  1. Journalists always say that the fiesta is more fun, blah blah. . . The Whatcar reliability survey for this generation of Yaris placed it right at the top, and under the heading of ‘what went wrong’ the answer was: NOTHING. As for road noise, I don’t think it’s excessive, and certainly better than the Aygo. Tyre choice is a major factor - I’m quite happy with the GoodYears on ours. if you do a lot of motorway driving, I’d recommend retrofitting cruise control - you can buy a stalk on eBay for under £20, it’s an easy DIY retrofit too. Did this to our 2015 1.33 and it’s made motorway journeys much easier.

  2. Bingo. Your car is not talking to the server. The next thing to check is the entries in your car as it is clear that the problem is not the App.

  3. The same as John re m'ways. My Yaris has the original make of tyres, fitted like for like, Dunlop something, and at 70mph there is very little noise from either the road surface or engine (1.33l petrol). On less than good road surfaces there is some road noise and the engine can be bit raucous if revved hard! No wind noise at all, any speeds. I find the ride very comfortable as well as the seats. Never suffered from any aches and pains on a long journey either. As John also hints at, the nay sayers have most likely never owned a Yaris or driven one for any great length! Quite probably not to their taste because it doesn't 0 - 60 in 5 seconds, very reliable and mundane (in their opinion).

  4. Below 12V is definitely no good, that is an absolute. Once you reach around 11.80 volts then that pretty much signals fully discharged. Some figures quote a bit lower but either way it is right down at the wrong end of the spectrum. Although I have no experience with the Hybrids it would be reasonable to expect a fully charged and healthy battery to still be capable of operating everything after several weeks... that's definitely not an unreasonable design goal. If you are seeing a fully charged battery dip in voltage as quickly as yours seems to do then either there is a significant current drain and/or the battery is faulty. Also a high and constant current drain would soon cause deterioration of a good battery if it meant the battery was in a very low state of charge for most of the time. Maybe time to have a word with Toyota and get the official line on this.

  5. I think the rear seat space on the Yaris is excellent - there’s more headroom than in my 2020 Corolla. And the flat floor offers more foot space too.

  7. Hi, I agree about the reviews online especially those from journalists, they are simply clones that even many of them don’t know anything about cars, any cars. For the Yaris I can’t comment as I never had one or been using one, however I had Polo, Corsa, and Fiesta for a while and I can say these three really drives well, especially the Polo and Seat Ibiza, I guess Yaris won’t be way behind but polo specifically gives you that big car felling in a small car, very well sound proofed and suspension set is perfect. I think Yaris will be a good choice too, it’s also very roomy inside while polo it’s not. In case of any road noise issue a good set of quality tyres can help a lot. 👍

  8. It is the actual measured voltages that are of interest. 12.47 volt for a battery that has recently been 'on charge' is just about a realistic figure if a little on the low side, particularly if things like courtesy lights and so on are on. 12.17 volt I would consider quite low tbh. Now is that because the SOC (state of charge) is just low to begin with or does it point to another problem such as current drain from somewhere. 30 minutes driving time wise is not enough to recharge a low battery, and even more so if the charge into the battery is current limited by design to prevent overheating and extend battery life. So a few unknowns here. So if the car hasn't seen much use over an extended time period of weeks and months then the SOC will gradually fall away and not be fully replenished by short amounts of use. The results is a downward curve on the overall charge level. Recharging must be done with a proper charger that will not overcharge the battery and it may take 24 or hours or more to fully do this. Only when you have a known starting point (an assumed 100% fully charged battery) can you then a make a determination as to whether there is a problem.

  9. sorry, I know it has been ages since the last post but just to fill the blanks in,. there is a coolant drain plug fitted into the engine block just under the water pump that allows you to drain the remaining coolant. The tightening torque for this is 20NM A new copper washer if you want to replace the old is p/n 90430-12025.

  10. My iQ 1.0L clutch went at 110K miles a month ago and had to get tow back home by RAC, I had to get mobile mechanic as another tow to garget was costly and needed it repaired quickly. I Found Williams mobile clutch service on youtube and saw they have worked on iQ's before they quoted me £475 and I paid £50 deposit to get it booked in, Some garages were cheaper but I weighed up towing costs and made sense to go with Williams. They are based in Bedford and I am in London. On the day Kevin contacted me prior to arrival with ETA and when he arrived got to work took about 2-3 hours and job was done, showed me the old clutch and i witnessed him installing new clutch. My car now doesn't have that horrible vibration and works as new . If you go to you tube and search Toyota iQ clutch they have a video of them carrying out the repairs, and you can see what needs to be done. Hope this helps. Just to add I have no affiliation with William's mobile clutch service, just my honest experience with them

  11. Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately a test drive isn't an option due to restrictions. My previous car was a Hyundai i10 so it's hard to imagine the Yaris being any worse in terms of refinement. As you say car reviews can't really be relied upon. On the small hatchback class they just compare every car to a Fiesta.

  13. Hi Tony.I always ignore reviews except from the owners of the vehicle I want. My Yaris is on good tyres with a 55 profile and standard suspension. It is a small car that can be noisy on poor surfaces. On smooth surfaces and on Motorways it is fine. Take one out on an extended test drive when you can.

  14. navger I have a suspicion. Can you start with the initial screen? When I open the App it starts with Dashboard. It then displays the fuel state as a percentage. The section below that shows car location. Below that Car data with total mileage and then the car specification and finally car service overview. Do you have fuel and mileage displayed correctly?

  15. The car starts on petrol and when the engine reaches a certain temp (40-60) switches to gas automaticly. You can also switch to petrol any time with the switch from inside the car. In the picture below you will see the vaporiser and the switch

  16. get a few oil filters and just fill with the cheapest oil you can find , run it for a couple of days and drain it , keep doing it until it stays clean looking , diesel spec oil has more cleaning additives yes you can get stuff like seafoam that you spray into the inlet , this wont clean the oil system , only the inlet tract /valves etc another thing you can do is drain the oil , then over night put about 2ltrs of parafin into the engine , this will soak the sump and hopefully clean it up a bit...drain and refull with oil then repeated oil changes to get rid of it

  17. Had mine done last year from a independent local garage all in quoted about a days worth of labour ~6 - 8 hours and cost me £430 for the 1.0l IQ to get it replaced.

  18. It can actually, you can check by removing the oil filer cap and look inside the engine any signs of dark red - brownish like on the metal parts, also oil dipstick if it has same formation. Check if air filter is new, “serviced” sometimes means just a new oil or perhaps not even that. Best to check yourself everything again. You can also use some petrol injector cleaner, helps a lot with cleaning and general performance. Once all that checked you can take it for a run , no need to drive fast or trashed out, just longer drive 1-2 hrs. 👍

  19. When was it last serviced, and what is the service history like? As regards Carplay your head unit won't be compatible. The only way is to replace the head unit with one from the post facelift Aygo from mid 2018, but be aware you need the head unit with three buttons on rather than the two. There are a couple of previous topics on this.

  21. The weather is warmer now so i got the car open. I don't know what will happend next week when it's expected to go below 0 again... I have now blown the lock with compressed air to the best of my ability. Sprayed internally with 5.56 lubricant. Sprayed the outside of the lock with lithium grease. I also put the 5.56 pipe into a small hole in the door at the latch and sprayed some. Don't know if that will do anything but yeah.

  22. Konrad C. Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to find the pictures it is appreciated and will be kept for reference 👍 But being a lazy sod, I took Yossarian247’s advice and turned the dial rather energetically and it worked 🤗🤗🤗 Thank you 🙏

  23. The problem is enforcement. Current legislation requires scrap metal dealers to be registered, details on scrap they buy to be recorded, and for these records to be inspected. Local authorities are supposed to enforce this legislation, and a lot don't due to budget constraints, etc. If the sale of second hand cats were to be made illegal, guess who would be required to enforce the legislation? Local authorities.
