  1. Cyclops is not available on MM17/MM19 as fitted to Corolla Street view see page 217 of manual attached Weather see page 218 Parking see page 219 Fuel see page 220. Toyota intended to go it alone with their own bespoke in car setup based off "Smart device link" see HERE, however customer demand meant a switch and the introduction of Apple carplay / Android auto put a stop to Toyotas own system meaning no bespoke APPS, cars with MM19 already installed do not have SDL and MM17 car being upgraded to MM19 will have SDL removed, the estore remains as it is the portal back from your head unit to Toyotas server but will never be expanded upon further as AA/CP now provide the services Toyota intended to provide via SDL OM12N39E.pdf

  2. Until fairly recently the Hybrid Health Check (HHC) could be done separately to a service - for example for cars outside the new car warranty one could have a service done outside the dealer network, and then pay for an HHC to extend the hybrid battery warranty. However, earlier this year Toyota incorporated the HHC into the service and renamed the service Hybrid Electric Service, and the HHC is no longer available as a standalone check. I suspect that the service is logged as a Hybrid Electric Service. In the UK, for cars sold originally by Toyota GB and under five years of age, the hybrid battery is covered by the 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty. After the new car warranty has expired, each Hybrid Electric Service will extend the hybrid battery warranty by 1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and the hybrid battery warranty may be thus extended up to the vehicle's 15th birthday.

  3. I would say the service book info would suffice, as when part exchanging a car now, due to data protection, all the accepting dealer would be interested in is the service book being stamped and up to date. Having said that, it would do no harm to contact the Toyota Portal to ask for the entry to be updated.

  4. Hi the intermediate service is 10,000 miles the Hybrid health check is done as well at the same time at no extra cost .If you need to change anything on the Toyota Portal you have to contact them provide proof of the error and after a few weeks they will change any incorrect information on the site .I have had to do this on every service for incorrect mileages/service information and recall work done .

  5. Don't worry about your age. Sad there are no safe cycle routes where you live. I am lucky and have loads of cycle routes, that keep me away from traffic. I can ride to the centre of London with minimum conflict with traffic, especially close to the river Thames, from Belvedere. In recent months I am doing between 217 - 254 miles a month. nearly as much as my car. Be safe and well.

  6. That was my previous car. I haven't looked at doing it with the Toyota. I did think about replacing the interior lights but then saw a video posted here that implied it required a degree in engineering.

  8. Got mine on eBay 9 led ones they are called 501’s error free. prize the lens out from the moulding the end towards the rear of car I used a trim tool but you could use a small screwdriver push it in to release the clip if you are going to use a screwdriver I would recommend you wrap a bit of rag round the shank or kitchen towel so as to not damage the plastic trim then gently lever it down there is a black plastic cover over the bulb which just pulls off disconnect the light from the cable as the bulb gets hot then pull the bulb out it’s quite stiff.

  9. 20k for a small car is a tad expensive to say the least.

  11. Konrad, I am 73 now. Back in my youth I was a very keen cyclist. In 2013 I bought a used cycle because I live on the edge of lovely countryside so thought I would enjoy it at a slower pace. I also live next to a main A road, at the bottom of a hill with a 50 speed limit - but not a lot adhere to that. As I went out on my bike, dodging potholes and grids with vehicles wizzing past at more the 50 very often, it put the wind up in me. Iwas nervous, such that I was not enjoying it, so I gave up and sold the bike some time later.

  12. Well Konrad, I am 73 now but back in 2014 I bought a used bike off fleabay. In my teens I used to race cycles so used to cycling. High mileage cars will probably be reps or taxis, move on, pay a bit more for alow mileage model. However, dont forget a hybrid runs on battery a lot of the time, mine is about 50%, so the engine has only revolved for hals the mileage on the clock. Remember also a hybrid will and does hold its price. We had the Auris Hybrid 3 years now and I still see adverts for similar age with similar mileage at little moree then I paid for it 3 years ago. Diesel prices are dropping like a stone, hybrids are wanted so command a higher purchase priice, burt also a higher selling price. Service of Totota vehicles are 10,000 miles or annually, whichever comes sooner. Look for a complete service schedule at main dealer, and the hybrid battery will have been tested annually too, and with it a firether 12 month warranty on hybrid battery.....m up to 15 years. Match that any where.

  13. Hi, when we talk about Toyota the engine choice of mine will be the hybrid one. Much better drive, more reliable, easier to maintain and cheaper on the parts, no dpf, no clutch, dual mass flywheel, no fuel filters, no injectors, no trouble. Consumption wise they will be very similar, 50-60mpg however if you do more town driving the hybrid will do better but even on motorways still be as good as diesel or even better. The only negative is the problem with catalytic converters theft, protecting the cat with plates and de badging the emblems plus some other tricks can help. I will never try another diesel Toyota except if it’s Land cruiser. 👍

  14. Just double check you haven't got the headlight level switch in the lowest position. The headlights can seem ineffective if they are set low.

  15. I had a Golf Mk7 GTD latest version and switched to the Hybrid 2l GR sports and the car is definitely noisier both road exhaust and gearbox operation but not to the extent it s irritating. However road noise can be mitigated by changing the terrible stock tyres(Falken) the car comes with or go for the Exel model which has improved soundproofing. The car has major plus points which outweigh the other irritations 1. Handling superior to VW (in my opinion e.g. negligible roll in corners)) 2. Cheaper to run 3 Car is far more responsive than the Golf to throttle etc ( probably because of CVT box) 4. Superior lighting 5. More comfortable too drive 6. HUD is a big boon ( not in Exel models). Anyway no car is perfect but some are better than others and Toyota are nearly there.

  16. Thanks Timmon! 70 miles in so far, and very impressed! Here’s a few photos, most of the MY21 tweaks are internal. Note the blue lighting, seat trim, and knurled-effect on the silver dash & front door trim.

  17. Morning, Road noise is one of my bugbears and when I got my Excel I thought and still think there’s a bit too much of it on rougher surfaces. The Excel does have acoustic side glass and it’s pretty effective at blocking out noise outside, also the Excel has different wheel linings than other specs designed to minimise noise from the road (stones etc. ) and this works well in my experience. I’ve thought about changing the tyres and I probably will switch to Michelin’s when mine get a bit more worn, I can’t imagine that it will make that much difference overall though - it’s more likely to be the low profile side walls sending the noise up into the chassis. it’s quiet around town but on rougher sections of motorway (70 mph) my phone db says it can get up to about 76db (don’t know how accurate that is) but I’ve used the same app with a lot of cars and it’s only a couple quieter than my last Yaris Hybrid and similar to my old beloved 2005 Corolla. I think part of the problem is that there’s very little noise coming from anywhere else! Plus there’s a really big difference between the noise on smooth tarmac and rough, making it much more obvious - Low profile tyres apparently. I think the Golf is one of the quietest cars in the class so I’d agree that maybe the Corolla might drive you mad but give one a try but get onto quicker roads with it. I’d be interested know what you think. Autocar ran an Excel identical to mine on a long term and they loved it - saying that it was refined and good for motorway work. Look it up 😊 I'm in a lot of different cars for work and reckon the Corolla is about average, a lot of bigger wheeled Golfs and BMWs have a harder ride and more noise in my opinion, I did a lot of driver training in an Astra with 17’ wheels and that was fractionally louder than mine.

  19. Hi, I had this with my RAV; I replaced the battery, replaced the starter, heat shielded the starter and cleaned all the electrical terminals (in that order). The first three masked the problem to some extent but in the end I think the main thing that sorted it was cleaning the electrical connections. I do quite high mileage so I've done approx 5k miles in that time with plenty of hot starts and it's not recurred once. The first connection between the negative terminal on the battery and chassis is easy to find, the cable is only about 6 inches long and you just need to unbolt them and clean with wire brush or similar (I also took the paint off the chassis to help the connection as I think it relied on the bolt). One day I'll pop a little battery paste on them connections to prevent corrosion. The second cable is found under the air filter box and it's a hose connector and three bolts to remove this., Underneath you'll find another cable and you need to clean it up as before. I'd start with that as it's free and takes about 30-45mins. Good luck!
