  1. Season 1, Episode 5 - at last, the season finale! πŸ˜€πŸ‘ The call came this afternoon - "your car is ready!" I've been to collect it, they've filled it with petrol and cleaned it inside and out, and it is now sporting a little led inside, a plate underneath and a couple of new window labels announcing it has a catloc to hopefully deter any tealeaves. Apparently the new alarm is very loud, but I hope never to hear it.And I've registered the new catloc - it's not an insurance scheme, but they've security marked the cat so I have registered that. I enjoyed my drive home and I'm glad to have my own car back. I'm just looking forward, as I'm sure we all are, to being able to take it out for a drive for pleasure. πŸ‘

  2. Just read that 2 cat thieves in the Warrington, Cheshire area have been sentenced to 30 months and 32 months in the Nick. Suppose they be out in half the time, but some justice.

  7. I’ve got a 2021 Model Year Design TS, with the upgraded interior & wheels. I test drove the previous MY, but as the link above suggests there are no changes highlighted to suspension or drivetrain, it’s purely cosmetic / tech.

  10. Got a brand new Yaris Hybrid for the day yesterday as a courtesy car and have to say I was sort of sad to hand it back. Did nearly 100 miles of mixed town / short motorway and dual carriageway. Around town in the Traffic light grand prix Its great fun, felt much quicker and nimbler than my Corolla TS and yet still returned mid 60's MPG overall. I kept it steady for one 30 mile stint and showed 74 mpg which I thought was great, especially given the 2C max temp yesterday. Think it was a Design spec but with the panoramic roof as an extra. I suppose the downside is the cost, Β£22,000 in that spec which does seem a lot for a small town car. I remember having a Yaris for a day a few years back and at the time thought it pretty awful, things have definately moved on

  13. So the conclusion........................... The Auris and Yaris switches look identical but the Yaris one does not have the LED's or resistors on the PCB 2 terminals (pigtails) and the Mk2 Auris switch was all that was needed

  14. Decided to measure my 12v battery today. Car haven’t been used for two day. On the first attempt after I unlocked the car and removed all my stuff from the boot to access the battery I got stable 12.27V , then I started the car and kept in ready mode for 40 min I measured during that time showed charging at 14.74V then after I switched off the car quickly measured again showed 12.95V and voltage starts dropping, went down to 12.61V stable after around 2min. I believe I have the oem battery, at least look like it and I never changed during my ownership of over 5 years. That’s some numbers for reference if anyone measure theirs.

  18. To simulate gear changes, some people (insert boy racers) think paddles make it some sort of manual, controllable gear change (it doesn't) and is a popular gimmick

  19. Extracted from a Toyota Europe article: "Multidrive S Transmission Multidrive S is Toyota's highly-advanced Continuously Variable Transmission system. Delivering an infinite number of ratios through two cone-shaped pulleys and a high-strength steel belt, Multidrive S offers an incredibly smooth, seamless driving experience. Because the Multidrive S transmission maintains the most efficient engine rpm at any given vehicle speed, it combines low cruising-speed noise with low CO2 emission and high fuel efficiency, yet can also maintain the ideal ratio to deliver peak engine power for maximum performance. Multidrive S also features a sequential, manual 7-speed mode, with gear selection performed either by the gear shift lever or steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts." As regards advertisements describing cars as CVT's, at the end of the day Multidrive S is a CVT, so that is correct, and paddle shifts may or may not be mentioned.

  25. Lol, Toyota Original Series Season 1 Episode 5 , new episode ever day🀭 Sorry I am just entertained by the way your have presented your saga., otherwise I feel sorry for you. If not ready by tomorrow you can suggest to them a new 2021 plug in hybrid in the same colour can do it and they can keep your one, no need to worry about refuelling it as you can charge at homeπŸš—πŸ‘

  26. We are members of a large American 'warehouse' company that has lots of stores here in the UK and it doesn't Cost a lot to join the Co mpany if you fit the criteria for membership. I recently bought a full set of Goodyear Vector 4 seasons for ours. It worked out at about Β£50 per tyre fitted etc. There is nearly always an offer on, featuring a specific major brand of tyre and it works out far cheaper than buying from anywhere else. I could have waited a month and got Michelins, but hey, to run around town, the Goodyears are doing the job fine.

  27. Season 1, episode 4 It's not ready. The parts haven't come. They're going to fill my petrol tank up by way of apology (it had about a quarter of a tank) and hopefully it will be ready tomorrow. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever see that car again....

  29. And I welcome you to season 1, episode 3 of the saga of my catloc! I got a call today from the Aftersales Manager at the dealer. She told me that she's been fully briefed on what has been going on with my car (should have referred her to this forum!) Apparently they've removed the catloc and ordered a new fitting kit as when they fitted it first time it wasn't "guided in correctly" (this sounds like made up technobabble for they didn't fit it properly and wondered what all those leftover bits were for). She was very grateful for my patience, she is personally overseeing the job now and the workshop foreman is personally supervising the work and can she leave me with in the courtesy car until tomorrow. To be honest I'm fine with that, we're in lockdown, I'm working from home and there's nowhere I can go - the car hasn't moved since I got home on Friday. And I'd rather they took it off and started afresh with new fittings rather than try and bodge it. So I've not been grumpy with them - I have the loaner if I need it and their communication at least has been good (a lot better than their quality control) - I'm just surprised that it has turned into such a saga. I'm hoping that we can have the series finale tomorrow and I'll get my car back - but who knows? It's all been excitingly unpredictable so far.

  30. I don’t think is a fault, just do it manually, I always switch off all auto functions when park the car and before turn off the stop button.

  31. Same here, a Pepsi can away from the car does the job for me, these days almost everywhere temperatures will stay negative even during the day, don’t forget to run your car for 60min, I definitely will even though I had a good drive on Saturday. β„οΈπŸš—πŸ‘

  32. Well, it might very well be OK like that, but the advice is once at 60 mins. If you did it for 30 mins, and then a good run, then I suspect also that would be OK, but if possible, follow the advice

  33. I'm not the best person to answer this in any detail, it's just a superficial impression based on brief experience of loan cars, and I'm always comparing with my Prius. I certainly haven't experienced the issues on your list. However, when I had the previous model I was conscious that it felt a bit noisy and sluggish compared with mine. I particularly noticed that it seemed to rev quite high, and that the engine seemed to run a lot more than mine does in the Prius. The new one seems to spend more time on electric (I always leave them on normal or eco, I don't use EV or power mode and I don't try to force it) and when the engine does run it doesn't seem to rev as high - it makes a big difference to the feel of the car. It seems very responsive as well, which wasn't how the old one felt to me. I can't really give you any more detail than that because I haven't spent long enough behind the wheel of either to do more than gain an impression - but if you were thinking of replacing yours at some stage it's certainly worth a look and an extended test drive to see if they've done anything about the issues you've identified on your current car.

  34. If the battery has been changed recently, the ECU may forget it's idle settings. I had this problem after replace the battery recently. It idled so low that it even stalled. I used a procedure to relearn the idle, once the engine had warmed up. The procedure is - warm engine and everything off (heater fan, lights, radio etc.) Press and hold brake pedal, then turn key to IGN - don't start! Wait a few secondsthen turn off. Still pressing the brake pedal and start the engine, letting it idle for 3 to 5 minutes, still pressing the brake pedal. The engine will learn the idle much faster. Give it a try, as I used it also reduce the high idle speed too! I checked your other post and you have the same 1.8 2ZR-FAE that's in my car. I have Techstream, but used the technique above.
