Hi , there is nothing weird about behaviour of your cars, that is absolutely normal work of the hybrid system and ecu knows what it’s doing for sureπŸ˜‰ Sometimes may look and feel strange but ice needs to work to maintain temperature and to be ready to start and propel the car at any one moment. In some cases ice works as energy consumer to maintain the charge levels of the traction battery too. There are many more interesting things that will make you wonder why is that through your ownership and this is part of the overall experience. For anything that it’s new to you you may look into Prius forums as basically your cars are exactly the same as Prius gen 4 under the skin. πŸ‘

  2. Primary source of limit information is from the navigation but the TSS camera can also show information in lieu of navigation & override the navigation if it see's a sign to the contrary

  3. If the recall relates to the 2018/19 Corolla, which was the previous generation saloon, the UK never had this model as an official import.

  4. When stationary I would always ensure the handbrake is on. I dont know whether the Corolla has an actual HAND brake, in the Gen3 and Gen4 Prius (had both) the "handbrake" is foot operated.

To be honest i thought i knew quite a bit about the hybrid system or at least me, as a driver, i'd say im quite attuned with the car, for example i can tell when the engine can kick in or i could feel the power threshold of the batteries and that if press the gas pedal even a little bit the engine would kick in. Even though as many have said the system is totally seamless in speed i can still tell when the engine comes in without looking at the rpm's. But there still seems to be a lot that we don't know and don't undestand, this hybrid system of course is extremely complex and even if an engineer that has worked on this system came in he would need a to write a whole book in order to explain everything.

  6. Update July 9. Today the dealer examined the car and concluded: There is a fault in the A/C system. No disagreement that behaviours like the A/C turning off every now and again and delivering no chilled and conditioned air, only ambient, are not normal. In their inspection they noticed traces of oil on a component in the A/C system. They said that shouldn't be there! A full inspection and system testing will take place next week so that they can get Toyota authorisation for repair under warranty. In the meantime don't use the A/C (turn it off), just fresh air. (Hope they fix it before this alleged 30+ heatwave hits us next week.) They'll need my car for a couple of days and will provide a replacement for the duration. So not an ideal situation to have a fault like this in a brand new car, but it happens. What's important to me is how they address it and fix it. The dealer (Jemca in Bracknell) have responded to this very well and I'm impressed with how they have done that. Further update next week. Thanks again for everyone's insights.

  7. Yes, Andru, I can confirm my car does the same. The van has a Garmin portable device, and that also bings and bangs at me to warn I am doing above 50 on that stretch of road. I guess it makes sense to give the Sat nav priority. Many road signs are completely obscured by vegetation at the moment, so if the car relied on the camera, it would probably just keep throwing us the nsl indicator. Not sure what purpose the camera has, if the sat nav over rules it. In the case of the A422, I doubt the camera can see any speed signs, it is so poorly sign posted. I certainly didn't see them until you mentioned it the other day.

  8. It's an electric handbrake, i've never pressed it as it engages when the gearshift is in Park and disengages when in R,D,N.

  9. Guys i am ready for anything so every time i go out i wear a parachute in case the little red button on the gear shift ejects me when i press it. Her indoors while sitting in the passenger seat has a saying which i am getting used to and it goes like this "was it supposed to do that ?" πŸ˜‚

  10. A total delight! The car is solidly built, offers a super driving experience, seats are so comfortable and fit well. Road noise is well below what I expected (and way better than in my previous Ford Focus). The acid test - the M25 between Leatherhead and Reigate. Concrete slabs make up the roadway that give me a headache usually. Not in this car! I have more superlatives 😊 One issue that blurs the otherwise blue sky concerns an A/C fault that is a warranty-repair matter (see thread in this forum). But that doesn't detract from my overall 4-star rating. Aiming to get a pros and cons summary here soon.

  15. If the OP plans on running the car forever then to he honest a service history won't matter. There are 's many cars out there 10+ years old and you'd probably be pushed to find one with a complete history. Even when they say complete history and I know this doesn't apply to aygos ) some cars have never had camber changes. So history isn't complete.

  16. Several seconds isn't very long. Maybe it's running it up to temperature in order to boil off any moisture in the crankcase to avoid the oil getting sludged up.

  17. At least they will get to the bottom of it. Possibly a missing O ring on production or one that just didn't seat well. You'll be glad when it works as great in Winter to demist the windscreen. James

I think the ecu decides that the engine has done it's job in generating the necessary electricity for the battery and then a second or so later decides that the vehicle is going at a speed that the battery can keep up and turns the engine off. I'm guessing the ecu needs a second or so to make the appopriate calculations in order to make a decision.

  20. Nothing specific. I don't even think it even tells you how to trigger EV mode by lifting off the accelerator pedal. If we ever do find an expert I'd also like a detailed explanation of why the blue acceleration guidance line does what it does. Sometimes pulling away it will suggest full ICE acceleration. Other times it wants you to barely tickle the accelerator at first then gradually increase the pressure.

Yes, it happens all the time.There have been a few answers on this site, which include warming up the cooling system so the heater is ready if required, something to do with preparing the brakes (pressurising the hydraulic system, as with a non hybrid, the power brakes don't work unless the engine is running, not so with a Hybrid) , and other things I can't remember now. So the ICE does run when it is not charging the battery or powering the wheels. Basically, the Corolla is more computer than car. It is a shame Toyota don't issue a tutorial on how it works, for those interested owners who take in all the little quirks these Hybrids have. We just have to share information, and speculate on what is happening, much of the time! Unless a technician sees our query on this site and answers.

  23. Most bonnet catches are of the same design. The common problem is that they are at the front of the car and tend to get corroded and stiff/sticky due to road spray etc... Worth checking and greasing every six months or so with white spray grease.

  24. Its 25Nm/18 ft.lb. Replace the washer. With sump plugs I also put a couple of turns of PTFE plumbers tape. That guarantees no leaks. You don't need to fill the filter.

  25. I had this once with the Gen 3 I had, it was overflowing down the breather pipe on to the back wheel. After than I never did a "second click" fill just stopped at the first and it never happened again.

  28. Yes, I grounded the front end in a Devon lane a few days after picking mine up. Sickening! But luckily, it just grazed the bottom of the trim, not visible, Sort of made me realise why there are so many SUV's and 4 x 4's around.

  32. You might notice a difference but think the ride quality is fine. Last Wednesday while picking up bags for my sister-in-law who had been on the HS2 'Rebel Trail' I drove up this lane. The low clearance caused a couple of scrapes on the underside when the wheels dropped into potholes but it wasn't a rough ride overall. Thankfully coming back we took a slightly less primitive route through The Lees but they were still low grade roads and the car was fine.

  33. Hi George, I think you would notice the difference moving from 17-inch wheels to 18-inch ones, depending on the low-profile tyre you choose and probably other factors. I remember when I test drove the Corolla back in January that I was quite impressed with the good ride quality in the Excel HB that I drove. Not as firm and harsh as I thought it might be. That experience was reflected yesterday when I collected my new Corolla. I drove around 80 miles in three separate journeys yesterday and the ride quality and firmness was exactly as I remembered: very good indeed. Even on some of the potholed rural roads in this part of Berkshire, the Corolla gave a ride as good as I experienced with my Ford Focus on 17-inch wheels that weren't particularly low profile by comparison. Different tyre brands though (Michelin) versus Falken on the Corolla. Still, pleasantly impressed with ride comfort on this Excel model with 18 inch wheels.

  34. I like the estate, too, greats specs and a lot for your money when compared to others in the class. For me, though, the hatchback is the one. We don't have kids to transport - they grew up and moved on - just a couple of small grand-kids now and again. So we don't need the space and the back in the hatchback is perfect for small humans 😊 My wife doesn't drive much these days (roads full of loony drivers, she says, and she's not wrong!) so 90% of the time it's just me. I would add that the hatchback is definitely not a good choice if you want to transport more than 2 adults and bags, etc - the TS is a better choice. The HB is a perfect dad or mum taxi for kids (and grand-kids), though.

I so very much agree with you, i have the 17's which look nice (a bit too shiny for me though) but these 18's really make the car look so much better, it makes the corolla look even more sporty than it already is. I'm considering to get these wheels fitted to my corolla as well but i'm worried about the ride quality a bit, seeing that you also have the excel model how would you describe the ride quality? Would i notice any difference when going from the 17's to the 18's?

  37. Nice! I see the hatchback is more popular than the estate on here. I like the estate. For a laugh I looked at Carwow and you can get a new Corolla Icon Tech TS 1.8 hybrid for 26k so not bad for a new 2020 model. Used seemed around 22k so if I had the money a no brainer to go new. James.
