  1. Had a weeks holiday in Somerset last week. Covered 437 miles, about 170 of those miles were on the motorway. Filled up yesterday evening and the car recorded a consumption of 69.9. Put in 29.3 litres which actually works out at 67.7 MPG. I'm happy with that.

  2. Thought I would update this very old thread. We still have the Auris, coming up on 8 years old and with only 17k on the clock. As you’d expect, she’s been faultless. Has been on second car duties for the last 7 years, hence the low mileage, but still a much loved member of the family. She’s had four driveway companions in that time, without question I’ve been more attached to the Auris than any of them. Helps that both of our children made their first journeys home from hospital in her. Staggeringly, at almost 8 years old WBAC would still give me 40% of the original invoice price back for her. The current value is well I’m excess of the GFV that I cleared in 2016.

  3. That’s right , you have to find first what is wrong and what had caused the issue. Blueprint are best make for aftermarket for Japanese cars, very often problems solvers. If poor workmanship had caused the issue then it’s not the spare part but if it’s the spare part you may make a claim even directly with them, they are Surrey based company. 👍🇬🇧

  4. I know! Keeps it cleaner, rubber seals don’t deteriorate as quickly, and you don’t need to defrost it in winter. I love my garage!

  5. My trip up to North Wales and back averaged 69 including driving to several golf courses. Right now the dash is saying about 72 so probably 67. Sure does like the warm weather. Actually thinking about the trip there were a couple of times coming down hills that I got all five bars of the battery filled in. She was very keen to drive on battery only in that condition.

  6. Yeah mine is a tight fit. I had to remove a shelf rack at the far end so that I can get her far enough in for the front door to clear a side pillar otherwise I wouldn't be able to get out. I also have to fold the mirrors. In theory she'd clear the door pillars without but it'd be a matter of millimetres. And of course the racket she makes as I drive her in...

  7. Me too, I don't like the black/dark headliner in the Corolla. Couldn't afford one, so bought an Auris with sort of an off white/grey headliner. The dark liner makes the car very dark inside. I like a light interior. Like the Trek model as lighter seats and good spec. Wish Toyota did more interior colour/seat/leather options. James.👍

  8. I regularly hose out the wheelarches to reduce/prevent the build up of road dirt

  9. +1 for not liking dark headliner, makes the car interior too dark.

  10. Not just you David. Coming from the Astra Sports Tourer where the headliner is very light coloured, the Corolla I first sat in felt very enclosed due to the headliner being so dark. During the test drive I can't say as I felt so enclosed so I was probably to busy concentrating on my first automatic to think about headliner colours.

  11. About 8years ago I was after a BMW 3 series. First one I looked at was an estate - with black roof lining. I thought I don’t like sitting here, if I nod off someone may think I popped my clogs and lay me out in the back.

  12. People are tired from Prius and also ev’s are now the coolest toys to have😂 but Prius for me remain the best car with ice that money can buy. Tesla model 3 currently replaces Prius as it was back in 2010-2017 and these two are most often seen cars in any London streets and junctions. I drive through every day, Prius is still the dominant car 🚗 👑 and model 3 is next. Hyundai and kia are also largely used and very popular.

  13. Hi Andrew, Thanks for the video, I not seen that one before, taught me a lot. I got a Gen4 Prius 2016, the one in the video is the newer Gen4 and doe even more mpg I hear. Brilliant car, highly underrated for some reason. My Prius is coming up 5 year old. Today I washed then give it a polish with Williams Waterless Wash and Wax. Working opposite my drive were Openreach, cutting a trench in the road to install high speed fibre. They were very considerate by watering the tarmac to keep the dust down whilst cutting the tarmac (probably to cool the cutting blade). One guy shouted across, put his thumbs up and said it looks brand new in a showroom. It’s the Hypersonic Red that was featured in the Prius brochures.

  14. So those of you that like the size of the Avensis your choice of a younger vehicle lies with Prius, Prius PHEV, Corolla TS (estate), Corolla saloon, or Auris TS estate. All these are hybrid but basically similar wheelbase as Avensis was.

  15. Another garage fan here, but also find it a close fit for the Corolla. Precision parking is a must have skill! I love having a cool car to get into in summer and a frost free start in winter. Reassuringly more secure too. I am definitely the oddball in my road, though. Nobody else uses their garage for their car around here! 😅

  16. The DVSA recall checker does have some detail on what recalls are for - https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall Currently 2 recalls are showing for 2020 Yaris (which may include the previous generation) - one for the rear centre seat belt and one for a headlight fault. None for 2021 Yaris. Couple of things to bear in mind re recalls is that 1). the system relies on owners to report issues 2). if there are enough reports an investigation is launched with the manufacturer - if not, then the matter isn't investigated 3). only safety issues are considered for recall action 4). until a couple of years ago, recalls weren't announced until the manufacturer had sufficient replacement parts, etc to begin the recall. However, now DVSA announce recalls as soon as it is decided this action is appropriate, regardless of whether the manufacturer actually has the parts to undertake the recall. 5). if a recall is announced, DVSA get DVLA to supply owner addresses to enable the manufacturer to make contact re affected cars. For issues which either aren't safety related or which haven't been investigated, the manufacturer may address the issue through service bulletins or similar via the dealer network. This is where owners aren't formally written to, and issues are picked up through servicing, etc. An example of how manufacturers handle issues differently is when the Joint Venture which made the Aygo/C1/107, found that on some cars a front cross member was of too thin a metal. Toyota corrected the issue on affected cars at the manufacturing plant, and PSA dealt with it through their dealer network as part of their service bulletin system.

  19. If you have a driveway or garage you can prolong the life of your 12v battery by using a CTEK battery charger, as it reconditions the battery as well as charges it. I’d suggest you could get 10yrs out of a good 12v if ‘maintained’ with one of these. At £60(ish) they are cheaper than a replacement battery and work on all cars (even EVs - they have 12v batteries too!) https://www.tayna.co.uk/battery-chargers/ctek/mxs5-0/?gclid=CjwKCAjwn6GGBhADEiwAruUcKtCKQIvgUpvImQaQ-OUQR8SPH5Z6qM7C5G3m5Ul4jYWW1nYssCgOnBoCD4UQAvD_BwE

  20. As Tony suggests, a second opinion would definitely be beneficial. £550 + sounds expensive too (depending on if it's front only or front + rear and what make of brakes they would use). Regards

  21. For you that may be worth it, however for my case I don't believe it would be. I know you get far worse MPG than me, and the £400-£600 injectors, even if the test found one or two to be sub-par, it wouldn't be worth me repairing or replacing them! However for general knowledge I would definitely be interested in hearing/ seeing the results, so please let us know!

  22. Very similar to the mileage I get, however I'd ignore any pump to pump figures, it's hit and miss at best. The ultra accurate fuel metering, distance recorded comparison from the car itself, is far more precise! 😉

  23. The only three version above have sensors in the handle, the rest you will need the remote to unlock and lock the car. This extra is so useful, once you have the key fob in your pocket that’s it, no need to take it out, minimising the risk of loosing it.

  24. That’s a good figure 👍 I am rocking at 60mpg 59.4 to be precise and my dash calculates dead on correct. Mostly motorways journeys within speed limits or slightly below, no cruise control. 👌

  30. Yeah i really love the car. It's pretty quick, reliable and has decent fuel economy. However it has a serious drinking problem, namely the fuel goes bye bye when you're having fun 😄 haha

  31. Welcome to the forum... and don't worry, people on here are generally civilized and reasonable. ☺️ I think you will most likely find this option Is NOT available by default and not a user configurable item. However it CAN be enabled by the dealer who can change the relevant software setting for you. I've had it done on my 2019 Corolla and it was free of charge. So I suggest you give your dealer a bell and ask if they can do this when they take delivery of the car. It's a 2-minute job. PS. Oops. Just noticed your mention of "smart entry". The option I spoke of relates to the key fob buttons enabling the universal window opening facility. I don't know about keyless entry if that is what you are getting. Perhaps someone else can answer the keyless question.

  32. Not in this case as the oem fitment is a halogen bulb There are only a few E marked led bulbs on the market and these are for cars with oem led's and are not cheap, circa £80 each

  33. Thanks for that Bob, Yes I have the H4 set up.

  34. Frosty said " LED daytime running lights are legal. Aftermarket LED headlight bulbs need to be E marked" As I said in my first post. The other point I said 'possibly' as it might not be physically possible.
    1 point
  35. LED daytime running lights are legal. Aftermarket LED headlight bulbs need to be E marked, and since early 2021 if fitted into headlights which are designed for halogen bulbs, will fail the MOT.

  36. Keep them, would be nice if colour matched but they not. Protect yourself from others knocking you car. Even if you park on a quite part of a shoppers car park, well away from any one else, there’s a strong chance some nut will park next to you. There’s always a risk.

  38. Drl's are led, if you have the HIR2 bulbs Led bulbs are all but illegal for road use, but there are better HIR2 on the market from the like of Osram and Philips
    1 point
  39. 1. Possibly though you might need to include resistors if you get a cambus warning. 2. Possibly not legal and could lead to an MOT failure. Any bulbs fitted must have an E number otherwise it is illegal. Most advice I see online is about replacing halogen headlamps but in your case best advice appears to be to ask a reputable supplier if the E number in not on the packaging.

  41. A semi official Welcome to the forum, semi official because I just another happy member of the Toyota Owners Club. I read the problems you having with the car you bought and you selling it. My wife has a 2010 registered Auris hybrid 75000 miles now, and it goes really well and does good mpg. You usually pay more for a hybrid over a petrol or diesel model, but that’s because of the hybrid technology - which is really good. It has an automatic box but not auto in the conventional way, it is a e-cvt auto, VERY reliable, very user friendly. You get a relaxing drive. I can recommend, but as always, be careful what you buying and who from, get it checked out by a mechanic before buying.

  42. Maybe just leave them as they are. Not to my like but these are useful. Any intervention will require time spent.

  43. Suppose it depends whether you're in an urban or rural environment. We live in a city suburb and because of the level of traffic, parking, etc, in Britain's second city (Birmingham) have always had side mouldings fitted to all of our cars - both main and secondary. In fact we wouldn't have a new car where they weren't available. Personal choice.

  44. Hi Lynsey Cleaning the cables is easy, although you need to remove the airbox (so you need a screwdriver and sockets). But if you have those it's a 30min job. I would suggest using emery paper rather than a brush as I think it's easier and you get a better clean. Just get the surfaces as clean as you can and make sure you do both cables (hence the need to remove the airbox) You don't need to put anything back on the terminals you've cleaned, although you can buy battery paste that is often used on the terminals of batteries. I bought some after I cleaned my terminals but never got round to putting it one, that was about two years ago and I've had no problems so you can save a fiver... If you're unsure or need more help just ask

  45. Avensis stopped production a few years ago so it’s definitely sure that Toyota would not do a hybrid on a model stopping production.
    1 point
  46. Yes, I think so too - such bells and whistles are designed primarily to appeal to switchers from the German brands, especially VW. Most of whom, incidentally, are not that good with their in-car tech. Toyota's would offer some appeal by comparison. But things are evolving rapidly, and I think the picture will be different from 2022 to 2023 with what bells and whistles are offered by whom and who they'll likely appeal to.

  47. Sorry folks but this is descending into a Manual v Automatic argument when the original question was about the different grades of Corolla.
