  1. Job Done For the record if anyone with a 1AZFE 2000 -2005 UK Rav4 needs to replace their accessory belt tensioner this is how I did it Jacked and supported the car RHS Removed wheel on RHS and wheel arch plastic service cover Removed accessory belt Loosened both tensioner bolts (you need a long 14 ring spanner and extension) Placed a further jack with block of wood under the oil pan to support the engine and removed the three bolts connecting the engine to the engine mount I then dropped the engine carefully as far as it would comfortably go, which was not far about 4cm and the long main tensioner mounting bolt was still adjacent the chassis. However the tilt to the bolt seemed to give enough room to fully unscrew the bolt and easily wiggle the tensioner unit out with the bolt still loose in the tensioner. To reinstall place the bolt in the new tensioner and wiggle it into place . (it was not necessary to remove the spring cylinder from the tensioner for removal or re-installation) Ian

  2. Bear in mind that New Zealand has the same multimedia system as the US and Australia (Entune), which is a different unit to that fitted to European market cars (Touch 2).

  3. I can confirm that the Air con light stays on if you press it, and won't go out until you switch it off, regardless of whether it has cooled ( or warmed) the cabin to the set temperature. Light going off of it's own accord suggests a fault.

  4. May only be affected if a warranty claim arises which is dependent on correct servicing.

  5. Picked my car up today. £120 for the service (not bad) but he only stamped the no 3 box in my service history book, so 1 & 2 empty boxes. Paid another £300 for fixing the damaged wheel and tyre. But at least my car is safe and running perfectly 😃 and remember to put a reminder in my phone for the next one! Thanks for all your comments x

  6. The light going out could also be an indication that there is a fault. In the USA, 2018 Corolla users have reported this, as have other Toyota model owners.Usually indicates the compressor is not firing up. If it is just the switch led, should be easy to fix, but since the Air con does not seem to be working properly in this case, sounds like the system is not firing up.The switches only send a signal to the computer, they don't do any thing physical locally, like they used to in the good old days.

  7. Hi, here we have a brilliant answers given already. I just want to add something. That particular car it’s 7 years old and only 25k miles, this is a warning sign and few more checks needs to be done prior to taking ownership. First it’s to establish if the mileage it’s real, second to double and triple check the service history if the car has all it’s service and if they are done on time, battery health check on both high voltage and 12v battery, in general batteries likes to be in use, leaving battery not used for a long time has negative effects. Check for accidental repair. Good to check all 4 tyres and brakes too, tyres might well be the original one that will require replacement due to their age. Brakes also can get faulty due to the lack of use of the car plus hybrids suffer of rusted brakes more than any other cars. That’s pretty much all of it and the second key if available. Good luck 🚗

  8. Hi, definitely something wrong with the air con. The green light should stay ON all the times when air con is turned ON no matter if the compressor works or not, if there is no gas in then will light up for a,second and goes out, or no light at al and the compressor will not start. When settings are at Low use a thermometer and put it on the vents and readings should be between 4C°to 6C°. You can also ask the dealer to open another Corolla for comparison., only compare at the Lowest settings, not actually temperature like 20-22 or whatever degrees. Good luck 👍

  9. As well as all the above, the driver/journey usage pattern probably has an effect on battery life as much as mileage, and this is very difficult to establish, understandably. Also, by way of further explanation as to the long life of the battery: the car in normal use will generally operate the battery between 45% and 65% of total theoretical battery charge (the whole dash displayed span of the battery charge is actually only 40%-80% of the total theoretical battery charge). This extends the battery charge cycle life enormously, see here:- https://priuschat.com/threads/understanding-nimh-hypercycles-to-prolong-prius-hv-battery-life.64978/ When the batteries (eventually) do give problems, then it is down to one or more cells having different charge/discharge characteristics to all the others. When this goes beyond a certain threshold the car will post a battery error. The failing cell(s) are almost always in the centre of the pack, as these are the ones which run hottest due to the nature of the air cooling. The cells can be removed and replaced separately (not at Toyota), but the 'new' cell works best when it matches the existing cells' charge/discharge performance, or else the battery management will throw another error. That's how I understand it, anyway.. Anything that gets the batteries hot will shorten their life, Toyota have designed the electric assistance so it is never that strong (heat generation!), so as to prolong the battery life. As an example, on another forum there are very occasional posts from hybrid owners who live on the small French island of Réunion, near Madagascar. It is hot and very mountainous. The hybrid batteries last about a third as long as they do here!

  11. I had a similar issue with my wife's Aygo (2009 MK1), purchased s/hand, where the offside rear window defroster tab was missing. After a bit of measuring and investigation I purchased for the following from a US company Frost Fighter: 2315-HCB Uni-Clip Defroster Tab 2000 Frost Fighter Rear Defroster Tab Bonding Kit https://frostfighter.com/product/product-212 https://frostfighter.com/defroster-repair-tab-bonding-kit-2000.htm I used a small portable heater to hasten the curing process for the glue - as mentioned in the instructions. I did this repair about 9 months ago and the tab has not separated and the the rear window defroster works perfectly. I would imagine the metal connector would be a relatively simple job with a 3D printer, but sadly I did not have access to such technology. The glue however is a special electrically conductive silver based expoxy and costs a small fortune ☹️. That having been said, superglue was mentioned as a possibility earlier in the thread - your mileage may vary. hth

  12. Don't see where a member works has anything to do with taking out a service plan. I've used service plans in the past, for other marques as well as Toyota, and for us it suits. Service plans fix your service costs at the time they are taken out, you can also build into the p!an additional items, and you have a set monthly cost over the term of the plan. Using non-franchised garages for servicing during the new car warranty, puts the onus on the owner to prove the car has been correctly serviced should a warranty claim be made, which is dependent on correct servicing having been undertaken. Also non-franchised garages cannot undertake warranty work or recalls.

  13. Well I got the car back yesterday and I can confirm that I now have Android auto installed on the infotainment system. I still need to have phone plugged in, set to file transfer over USB, but the screen doesn't need to be turned on for it to operate, and holding down the talk button on the steering wheel activates Google assistant. Really happy with the upgrade and someone who uses Google to control home lighting and my garage door, it really does make a difference. Worth every cent! VID20200706132635.mp4

  14. That's what it seems to me too. It did that again today. I have the car booked in with the dealer in a few days, hope to get to the bottom of this.

  15. I not got a service plan but my Toyota dealer contacts me re service and then again at MOT time, same with the wife’s Auris. Even with lockdown we were contacted re our services, booked in and a courtesy car provided. To those encouraging get your Toyota serviced by a local garage, that’s fine BUT if the car is still under warranty that “local garage” you use has to be VAT registered and you, the owner, has to be able to prove to Toyota in the event of a warranty claim that parts used meet Toyota standards. Other manufacturers will stipulate similar terms.

  16. I'm contacted, but it might be because I'm on a service plan. I'm usually way ahead of them anyway as I book at least a month in advance. I like my service plan, yes I'm paying some interest, but it gives me peace of mind knowing its paid, so I just need to drop off the car and its done. I cannot use non toyota garages or parts as I've got a warranty on my 20 plate Aygo.

  17. With a weather of around 38 - 40 celcius i keep the ac on at 23 celcius at the eco mode, the cabin cools nicely and the ac doesn't make a lot of noise unless i of course increase the fan speed, it usually takes about 10 seconds for the cabin to cool down

  18. Never had the light from the ac button go off, would be a good idea to check it out.

  19. If the light under the A/C button goes out after a few seconds then that suggests a fault. Possibly low gas. Back to the dealer....

  20. Hi jessie ref corolla engine....i have a few corollas same year/model for parts, so i might have a radiator, will check.....unfortunately the engine i have is knocking as your engine, quite a common issue on the FE type engine, probably down to previous owners not changing the oil when needed, if your engine is running ok apart from the knocking ie not overheating/ using too much oil i would ask around for someone to drop the engine oil sump an check the crankshaft/ big end/ main engine bearings.....if the crank is in good order the engine bearings are not too expensive ie ebay £25/40 per set......a retired old school mechanic would be ideal as they would be used to doing that work, again cambelt kits on ebay are £40/50 and not difficult to fit, any questions email or 07976474772 rgds

  21. The hybrid batteries on Toyota hybrids have an excellent reliability record. After the Toyota warranty expires, if you have an annual Hybrid battery health check (about £45 but free if you have the car serviced at a Toyota dealer) the warranty is extended annually up to 15 years - thats how much faith Toyota puts in its hybrid technology. You be hard to find on any forums Toy. hybrid owners having serius problems with hybrid battery. If an individual cell goes down it can be replalced (by a specialist-its not really a diy job). Remember with a hybrid, you probably driving 50% of the time on battery. This means a car covered say 80,000 miles.....the petrol engine has done 40,000. Add the fact there is no alternator, no starter motor, no clutch to go wrong.....which are all expensive items to repair/replace. How many mpg will and Autis do on a M-Way? As in all driving - depends how you drive. At 70mph max, I would suggest you not going to get less then 45mpg, and perhaps up to 60mpg maybe a bit more. What you do get with a Toyota hybrid - is stress free driving. Acceleration is so smooth, no gears changing even though its "auto (a lot of auto boxes you can still detect gear changing). Toyota hybrid engineering is now over 20 years old......and they got it right first time.

  23. Hi there Rohail, my Estima is a 2002 so couldn't comment on later vehicles or hybrids. Had my car three and a half years only engine fault was an 02 sensor which was a minor problem. I have also had front discs and pads renewed. Not had any gearbox problems touch wood make sure to check transmission fluid it wants to be a nice clear pink colour. If it has a Japanese radio and you want to change it to an English one you might loose your front and reversing cameras something to be aware of some people have had that problem. The 2.4 engine has a timing chain the 3.0 litre v6 has a timing belt. Just like any other car have a good look over it see, if it's been undersealed have a good test drive.

  25. Very likely thats your warranty gone to pot Mary - no up to date service recorded with Toyota (or an approved independent). Now it is important to keep them up to date to protect your investment (your car engine etc)
