  1. Happy Easter, everyone, To those of you who are buying or have bought the new Corolla, which engine did you choose. the extra cost of the 2.0 equals £4,000 in Denmark. I must admit that I felt the new 1.8 122 BHP was way more responsive than my own, old 136 BHP? I've read that perhaps the 2.0 is a lot smoother and quieter (partly due to acoustic windscreen? I feel my own 2013 136 BHP is very dull when accelerating in ECO mode whilst at the same time staying within the ECO band on the "hybrid meter". However, I have always driven the car in ECO mode to max economy. On the other hand, when I put my car in normal mode, I feel it is quite responsive, and with Power mode, I have all the power I have ever needed. I felt like the 122 BHP in the Touring Sports Corolla and in ECO mode perhaps felt equally responsive to my own 136 in normal mode. I'm a very easy (probably slow) driver so I have no doubt, the 1.8 would be enough. Then again, I like the punch form overtaking found in my fathers 150 BHP 1.4 TSI Touran. On a 17.5 mile return trip (test drive, from dealer,) I average 73.4 mpg thinking about economy. On the trip out, I only got 50.3. Which engine would you go for? I have just read, Toyota plans to sell three fully EVs in Europe in 2021. As I will be keeping the car for a minimum of eight years, perhaps I should hold of. But the Corolla is really nice, indeed.

  2. I've been driving different versions of the Prius since 2010. My other half liked them as well, and eventually joined my in getting one herself a couple of years back. So at the moment, sitting on our drive, are two 2011 Gen III T-Spirits. All that is changing in a few weeks though. I have been seduced by another vehicle. So much so, that one of our Prii is being taken as a trade in. I won't be moving too far from Mr T though. I will still be hybridised. I have been tempted, and have succumbed to one of the new 1.8 Hybrid Corolla Saloons. I'm going to think of it as a Prius in a saloon suit. Same familiar running gear, just a different top coat. (To be honest, I prefer a saloon to a hatchback anyway) Those who are interested, you'll have to go to Toyota.ie and chose the Luna Sport grade to see what I am moving to. But, I will still have one Prius on the drive ……..

  3. Thanks to inspiration from Craig here, this is my version for my wife who hated the limitation of the stock basic cd player and radio and wanted more features including DAB radio. I decided to go the 3d-printed route rather than use too much filler, so after cutting out an aperture, I designed a suitable cradle to receive a stock DIN radio but with a flange on the right side to accommodate usb lead that fitted into the rear of the Pioneer radio I got cheap from Halfords. My wife's fascia is metallic, glittery black and I managed to find a can of spray paint from Halfords that was pretty close, but as you can see I'll need to sand back and respray the entire fascia the same colour at some stage. I will take more photos of exactly what I did from the rear when I do that, but in the meantime I have attached my 3D-print design and the (almost) final result, which has worked well for three months so far. Note - I printed from PETG plastic as PLA would melt in summer

  5. They look pretty good to me. New tyres have about 9mm. The 4th photo shows the ridge which is a marker that you down to legal limit, you can see the ridge about half way up from the bottom, a horizontal bar ridge. Both edges of the tread look good as well.

  8. Well the sunroof and AC serve two totally different purposes so I don't know why you think one would preclude the other... Personally, I like the extra light and feeling of space, but it does help vent out the hot air in conjunction with the AC when my car's been parked in the sun for too long.
