  1. I've just taken delivery of a 2019 Corolla Design 1.8 Hybrid TRK. TRK indeed! The dealer suggested that if I couldn't use the useless tyre repair kit, I instead use the breakdown cover if I have a puncture but in rural Scotland that could be a very long wait for a repair. I was quoted silly money from the dealer for a space saver steel wheel so I found the wheel geometry somewhere and it's the same as an Auris Space saver. So I purchased the Auris one and it fits both the wheel studs and under the boot floor. I placed the order on Friday at 4pm and delivered via DHL the following Tuesday. Purchased from The Wheel Shop. https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/toyota-auris-space-saver-spare-wheel-17-and-tool-kit.html Don't forget you'll need the retaining bolt.

  2. Hi everyone, I purchased an Auris Hybrid in December of last year. I'm generally happy with the car, but I'd go as far as to say the infotainment system (Touch 2 with go?) is awful. It's slow, unresponsive, and the (very slowly released) map updates are always incorrect. I've had numerous instances of the system becoming completely locked up and crashing on me. Is there a viable replacement with Android Auto built in? I'd like to retain the reversing camera and vehicle overview features from the stock infotainment system. I've tried using an old Sony phone with MirrorLink, but that's also extremely unreliable and inconsistent, so isn't a suitable workaround. Thanks all!

  3. Catlocs are a device which is intended to deter thieves. However no security measure, whether it is an immobiliser, alarm, steering wheel lock, etc will be infallible. Few security devices will resist an attack by an angle grinder or similar. The action taken has been for Toyota to get Catloc to increase production of the fitments for affected vehicles, and to reduce prices for new cats. Toyotas aren't the only cars affected - some Hondas and Audis have also been subject to cat thefts. Yes, I've seen the comments on Toyota UK Blog, and realistically Toyota aren't going to be able to provide an individual reply to every comment, which will say something different to the stock reply. VAG are probably not the best to compare to for a number of reasons - including: dieselgate, having a current safety issue with rear seat belts on the new Polo which is subject to an official DVSA recall, and which they haven't got a remedy for, aside from the use of a cable tie to anchor the belt fitting (which has been rejected by DVSA as not a suitable fix). So currently new cars have a sticker on the interior warning against using the centre rear belt, issues with their new 1.5 engines, etc

  4. New lights fitted - yeah! Even with dropping the bumper & being very careful as I wanted to try and sell the drivers side light (as it wasn't broken), a part broke off it as I removed it which had clearly gone brittle over time. Never mind, nightmare now over 👍

  5. Thanks for the input. Guess I can tell my wife that the car is not haunted!

  6. I would've if it was Toyota related 😂 I've an engine swap in mind for the Corolla. Just need to get the Lada done first!

  7. When my Prius or the wife’s Auris hybrid due for service, on the phone booking I specify 0w-20 oil, and when I drop off the car I refer to 0w-20 oil again. I know manufacturers can’t be so specific these days, but if Mr T prefers 0w-20 in the hybrid engines, then that’s what I prefer to be put in. I don’t think there is anything wrong using 5w-30, tends to be a bit cheaper and that maybe why dealer/garages will want to use instead or 0w-20.

  8. Right, it is in fact at 2900 rpm at an indicated 70 mph, so slightly lower geared than I was thinking. The Auris still manages to be a more refined motorway cruiser than the Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi I used to own though.

  9. As above if its at a set speed its more than likely a wheel bearing starting to go - as its a hum or whine its rotational rear bearings usually start as a grumble - like road noise but louder it may be the case as at certain speed its hitting a harmonic resonance Rear disc ? Inspect and clean the handbrake shoes/drum if they are original it may be time for new ones

  11. As far as I know they all come with Falken tyres, the Ziex 914B Ecorun. Different pressures are for different models of Corolla (HB and touring) and for 16, 17, and 18 inch rims. ETA: My pressures were not set by the dealer. When checked all were in excess of 50psi, the max my gauge goes to 🙄. No response ever received from them about it - Steven Eagell in Aylesbury. Recommended pressures here.... https://blog.toyota.co.uk/toyota-tyre-pressure-and-size-guide

  12. After reading all the posts on this I have fitted a Samsung smarthings motion sensor in the car. this connects to the smart hub in the house. if the car is moved it will turn on the lights at the front of the house and the bedroom light (set to blue so I know what the problem is). If this happens at night I will just open the bedroom window and throw the wife at them. then they will be sorry

  13. No, measuring from the centre point of the wheel to the outer edge, the rim has ½ inch less and the tyre 11.25mm more. That ½ inch of rubber instead of steel still makes a difference tho. If you were to measure the diameter of the complete wheel/rim set up it would be: On a 225/40/18 setup - tyre sidewall height 90, plus wheel diameter 18", plus tyre sidewall height at the other side 90. Total 25.1 inches. 804 revs/mile. On a 225/45/17 setup - tyre sidewall height 101.25, plus wheel diameter 17", plus tyre sidewall height at the other side 101.25. Total 25 inches. 808 revs/mile.

  14. Most modern cars (as opposed to SUVs) are getting lower - it helps the aerodynamics so helps fuel economy/emissions.

  16. thanks mikesh for helping out. but i am sure it is not a loose spark plug. I did change my spark plug recently and the sound is always here. I have attached some new recordings in which you can hear the sound Much better than before !.. you will definitely hear something strange now ! Don't tell me it is nothing :)! I have compiled these recordings over several weeks of investigation. LINK:https://www.dropbox.com/sh/n04pib5mastixcq/AABV6ppJcICPRuW3EV86o0Zba?dl=0 Note: the sound is NOT big at all - only 400 kilobytes total (so less than 1 megabyte). therefore you can safety download all four. Thank you for listening to it and trying to help out !
