  1. I have just done a pig of a job. The lighter socket on my Camry packed up and I use it for charging my phone, I thought well there must be a fuse somewhere, so I looked through them all under the bonnet, wasn't there, I knew there was another little fuse panel hiding behind a little fold down storage flap low on the right side of the dash. I looked there and sure enough there was the fuse, but it was ok and it had power on it? Ended up stripping the centre unit out to get at the socket and found that the power comes in on a spade connector and then there is a short bit of wire linking it to the centre pin of the socket and it was broken. So had to take it all out and solder a new wire on. seems stupid to have a bit of wire that fails before the fuse! Anyway working now.

  2. Totally new to Toyota. Thinking of trading in my 2007 Qashqai. Took the Yaris for a test drive last night and was pleasantly surprised. I know nothing about them though! Had been looking at the ecoboost focus until I read horror stories about the engine. Would you folks mind helping? Do you like your Yaris? Is the car regarded as reliable, especially the 1.33 engine? Do you find the 6th gear useful on the motorway? Any other helpful info or hints or things to look out for? Model I am looking at is white with rear blacked out windows, 20k on the clock. Its nice but just want to be a wee bit more informed. Thanks!

  4. Nice bus, Johnny...and identical to mine except mine is a 7 seater (and a V6) with two Captains type seats in the middle rather than the bench...though the bench makes a much better bed.!!! They are a great vehicle...and as you rightly say, give plenty of bangs for your buck. I've had mine about the same time as Tony...2.5 years..and have never regretted it for one moment. It is simply a pleasure to drive (well, "glide" is more accurate..) Enjoy.

  5. Just Put a fuel additive in .. I used Wynn Formula Gold Petrol Treatment 500ml £16 Been for a long drive ..... worked the car hard .... did up to 50 in 2nd gear to get revs high , then into 3 rd I'm normally in 4 th at 30 mph .... felt strange ...but the car was responsive and not crying for a gear change it's driving a lot better and certainly back to Normal .... maybe I need to do this more often and it's just a round the town car mostly thanks for all the help everyone.... much appreciated

  6. Tony, Sincerely hope your little Mrs. picks up. You need to have a dream though. I have camped in my old 1993 TD import 8 seater for over 10 years now. Made the curtains and runners myself. The daughter and her friend only slept in it last night on our drive. So..so practical! Great vehicles for camping/surfing with. And you don't need to worry about sitting in a layby for the AA every time you set off, like the type 2 VW camper I used to have! Cheers Johnny

  7. Hi John, the Esti looks very nice. I can only agree with everything you say. My idea was to use it to camp in but the Mrs being ill we haven't had the chance to. Enjoy your Estima mate. Tony.

  8. Hi, I bought a OM500 code reader after lots of research for my 2003 Esti. £29 from eBay. It will read codes fine and clear codes too. Seems to be well constructed too! They're still available on ebay. I connected mine no problem and it definitely was talking with the ECU with no error messages. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Om500-Obd2-JOBD-Auto-Diagnostic-Tool-Engine-ECU-Code-Reader-Scanner-Japanese-Car/1744995960?iid=182192213123&chn=ps&ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F710-134428-41853-0%2F2%3Fmpre%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%252Fp%252FOm500-Obd2-JOBD-Auto-Diagnostic-Tool-Engine-ECU-Code-Reader-Scanner-Japanese-Car%252F1744995960%253Fiid%253D182192213123%2526chn%253Dps%26itemid%3D182192213123%26targetid%3D142413585906%26device%3Dm%26adtype%3Dpla%26googleloc%3D9045666%26poi%3D%26campaignid%3D207297426%26adgroupid%3D13585920426%26rlsatarget%3Daud-133395220626%3Apla-142413585906%26abcId%3D%26merchantid%3D113573893%26gclid%3DCjwKCAjw_IPcBRAjEiwAl44QkVlGeu82JUvh3qjcIN41wB8nDCX1rOVvNW_7kQRsaRBJd9KYXXGAKxoCIhcQAvD_BwE%26srcrot%3D710-134428-41853-0%26rvr_id%3D1643912668501%26rvr_ts%3D7128a9681650add88f079c10fffacb47 Hope this helps.. 9. Ok thanks Konrad, yes I certainly intend to document it with videos and photos etc as it's a mammoth task and a lot more involved on a whole different level that fitting a 2.8V6 Cologne into a Cortina or a rally spec Redtop into a 1.6 Cavalier which I've both done. My post was a little tongue in cheek being more about what to 99.9% of people would be a complete waste of time with just an olf Avensis still to show for it but it's actually the difficulty and the complexity that makes me want to do it. For a lifelong car nut who left college 6 months before getting my engineering degree this would be it's equal. I don't mind admitting that it'll be great to shock a few Honda vtec andnTypeR drivers lol The question of the transmission is one area I'm anticipating being troublesome, even more. than the electronics, ecu's etc. I can see me. having to make or adapt some form of hybrid Avensis/Celica mounts or perhaps even use a 5spd trans if it comes to it. I've spent countless hours pouring over and digesting everything thing I could find about the 2ZZ-GE aswell as the Celica itself working out if it is possible, viable and looking for that one thing that proves it to impossible which I haven't found. With some mild tuning to get it over the 200bhp mark it will take the Avensis into the territory of the likes of the Sapphire Cosworth or similar which is potentially quite scary as when new it was designed for about 125 bhp. A 75-80 bhp increase or over 50% more power effectively would probably make the standard body/chassis of a T22 near undriveable but with the fully uprated adjustable suspension I've already fitted it's already a different driving experience with the original motor. It'll corner, hold the road yet is incredible controllable at speed. It handles unlike any other T22 I've driven so with some strategic strengthening of the frame and shell aswell replacing all the existing bushes, ball joints, tie rods etc to make it should have the ability to cope far better with the extra power. I've no doubt there will be challenges I've not even contemplated ahead but that's kind of the point 😊😊

  10. Hi, Do you mean, " can the rubber damper move and unbalanced the drive shaft " ... ? Seems there are some metal fitting moulded into the ends of the rubber which hold it securely, I had to tap it with a hammer and drift to move it from its original location to get at the rusted area. If it did move doubt it would unbalance the driveshaft in that sense, its function is more like this rather than a balancing weight on a wheel - A dynamic damper for a drive shaft may include a mass part fixed to the drive shaft, and a clamping band fixing the mass part to the drive shaft, to attenuate vibration and noise of the drive shaft,

  11. Insurance doesn't often go down Michael mines about the £350 mark. My car came with two stick on windscreen aerials they've not been a problem in the two and a half years I've had the motor. Let's hope they can get the cameras to work.
