  1. So my own experience, since acquiring my Rav4 a week ago today ive completed about 1200 miles on a mixture of roads, town and city. Displayed averages of 49-52 or thereabouts for 1st while on decent runs of 150 miles or so... But today.... I mean I know it was over a shorter distance.... But to say I'm impressed is an understatement. Also, some clown in a transit hit my wing mirror in Hounslow yesterday, knocking the cowling off.. I picked it up, intact, from the roadside without a mark on it, all lips intact... Clipped it back in and its all good still.. Was amazed BLIS, heater and glass still OK... I like this motor!!!

  2. Your battery may need replacing. My Yaris Hybrid does nearly all short trips round town, less than 5 miles and about 2 to 3 longer trips a month. Never had any problems with the 12 v battery. Have you got anything connected to unswitched 12 volts such as a dashcam? This could soon run down the battery.

  3. Thank you that’s what I thought. They are fitted to the rear of the car as I had a new set fitted to the front just last year. I promise I won’t develop Senna driving skills !

  7. I used it when stationary, in a queue (with handbrake on), so that you don't dazzle with brake lights. OK if battery is not too low and wait not too long, otherwise use park..

  8. To be honest, I am not sure what Agis (Marcus) is saying, but I know he has the 1.8 2ZR Valvematic Avensis T27. I drive the Tourer (estate version) with the 6 speed manual. I don't understand or use the metric version of fuel economy, so will be basic on that. My car is averaging 36 mpg with mainly short and local driving. When on the motorway the instant guessomonitor shows in the 30 - 60 range, more to the 60 mpg marker, say upper 40's - 50 mpg. Now the power delivery and torque in a given gear. The engines real power comes in above 3000 rpm, and 4000 and above the car is fast. At lower rpm the car is fine, unless it is loaded. Basically, unless you are always in a hurry, there should be know problem. I tend to drive along at 30 mph in 4th or 5th gear without any issues. On the motorway unless really steep inclines, will be in 6th gear. On some fast A roads, when I have overtaken, I have dropped down to 4th or even 3rd. Remember this car revs up to 6600 rpm! But since most road are getting more restricted and enforced, more dual carriageways and I try and leave enough time to get to my destination without rushing, I don't always push the car. The engine is serviced using 0w-20 'prefered grade fully synthetic oil, air and oil filters, Denso iridium spark plugs, and tyre pressures checked. The oil is important to the efficiency of the engine. I carry a kick scooter and sometimes a folding bike with 26" wheels (12kg), full size alloy spare wheel, tools for emergencies. Brakes work fine and no dragging! The T27 will be a heavier car than the previous T25, plus the torque of the 2.0l gives it an advantage over the 1.8l valvematic, unless revved. I have been in all three Avensis - T22 (1.8 leanburn hatchback, owned), T22 vvti 1.8 hatchback, T25 vvti hatchback and estate 1.8, and 1.8 valvematic T27 estate. The T27 6th gear is basically additional to the other gears. I notice that the 5th gear on all models are the same revs for a given speed - roughly 3000 rpm @ 70 mph. So you have to come out of 6th gear, whilst the other models are happy in 5th. If your car is not performing like another identical model, then there could be something wrong with the vvti controllers. You will need to find someone local to you and see if their car drives like yours.

  9. Seen via the BBC news app this morning..... ”Toyota does not make money when replacing stolen catalytic converters in cars, and it is also bearing the cost to discount the Catloc device for its customers, while it researches more anti-theft technologies, the BBC understands”. the report from bbc went on to say it has been illegal to pay cash for scrap metal, but there are some dealers who do pay cash fo catalytic converters, which tempts thieves. The police need to put people in jail for paying cash for scrap metal, as soon as the do that, the trade would slow down and stop, the report said. so, the real problem is there are too many tea-leafs about, and too few places to “punish” them, so they flourish and multiply.

  10. Finally got a test driver yesterday, sadly only the Design version.. but was impressed by the build quality. For me, it is between the Camry Excel and Lexus ES .... to be honest, not a lot in it. Interesting the dealer advised their target market is VW & Skoda, but they're taking customers from Lexus, which wasn't the plan ! There are some obviously differences... Price ... about 20% when discounts taken into account... also only 4.9% on the Camry, but 5.9% on ES Camry is quiet, but Lexus more so.. harder to notice the engine and road noise in the Lexus, but not sure if enough to make a difference to me decision. The touch screen in the Toyota is much better than the awful mouse pad in the Lexus.. much easier to use... otherwise both seemed to have very similar controls. Some of the features worked better in the Lexus (lane departure was just a warning alarm in the Camry, but actively adjusted the steering in the ES. Camry looked like a bigger boot, but possibly an optical illusion. Leather seats in Camry are clearly lower grade, but were perfectly fine... I'd say similar to what you see in a BMW/Merc (Lexus is way ahead of the German brands in that respect) Doors are equally massive on both ... this is my biggest worry...the car is very wide and not sure how it will work in a supermarket car park... never mind the reach to close the door... overall very impressed ... need a long think about the price difference and small variation in quality.

  11. I am not sure how Yaris is but in Prius and Auris hybrid there is no direct connection with cables between gear selector and transmission, it’s all electronic, no power no gear change. You can try with yours if you have Yaris hybrid, despite looks same as standard auto I think may be electronic like other hybrids. Regards

  12. WMA really ? Mp3 has been the standard for over 20 years and standard in cars for at least 15 - What radio is it ? Use a USB 2.0 stick (not USB 3) no bigger than 16gb and format it in fat 32 - folders no more than 6 deep this it so it indexes faster you can put it in whatever folder you please the audio format contains the track data (metadata) all my audio is stored as artist - album - track, If you're ripping CDs windows media player it defaults to WMA, iTunes default to M4A The verso is just an overgrown Yaris 2016 it should be a Touch2 with Go what will play MP3, WMA and AAC (M4A) the touch2 is very picky on the format of the stick best bet is format it in fat32 try it with just one mp3 in a folder

  13. Yes.... The 'Wax-Oil' <no relation!> smells just like WD-40. I stood the tin in direct sunlight until it got hot! Gets the pressure/blasting way up, too! It is a genuine 'shipbuilders swear by it!' Industrial metal preservative.... When it dries off it is effectively invisible.... White spirit will remove any overspray, onto bodywork, which might attract dirt and look smudgy.. [as one Detailer to another lol] 2sav

  14. Does it matter? The bass will rattle all the rust out of a 2003 car that's holding it together.
