This is my 4th Toyota and always wanted an MR2 just for throwing about on some track days etc to keep my eye in...but will keep her for many years. Will certainly keep this post active with advancements! G

You would probably switch off lane assist unless on the motorway / duel carriage way for a long trip, because on normal rural twisty roads, it is always misreading the road edge and pushing you into the middle of the road. So a bit pointless, but on duel carriage way, it can stop you wandering across the lane by accident. Adaptive cruise is fine, except it tends to slow down whenever you approach a slip road, which can be annoying!

The looks like a rocker cover leak, remove coil packs and check for oil around the spark plugs and clean while you're in there. Order the gastket from Mr T, and use the link Kenny provided for the joint bead. Rocker cover is quite easy, the bolts are tightened to 10Nm and 9Nm on the 2 centre ones, but double check for your model. Good luck

Brakes work fine at normal driving speeds there is no noticeable difference. The difference comes when transitioning to low speeds, suddenly there is less regenerative braking and it can feel like you have to press the brake pedal harder to obtain the same braking effect, and then back off for the final stop. Seems normal now for me, it was just the first few stops weren't to my normal smooth standards. They have dimples in them, I've not had any overheating issues with them - I find them very comfortable. My previous car had Alcantara seats, I used to get a bit warm with them occasionally on long drives.

Had a look at my old Avensis there and the disks are smooth. The Corolla is booked in for service next week so I'll see what they say about it. Must ask them too about the android auto. I would need a lottery win as around 10k short! I would have the touring sport. They seem to start from 22k used for hybrid in Icon Tech on a 2019 plate. Saying that though would I use some of the technology like park assist, Lane assist? Adaptive cruise would be nice. Also like you say avoiding the wind is ideal, work on a cold engine and make sure you can do the torque specs, I got myself a 5-25nm specifically for this.

That is pretty standard with all cars. The speedo is always higher than the actual speed. Before GPS it wasn't so obvious.

Some enthusiastic work done there, very much needed by the looks of it. what may have made the engine bay cleaning easier is something I noticed you mentioned “elbow grease”, but you probably meant the had work rubbing and scrubbing. Well now you can buy Elbow Grease off the supermarket shelf. I think it’s Poundland I seen it in and bought it to clean the engine bay of my Auris Hybrid last May. It only cost £1, and is very strong chemical, I wouldn’t use it in a confined space! I protected any electrical connections with silver kitchen foil, sprayed an area, gave a scrub with the wife’s toothbrush (well I want going to use mine, was I), then just sprayed water to clean it away, then used paper kitchen towel to wipe dry. The water sprayer I used was a discarded spray you would use around the house ie lower pressure finger trigger spray. Shifted all the oily dirt wasily, then I used a automotive product or leave a shine on plastics and hoses etc.
