Hi, Total newbie here. My wife has a 2005 Corolla T3 1.4 D-4D 5 door. It was passed down to her from her grandma who'd kept it in generally really good shape apart from the odd minor scratch and a couple of rust bubbles, and it's only got about 84,000 miles on at the moment. So far she's had it 3 years and apart from eating its way through about 34 wheel bearings it's been pretty faultless. Whilst I'm really familiar with VAG cars of this era, I know literally nothing about Toyota, so I'm hoping that people on here can help me out and tell me what the common faults are likely to be as it gets older, and what issues may arise that simply aren't worth the cost/effort of repairing? Thanks!1 point

The Sharkfin only handles the FM signal the DAB antenna is a couple of wires embedded in the top of the windscreen, out of curiosity do you have a Dashcam along the top of the windscreen? As electrical items with poor electrical shielding have been reported as affecting the DAB reception.1 point

So confirmed, getting mine on 3rd September. Knowing my usual luck.... I was just waiting for the transport ship to be hijacked by the Iranian Navy. The next I would have seen of my RAV would be on news at 10 being driven around theran with the roof chopped off and machine guns welded on the back.1 point

I agree. Some while back Toyota actually used to have in print (on their web site) that (chargeable) repairs were diagnosed and repaired correctly first time or there was no charge should it subsequently fail. Yours was faulty under warranty all along and they have admitted they found a leak (which perhaps they weren't really expecting in all fairness to them) and so they should now refund the original charge imo. If they won't agree to that on the spot then remain calm and polite and simply ask for the address of their registered head office as you would like to complain over this in writing. I can't really imagine you will have a problem tbh but it helps to be prepared. Good luck.1 point

krk_man, great news. Thank you for the update. You inspired me to contact Toyota Slovakia and they've just confirmed me that HB/TS should be produced with this packet from 11/2019 and SD from 12/2019. Unfortunately, they couldn't confirm yet,if it will be possible to retrofit. Although I'm positive after your post, I'm still remaining cautious. There are no forward facing airbags at the rear seats, so there is nothing to disable. Installing car seats in the front passenger seat is generally not recommended.1 point

Yep, I once made a previously quiet high mileage Peugeot petrol engine really tappety by using oil flush. It still ran OK in terms of performance but never sounded right again after that.1 point

The car is well outside the time period of problematic Rav4 diesels. Nevertheless - head gaskets do fail infrequently on all cars often as a result of other issues (faulty thermostat, faulty electric fan, hose becoming detached etc etc). It may well be the reason for the previous owner selling the car. Although it's more than likely to be a head gasket failure - it would be necessary to conduct a "sniff test" to be conclusive. I suspect that Toyota will view the car as being too far outside the warranty period to offer any sort of goodwill contribution. This would be a head gasket job rather than a part engine replacement and I'd guess the cost would be of the same order as what you'd loose selling or part exchanging the car. In view of the uncertainties and unknowns - many owners would prefer to sell the car.1 point
