  1. Dead battery is my first suggestion. Batteries only last a few years, and if they fully discharge that could be the end of them. Keep them used daily, and they'll work well enough even though they may self-discharge somewhat overnight. Give them a day or so, or even a week, and they won't be recoverable. Mick.

  2. The only reason (that I see at the moment anyway) to upgrade to Android Auto and Apple Car play, is to make the car more appealing to future owners, and keep the car as up to date as possible. I don't see the big issue with the car sat nav, and I like the turn info in the instrument display, that sells it to me. The only thing I miss is house numbers, the Sat Nav just takes you to the street, whereas the Garmin unit in my commercial vehicle will take me to the house number. If I used the car a lot for business visits, that would persuade me to use the mobile sat nav, while on business. I don't know why Toyota had to build their own system, when Garmin or presumably Tom Tom would do that. And updates on a very regular basis. But I appreciate that not having Android and Apple connectivity, seems more important to some, so welcome the chance to get the upgrade.

  3. Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your situation. Agree, in the Covid-19 context, this matters little. Good to know about the financial agreements, too. Given all of this, I still have my current car (a 17-plate Ford Focus), decided to hang on to it once it became clear that the new Corolla would not be arriving any time soon. Mind you, I've hardly covered 50 miles in the past few weeks so maybe I don't need a car at all - I've walked and used my bike more! Current car's first MoT is due end April, although now extended for 6 months. That is very handy.

  4. I did a spot of cleaning the other day, it took 3 hours to clean out the bottles, but the end result was worth it.

  5. Hoping someone can help! My Aygo has been recalled for the second time to replace the passenger side window, the original recall was for the back glass window a few years ago ( i never got it done, i know i know! ) my problem is that i'm not sure if it's the root cause of the massive boot leak i have also acquired over the last year or so. The leak was found during a valet service to rid the car of mould that i'm only assuming is a result of the leaky windows in the recall notice. My question is - if i can book in to have the re call notices fixed ( not sure if they will as i am not a key worker besides the NHS volunteer scheme ) will they be responsible for finding the cause of the leak or will they fix both windows and that'll be the end of it? Any tips for keeping the mould at bay while the world goes back to normal would be appreciated also!

  6. Thanks for the reply. RainX cleaner and water repellent... This is the ideal product to use when Rain-X Rain Repellent needs to be re-applied to a pre-treated windscreen. I have already treated with RainX after thoroughly cleaning the glass. I could keep buying products that don’t fix the problem so I am looking for someone who has had the problem and solved it and what they did to solve it. I shouldn’t have this problem with a new car and new windscreen but can’t take it to the dealer at the moment for obvious reasons. Thanks for the ideas, please keep them coming.

  7. It seems this new feature will come "randomly" and not at the same time to the users as it happened with the EV and hybrid data. I got my EV data months after it was introduced. And now I don't have the fuel too.

  8. A dealer could do it but they'd charge. The problem is that if you choose to update everything it takes about an hour during which time the engine has to be running. They can't do it during the service so that's an extra hour while the car is sat blocking a service bay for which they'd charge. Updating is a bit of a faff but it's something we're expected to do for ourselves. The exact steps are (from here ) register satnav (https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/) "purchase" map update (https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/) make note of activation key (important, although it should appear in a confirmation email) download zip extract zip copy FMU folder to the USB (requires 11.2GB) start car put in usb nav system will verify the update acknowledge the update put in the activation key wait an hour at the end take out usb when directed the nav system will reboot. Note that purchasing the app will be free during the first three years but you still have to click through several pages including a statement of the tax you owe (20% VAT on zero is of course zero).

  9. It does the same as a traditional handbrake it holds the parking brake while your foot is off the brake pedal eg. doing a hill start or pulling away tbh it takes away from the skill of driving a manual, imho its just something else to break and it takes control away from the user

  10. Had a reply from Toyota. They now claim that it's because my first name isn't set in my details. Sounds highly unlikely.
