  1. People do get very hung up over oil grades.... The reason 0W20 oils have become commonplace is that they absorb less energy within the engine than a heavier grade like a 5W30. This results in slightly better fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. Obviously manufacturers want to show the best economy and lowest emissions during EU certification. Regulations require that the manufacturer 'recommends' the same oil to the customer as was used during certification. Therefore Toyota must recommend 0W20. Mechanically there is no reason you cannot use a 5W30. Its only a few percent difference in operating viscosity and would make a couple of percent difference on fuel economy.

  2. Just bought a very nice 2009 iQ, happy to be back in the Toyota family after owning a fairly dependable KIA for several years. My iQ is a 1.0 liter 5-speed with 200K km/125K miles on the odo, but super tight and very smooth riding. Still have to see if it's a Gen1 or 2. It was quite reasonably priced because it needs a new clutch & pressure plate. And I am pretty sure that it also needs a new throw-out bearing, since I noticed the trans suddenly losing contact with the engine at a steady 90kph/55mph on the way home in 5th from the seller's house. But once I dropped it into 4th, it reconnected and stayed connected the rest of the way home. Or could it be the 5th gear itself? Probably best to leave this info in a specific forum once I get all my info updated. Just glad to see so many happy, helpful fellow Toyota iQ owners (and other models) on this site. Hope nobody minds helping someone from Sweden, as I am looking forward to lending a helping hand from this side of the sea. How Swede it is!

  4. Needed to change the rear pads on my 2010 Avensis tourer, found this thread and it was helpful so I thought I’d share my experience. Chocked front wheels, ignition on, released electronic handbrake, ignition off. Was able to change rear pads as normal (remember left hand rear Caliper has a left hand thread when rewinding). Then pump brake pedal to get pads to engage, start engine and press brake pedal some more to get everything nicely lined up, then engage the handbrake. I didn’t need to reset anything electronically and handbrake works exactly as before. Hope this is helpful to someone else.

  7. Welcome Ed. Hope all goes well with the Granvia...nice vehicle and should prove very robust and reliable. As said...underseal would be well worthwhile ( I ha d mine done as part of the deal when I bought it)...and as Tony say, Adrian Flux would be a good place to go for insurance. I've used them for years and have my Estima covered through them. You shouldn't have too many problems with parts etc..there is a a lot of commonality within models..Hiace etc...I've yet to fail on anything I've needed for my V6 Estima. Have a look at sites such as Megazip and toyoDIY...very helpful for parts identification. All you need is the FRAME number..and then you can parts search easily...if you put your frame number into toyoDIY it will tell you much about your specific vehicle...build date, external and internal colour details, specs etc. Living with a JDM import shouldn't be any more difficult than a UK/Euro vehicle tbh..enjoy it.

  9. I am now able to find the thing in a giant car-park! I was very glad it had some red bits the other day, I was in totally the wrong part of a carpark, saw the red from 3 rows across the park.

  10. I know, I know. But it can't do any harm to present a free and bright idea, in case someone at Toyota does monitor the forums. I also know from a reliable source that Toyota is véry interested in what 'moves' or irritates customers...🙄

  13. Well, I would guess there's something wrong with the gearbox or the electronics controlling the automatic clutch - Yaris doesn't have a normal automatic gearbox; it's "Multi Mode Transmission" - a manual gearbox with an electronically activated automatic clutch and gear change. I'm assuming that you couldn't shift gears using the up and down on the gear lever or the paddles? I'm assuming that the MMT gearbox your one is the similar to the current models -- all I know is what's in the manual, but I drive a manual gearbox so can't be of a lot of help I'm afraid. Thanks anway, at least i kind of know what it is Hi did you find out the problem .. because I am having the same...
