so the glass is the same in the preface lift and face lift model. the rear quarter(boot) and tailgate glass had to be removed professionally as its bonded. I used the same guy who the breakers yard used to save on labour costs. the door glass I changed at home with the removal of the door card. I am now left with privacy glass if anyone is interested in purchasing please get in touch, i will attach before and after photos. I would like to say thank you to Konrad for the moral support and help.

  2. Pretty extreme having to change the boot & quarter panel glass as well as the rear doors, here in Ireland I only needed to change the rear door glass and I was pretty peed off having to do even that much, but in hindsight it does make sense as now an intending passenger can see into the car before getting in.

  6. Welcome to Toyota Owners Club. Toyota GB would only have information on models they directly import, and the Noah was never officially exported to either the UK or Europe.

  7. Hi Mike.. well, I am over seventy now so major car jobs that include skinned knuckles and laying on my back doing contortionist tricks I leave to younger fitter fitters 🙂 I am seriously considering buying a fourty year old plus Land Rover if I can find the right one. Tax exempt, MOT exempt and insurance as a histotic vehicle works out at about £6 - £10 a month! The good thing about a vintage Land Rover is that they don't stand out in a car park like other historic vehicles as they have not changed body shape and looks much since they were first introduced in the late fourties; so probably won't get trashed as othe vintage vehicles would if left to the mercy of car park vadals. I don't do a high milage these days... so any extra fuel consumption would not be so much of an impact. Plus... the fun factor of an older car far out strips the fun to be had driving one of these modern all plastic, electronic semi-computer cars that are almost impossible to work on and seem to stop working or goes into slow-mo mode as soon as a sensor starts getting flaky. As long as It has four wheel drive, I don't care if it has sliding or wind-up windows or if it only has an ignition key, a light switch and a wiper switch. I also don't care if the dash is all metal with just a speedo, an ignition and oil light fitted... My grandson and myself spotted a Delorion yesterday while out driving... not sure if it had a flux convertor fitted but it looked great! Take me back to when cars were fun (and cheap) LOL Call me a Luddite... but I know what I like ^

  8. I fail to understand how the car senses that there's extra weight in the back of the car and why on earth would the revs jump around for that reason? At idle, too.

  9. All three avensis ive owned have done it when cold, they’re all petrol but it’s never had a detrimental affect on the car Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  10. Hi John, Although I have an Aygo, I've been following this thread for a couple of years now, you've done great things and your Carina is a credit to you but.....Crikey, you've outdone yourself this time!!! That little mod is pure genius! Well done and keep up the good work! All the best.😃

  11. I have acquired a small tft display and wondered what use I might put it to.... Reversing Camera Display !! .... BUT .... Where to put it/integrate it conveniently into the dashboard 🤔 Fortunately the screen casing is EXACTLY the gap of the Ashtray slot... Having made this significant discovery.... I hacksawed the frontplate off the ashtray moulding [I don't smoke!!] and epoxy glued it to the bottom edge of the screen case. So that the screen makes a smooth and easy slot IN/OUT I have added guide lugs to the inner top edges, able to pivot within the guide slots.... Enabling me to pull out the screen and have it drop easily down, behind the gearlever and present a good viewing angle for the camera 😉. I haven't completed the installation just yet - still need to put the camera above the rear plate (in the light bar) and run the cabling under the carpet. Will report back soon 2sav

  12. Hey! Just so we're clear, this happens when the car is cold, hot, or both? Another question, does the rev wandering occurs only when car is stationary? What happens if you start driving or cruising, no rev changes there? Is the car okay otherwise? No power loss, no smoke, all liquids at their optimal levels? Was this always like this or it only started doing it recently?

  13. With regards high mileage longevity, the 1.8 HSD motor in the Prius (and Auris) does have a tendency to use oil at somewhere around 130k miles. This is being reported quite frequently on the PriusChat forum. e.g. https://priuschat.com/threads/excessive-oil-consumption-on-2010-prius.169329/ The above might be down to the engine using low-friction piston rings with less spring loading, in an effort to improve overall engine efficiency. It doesn't seem to cause any catalyst problems, it's just that you have to keep an eye on the dipstick! Changing the oil to a 5w/30 helps limit the oil consumption (0w/20 is standard), but then the fuel economy will drop off a little as a consequence (3-5 mpg, maybe more???). Although some report no change in mpg. Also, just occasionally, head gaskets can go at similar mileages. This may be a function of a clogged EGR cooler causing lean/hot combustion. The EGR cooler and its plumbing is not too difficult to clean yourself, and worth doing as a preventative measure sometime near 100k miles. I haven't done our car, but it looks reasonably easily accessible from above. Parts removed and cleaned are usually all reusable, so minimal cost. The head gasket situation is thought to be aggravated (ref. plenty of PriusChat posts) by owners starting their cold engines and turning them off before a warm-up cycle has occured. The condensation which can happen in the inlet manifold is drawn into the combustion chamber on the next start-up and causes (very audible!) detonation for a short while (13:1 compression ratio on these engines is quite high). This stresses the head gasket. So in cooler weather it is a good scheme to let the engine warm up a bit before you turn it off. HTH

  14. Also, colder air in the winter is denser, which means the car has to work harder to push it out of the way. Various other things, like combustion can be more or less efficient depending on air density, temperature and humidity, battery is less efficient when cold, and takes slightly longer to warm up. But net results mean more fuel used, higher emissions, largely due to more engine running and denser air. The Gen 4 reports % of time in EV mode (car choice, not just when EV button used), and can often exceed 50% of the time. This can be seen for A & B trips, plus since start and since main ODO stats reset (I do this at each service).

  15. Stp boost restorer and fuel injection cleaner, can be found in Halfords as a twin pack for roughly €15-€20 sometimes as tri pack too as the 3rd will clean the cat out too, it does cause the car to run a little lean for about 1 or 2 tanks of petrol, but the results on a MOT or NCT are worth it, diptane will also clean the engine out but I don't think it's as good as STP I left my Corolla sitting for one year and had the same problem, drive the car daily for about 20+ miles and occasionally let her out in 2nd or 3rd to red line. This sorted out my car.
