  1. Mowing down pedestrians is part of the fun! 5 points for a 20 year old holding a McDonalds bag, 30 for a Starbucks take away coffee customer! Seriously, you do have to be careful, I am always ultra alert in shopping centre car parks etc, where it is normal for people to just step into the road without looking, anyway. What with the Auto headlights flashing on and off unannounced, so drivers pull out in front of you, it can be a lot of fun out there.

  3. There is a work around. First go to Menu/Setup/Phone and make sure Phone Operation using str-sw is set to "meter." When mine came back from the upgrade, it was set to display. Once that is done...when you have the phone connected by USB using Android Auto there are two scenarios: 1. If Android Auto is displaying on the screen and you hit the phone button on the steering wheel, phone options/numbers appear on the main screen, not above the steering wheel. You have to use the touch screen. No scrolling available using steering wheel controls. 2. If you push the home button, and return to your main Toyota screen, then hit the phone button on your steering wheel, the "behind the steering wheel" display shows, and you can scroll through recents and favourites. This is my my preferred method of using the phone definitely. Good to know it can still be accessed with Android Auto plugged in.

  5. Thanks Tony, I've ordered one now. I'll offer it up to the filter cover before I drain the oil just to be sure 😄

  6. Get a T-piece on the factory oil pressure sensor and run the oil feed from that, that's also how it's done originally. You want a free flowing drain, by tapping the block. Did mine like this

  7. That's not usually the case, John...I think most newbies get a "hello" generally..you slipped the net..lol. Anyway..welcome aboard.

  9. Welcome Graeme. I too am from Cheshire and joined with my 2011 Yaris, just a few days ago. It seems that welcome messages to new joiners are infrequent. It might change or else we can learn to live with it ! Regards John

  10. Which is why electric and hybrid cars with new Type Approval after July 2019 have to be fitted with an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). At low speeds (up to 12mph) sound is played through front mounted speakers to alert people there is a hybrid or electric vehicle approaching. Will be required for all new electric and hybrid vehicles from July 2021. Intended to help blind and visually impaired people, and additionally, those pedestrians who aren't paying attention.

  11. Hi, if your car has the oil filter cartridge like the one shown on the pictures above yes, should fit fine, it’s exactly what you need. This tool also works on non cartridges metal oil filters for some Japanese cars like Mitsubishi Lancer for example.

  12. you need a free flowing drain, if you are using a sandwich plate they are typically not flow and return so you're basically flooding the turbo with oil pushing oil up the return from the turbo tbh you need a better oil feed than from a sandwich plate imho - usually tee'd off the oil pressure switch under the intake manifold a 4 or 5An is all what is needed for the turbo feed and a 10an on the return have a read of the threads on yarisworld forum there are a lot more cars with turbo conversion in the USA (forum is very quite these days tho so done expect an influx of replies)

  13. Yep - that's about right. 40 mph to start, though it will then manage to stay active, sometimes, down as low as 19 mph. Absolutely annoying feature for those of us navigating rural roads..... I had it for a long time on my RAV4s until I cottoned on to the restriction, with my current Prius. It's something to do with some EU countries, if memory serves me correctly, having asked Toyota UK about it.

  14. Hi, Yes , that is normal if you forgot to fill the filter with oil. When you started the engine it was starved of oil for a few seconds while the oil pump filled up the empty filter, the noise you often hear is the valve lifters etc ticking / tapping. It will only happen that once, so nothing to worry about. You can often hear that kind of tapping noise for a few seconds on start up on a very cold morning when the oil is old and thin.

  15. The Corolla has "Follow me home" just pull the light switch as thought you are flashing your lights and they will stay on for a short time, there is not function to make them come on when unlocking the car.

  16. I have not tried it myself, as my drive way has a security light that comes on as I approach. The manual says, switch everything off leaving the headlights on "Auto" ( well we have no option, there is no off switch!), and with the power off , pull the light stalk towards you (as though you were flashing an oncoming vehicle) and release. The headlights will be illuminated for 30 seconds.

  17. I find that as temperatures fall now summer is over, the tyre pressures also fall and this sets off the TPMS. The low profile tyres are prone to this. On a frosty morning the warning will show. By mid day, it's gone, as the temperature rises. As Andru says, it the air bag warning light is showing while you are driving, best get it checked for a fault. Mine shows for about a minute when I set off, but is then extinguished until my next journey. My mobile seems to lodge in their OK, but I don't have one of the new massive ones, it's a trusty Blackberry KeyOne, which seems to be OK. But it is an odd design for a mobile, I agree. Not sure what the mobile compartments are like for the USA where you can have charging plates.

  18. 1) You could be right there. I leave my iPod touch in it so it doesn't matter but access does seem a bit cramped for a mobile. 2) Have you reset the TPMS after inflating your tyres? I forget exactly how but it's via the steering wheel menus. Probably only possible when the engine is off. Have a look around them for anything 'TPMS' related. 3) Sounds like a fault. Talk to your dealer.

  19. I have the 1.33L in the larger Auris and it is excellent on the motorway in 6th gear. I've often mentioned on here that I would take the 1.33L over the 1.8L in my previous car (the very high performance Corolla TSport) because it it so much more refined at speed. The 1.33L in a Yaris is perfect imo.

  20. Hahaha 0-62in 8 seconds, nope if more than 5 it’s rubbish for them😃, auto journalists are clones 95% of them period. Any car can do motorway journeys even the smallest one too. However cars that are more suitable for motorway journeys are slightly larger cars, let say Auris, Golf, Focus and above., simply because they are bigger, heavier and provide more comfortable and safer drive than a smaller class like Yaris, Polo, Fiesta., there is no doubt about it, please take this from a man that does 200+ miles every day on U.K. motorways. Best suited cars are Even one class above for example these are Passat, Corolla saloon, BMW 3 series or Mercedes c class, well obviously not always make sense driving or owning one of these so you use whatever you like, or you have or can afford. Toyota are usually reliable cars and driving your Yaris on motorway will be ok., when the time for changing your car comes and you still doing 90 miles a day my recommendation is to look for something bigger, Corolla hatchback hybrid will be Best Buy imo. Until then enjoy you car and don’t worry to take it to the motorway, cars love motorway journeys. Regards 👍

  21. I have to agree with the others. I've never felt any aches and pains (other than the usual) after a longish drive, Motorway or other. The car sits comfortably at 70mph, where possible, and doesn't sound or feel stressed in any way. Mine is a Multidrive transmission and the engine revs are at 2000 doing 70mph. For getting reliably and safely from A to B there's really not much better. As long as servicing and maintenance are followed then it should give you many years of excellent service. Don't listen to the nay sayers and as Joe writes it will be from, mainly, some numpty motoring "journalist" who will only entertain some boy racer transport! Or someone who has never driven, or even owned one.

  23. I used my 1.3 Yaris frequently for a motorway return trip of 220 miles. Never a problem.

  24. That's simply not true Tania....the Yaris will cope very well...and as a bonus it will be reliable too...unlike many others ypu might choose. You'll soon learn to get the best out of it.

  25. Of course the car will be able to handle it. Where did you read about this car? Some motor journalist review probably, maybe? They are super critical and personally I read them with a pinch of salt. The journalists tend to pour scorn on anything that cannot go 0-60 in under 8 seconds, and the Yaris is far short, and nothing wrong with that. What matters more is what users say and the Yaris has always been a popular car right from the Mk1. It will cruise on the MWay at 70 no doubt, if you get to a long hill you may have to change down from 6th to 5th to keep the revs up and some pep in the engine but that is no big deal. There is a Yaris section on this forum, take a look and see what users think, see what fails reoccur for that year of car, but remember, all cars have heir faults, non are perfect (but a Gen4 Prius is pretty near-but that is my opinion) lol.

  26. No hubs or splitters work with AA/CarPlay. But if you have Spotify on your phone, it will appear as app (icon) in the AA/CarPlay home screen. And you can switch between apps there with no issues like on any pc. Spotify will play background and you will look at Waze on screen. Or Waze will work background and give you audible guidance and you look Spotify screen.
