  2. You had the same experience as I did when I used it on the wife’s Auris hybrid. Put the Suaoki U3 across the battery terminals in the boot, when I got by the time I got into the drivers seat and pressed the start button it was ready to go. That really impressed me. I try to remember to charge the Suaoki every month, especially in the winter months.

  3. My apologies! Credit should have gone to Catlover for the Suaoki recommendation. Thank you.

  4. An update for all who helped me with this original posting last year. I opted to buy a Suaoki U3 as recommended by PeteB, as it was really compact, looked easy to use and competitively priced. Of course, I kept it handy all last winter and never needed to use it! This time (today) I tried to start the car after going away and then being caught out with an additional 2 weeks of self-isolation when the rules changed while we were away. Outside temperature around 12C, so a bit warmer than last year. It was 31 days after the car was last used. It’s last journey was a 2 hour run, so there was a reasonable expectation that the low voltage battery was topped up on that last day. Car was left in the garage, so no need to set the intruder alarm (as mentioned in the discussion above). Interior lights came on, but as soon as the Start button was pressed, everything went blank (all was silent apart from the usual faint ticking from the engine compartment). Pulled out the Suaoki U3. It had over 75% of its charge left after the full charge when I first got it and after being kept unused for around 11 months. Followed the jump start the instructions for the first time and the car immediately came to life as soon as the connections were made (MFD screen, interior and exterior lights, etc). The car started normally as it there was nothing wrong and with no error lights flashing. Disconnected the Suaoki immediately after starting the car, as per the instructions, and then left the car in P mode for 10 minutes (out of the garage!) to allow the traction battery to feed a bit of charge into the low voltage battery. The ICE came on for a few cycles in that time. I decided to use a trickle charger to top it up overnight. So it is looking like: 1. The low voltage battery on my Gen 4 will only last around or just over 3 weeks if the car is left unused. 2. This makes airport parking for any travel longer than around 3 weeks slightly problematic. OK for self-park but not for any ‘meet and greet’ or courtesy services. 3. If in a private garage, any gains from not setting the car alarm may be marginal. I might have got a few extra days by not setting the intruder alarm, but clearly this didn’t make a huge difference. 4. Suaoki U3 worked as it said on the tin (thank you PeteB)! It does not have a trickle charge option, so you can’t use it for that. Any thoughts or ideas for the future would be most welcome. The car is a 2016 model and coming up to its second MOT soon. I’m wondering if this is only to be expected, or whether I should take the opportunity to get a new 12V battery. For example, I wonder how long these cars can be left in a garage forecourt needing to be started.

  6. I ordered mine on (or about) 1st September and picked it up on 28th September. It never made it onto the My Toyota app until after it was on my drive (and then was deleted again but that's another story). Based on what I've read on this forum I wouldn't entirely trust the progress reported by the app. Mine was in Portbury all along - someone else's cancelled order I guess - and it took two or three weeks for Toyota to arrange to pop it onto a transporter and have it delivered to the dealer. Hopefully you are in the same situation and will get it by the end on the month ... Based on the experience of others as well reported on the forum it seems very unlikely that the schedule you've outlined could be realised for a factory order.

  7. 😊 hello I have 2009 yaris eco model. I have had it for 2 years now. The start stop used to work great when I first purchased it. It stopped working when my battery needed replacing,I replaced it and start stop started working again. Then Several months later my clutch needed replacing. When my car returned from the garage, start stop wasnt working. Since then I have took it to different mechanics and even the AA, who recovered me once due to a sensor issue, all have said that this car either doesnt have it or you need to drive it long journeys. But I have done that and it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any inkling to why this is???

  9. Just a year ago I looked for replacement of my old good Subaru Outback - and I was far from satisfaction from the market offer. After a month of searching and discontent I noticed an add claiming that new Corolla TS has got 2.0 hybrid engine with 180 hp, 8 s 0-100 and consumption under 4 l/100 - sci-fi numbers! Test drive proved that this is an exceptional car. It cost a bit more tham I had planned, but I do not regret. And I am looking for every single drive! 🙂

  10. Mowing down pedestrians is part of the fun! 5 points for a 20 year old holding a McDonalds bag, 30 for a Starbucks take away coffee customer! Seriously, you do have to be careful, I am always ultra alert in shopping centre car parks etc, where it is normal for people to just step into the road without looking, anyway. What with the Auto headlights flashing on and off unannounced, so drivers pull out in front of you, it can be a lot of fun out there.

  11. There is a work around. First go to Menu/Setup/Phone and make sure Phone Operation using str-sw is set to "meter." When mine came back from the upgrade, it was set to display. Once that is done...when you have the phone connected by USB using Android Auto there are two scenarios: 1. If Android Auto is displaying on the screen and you hit the phone button on the steering wheel, phone options/numbers appear on the main screen, not above the steering wheel. You have to use the touch screen. No scrolling available using steering wheel controls. 2. If you push the home button, and return to your main Toyota screen, then hit the phone button on your steering wheel, the "behind the steering wheel" display shows, and you can scroll through recents and favourites. This is my my preferred method of using the phone definitely. Good to know it can still be accessed with Android Auto plugged in.

  12. Basically when the thread goes below 3.5-4mm depth the tyres loose the water drainage abilities and becomes prone to aqua planning , however in dry conditions they will work as good as new or even better, quieter than before and possibly more sticky. The better the tyres you have (premium makes) the longer they will work, some tyres almost does not change characteristics through out their life except the the Aqua thing, which means this can be only an issue if you drive regularly on motorways with higher speeds of 60mph and above, after that speeds the vehicles are more likely to loose traction if you hit a deep waters., also the cars with rear wheel drive are more in danger than the one with front wheel drive, these are the safest one, better than 4x4 in rain. The reason why many cars loose traction in heavy rain is exactly these: 1. Deep waters 2. Rear wheel drive 3. High speeds 4. Worn tyres If you interested how all things happen I can explain even further. Drive slower when weather is bad , it’s the safest thing every should do. In Germany for example many Autobahns has no speed limit in dry conditions and 80km/h (50mph) limit when is raining, make sense right. 👍 Btw the Goodyear efficient grip performance 2 in rain are the best, with my winter tyres now despite the car feels better, cold night drive below 10C° going through deep paddles is a bit of non pleasure., with the efficient grip no problems at all. 😉

  13. It could be. I need to check. But still this is quite radical workaround for just the particular example I used. Not working if you just want to fine tune the volume level... So another example - driving during the day with loud music - I need nav guidance also loud to be able to hear it, so it is set like that. A bit later night comes, my family fell asleep at the back, I lower the music not to disturb them and suddenly bang - TURN LEFT AFTER 200 METERS...

  14. New problems (found so far): 1. When I first plugged my phone, it asked if I want to connect CarPlay once or always. But obviously this is not working, as I am very frequently receiving the same popup, and even I always select to allow it always, it comes back next time I start the car and connect the phone. 2. Toyota online services are not activated automatically and car does not connect to internet over Bluetooth from phone on every start as before. Now when I try to check traffic, parking places or fuel prices, it says that I am not connected. The worst thing is that I can get message if I want to connect only on weather forecast. So for example if I want to check cheapest gas station nearby, first I need to open weather, on popup to connect select yes, wait a long time to show the weather, then go back and check the gas prices... 3. The message to hold back the wheel when adaptive cruise is used with active lane assist is muted. Before, there was a sound notification when you are required to hold the wheel, now only icon on the dash. The only sound is at the end, when the system is deactivated and the car already may be leaving lane with no corrections anymore. 4. When AA/CarPlay is connected, audio directly switches to music inside AA/CarPlay. But maybe I want only navigation and continue listening to the radio... 5. After disconnecting AA/CarPlay audio is always off instead of just going back to radio or whatever was playing before AA/CarPlay. 6. I was not able to find anywhere a setting for voice volume of Google Maps/Waze audio navigation guidance. And it is really loud. 7. By default when you press phone button on steering wheel, phone app on the center console opens instead of the phone in digital cluster. Yes, you can change it deep into settings, but who would want the new behavior that requires you to move you sight from road and the need to move hand from wheel and interact with the screen...?

  15. Buying cheap tyres is never a good idea to my mind. Tyres are the only thing ensuring that your car goes where you want and stops when you want.

  16. Yes, this is Waze. I prefer it because of the large numbers of users that report in real time traffic, accidents, hidden police and cameras and so on. I like also the displayed speed limit. If I have to compare it (or any navigation app in CarPlay/AA), I would prefer the built in Toyota navigation. Main reason is the integration with HUD and the screen in front of the wheel. You don’t have this with any other. But where I live, Toyota navigation does not support traffic so route calculations with it are always incorrect...

  17. NEVER remove the front badge/emblem, the one on the grille, it forms part of the lidar/pre collision system 👍

  18. Having had my car for 7 months, I finally plucked up courage to use the self parking system. Although it seemed to go ok, if a little fast for my liking, so I feathered the brake. Too late however and the rear made contact with my garden wall. I won't be using it again!
