  2. Just to update this in case anyone has the same issue.. Got the car back today, all sorted now, they adjusted the brackets and now the bumper sits completely flush all the way along the join. All good now..

  3. To be honest. There are lots and lots of techniques on you tube some focussing on hypermiling some on pulse and glide. having driven Prius for a very long time I’d give you some honest advice. Drive it as you would a normal car. the new Corolla hybrid and especially the mk4 PrIus hybrid are the closest to the feeling of normality. My mk2 prius very much had a “personality” of its own. 🙂 cat and frosty can confirm my attitude to that driving style has shown good mpg 🙂

  4. Lots of videos on You Tube, most probably of US origin and of a Prius, but the principles are the same. The Toyota e-CTV gear box is not like “conventional” auto boxes, much smoother, seemless in that there are no gears to change like a normal auto box. If you are like the majority of Toyota hybrid drivers you will find it a very relaxing experience. Note that the mpg in the summer is better then winter, up to say 8 mpg.

  6. It’s not just changes in production but factories were being closed or destroyed. In the US facilities were closed the early part of the year due to cold weather, in Taiwan lots of factories were closed due to a drought and in Japan a major factory burnt down. Switching off a semiconductor factory is not easy and extremely difficult to get it up and running again and even more difficult producing high yield chips. It all sounds simple but reestablishing even the clean room facilities is difficult enough. The amount of chips required today in modern cars is enormous as seen by some car manufacturers now keeping going by reducing the on board technologies and specs, Volvo being one. I also think that Covid made additional problems, shipping shortages, lack of materials, manufacturing chemical and gas supply problems. For many parts of the world production was significantly compromised. As ive said above Toyota had already established a mitigation plan based on earlier capacity problems not only did they invest in facilities themselves they financed joint ownership deals in others. I’m sure that some manufacturers will use the chip issues to hide other failings but I certainly believe that for many it’s a real problem still and likely to be for potentially some time to come.

  7. Yes, ok.. this is a case closed now. I took the car to a mechanic and he could tell me that the slight vibration I was complaining about is normal on pretty much every petrol driven AT-car for over a decade now, so it IS indeed me just being too picky / not used to it. He also confirmed my suspicions that this was caused by the eco-driving mode, and it's a result of the engine being almost choked to save fuel. He also said it would be more common in larger cars, as there was lots of car to pull considering the engine. Many cars have a "normal" mode, but for some reason the Avensis does not (or have hidden it really well!). In the end he told me I should get used to it as this was a very good car and in the given price range I probably couldn't do much better. So... it's just different, not faulty! 😄 So I won't complain more about this specific symptom now and get used to using manual shifting if it becomes bothersome! Sorry for the trouble, but if anyone ever again seeks similar answers I hope this is useful info. I'm going to learn being best friends with my newly purchased car now!

  8. I’ve got a Corolla 2.0 GR Sport but have just been using a Yaris 1.5 Design for the last week or so while mine was with the dealer. I found quite a big difference between the two, getting back in the Corolla today was like driving a limo. It’s so much smoother, quieter and more settled than the Yaris. Inside is a nicer place too, in the Yaris the centre armrest and the door armrest are rock hard making them uncomfortable and the Yaris steering wheel had a strip of plastic on the inside edge of the lower half, it made it feel pretty cheap to touch. The ride in the Yaris felt quite jittery and skittish, it didn’t settle down as well as the Corolla which feels super smooth in comparison. I think the advantages the Yaris has are it’s size, easier to park and manoeuvre, it’s mpg (67 while I had it, 56 in the Corolla) and it’s a cheaper than the Corolla too. Like anything, it’s all subjective, you really need to try and get a decent test drive in both. I’ve asked for a second test drive on the last few cars I’ve bought, gives you more chance to get to know it.

  9. There are plenty of land/range rovers around here, and big 4x4's used for the school run, the only off roading they do is up on the grass verge The gen4 has a bubble butt with big hips

  12. i have done a fair few vauxhall/nissan led mods for people over the years i tend to go with plastic bezels and flat top, wide angle LEDs the driver's side is fairly simple on most cars as you have a 12v illumination and a ground on the window switch Jst connectors will do the job maybe with a bit of hot snot but i do like locking connectors on automotive stuff

  14. In reality such speeds can rupture the dilithium crystals due to vortex stratification.

  15. Quick update, I picked up my new 10m cable today all looks good, white car connector, green cable to the interface box and black cable from the box to the mains plug. The interface box has three LED’s , fault, power, charge. There is also a none backlit LCD screen giving settings and actual charge details, charge status, temperature, voltage, current etc. Not easy to read but frankly it’s a bonus I did not expect. Connected to the car OK no problems and charge status controlled via the MyT app.

  16. The 112mph is limited because of the maximum rotational speed of MG1. It’s the same for all Toyota hybrids

  18. Have you updated to 2021 v1 map update over the air as opposed to downloading it to a usb the speed camera alerts disappear if you have updated ota unless you connect your touch 2 to the internet via your phone. If you download the full update to usb they will be there takes Approx 2 to 4 hrs depending on your internet speed plus another hour when you plug the usb into the vehicle. pretty sure the speed camera alerts stay on the old versions of maps wether or not your subscription has run out.

  19. I'm still quite shocked Si. I guess I'll actually start to believe it when I can see the car on my drive at home.

  21. Ooo good news! 😎 So about a month and a half wait in total from order to delivery at the dealer! Fingers crossed mine won't be too bad a wait!

  22. Just had a call from my dealership and although I was expecting to be told of delays, they actually let me know my car would be on site tomorrow. Nothing at all has shown up on the MyT app so I'm a bit confused really. I'll shoot off to the dealership in the morning to give the car a good checking over and take it from there.

  24. Added an LED to the centre console last night. Just one LED though, as a whole strip would be too bright for that little cubby-hole. Again, the LEDs came from e-bay, very cheap and come complete with little screw-holders that fit quite nicely into the hole left by the abandoned Toyota LED fitment. I ran out of suitable RC-servo leads to cannibalise for this last LED so I just soldered some stiff connecting wire on the ends of the LED leads and covered the joins with heat-shrink tubing. These fitted nice and tightly into the Toyota lighting plug. Wrapped some tape around the plug for extra security and voila! Make sure you check which pins in the Toyota plug are plus and ground with a multimeter though before connecting any wires as LEDs only work one way round - and the red wire is (usually) plus on the LEDs. I'm pleased with the result Pictures attached. Hope it helps someone else too. 😉👍

  25. Stuno1 is looking at a mark 2 x-pression x-wave and the mark 2 Aygo is much less likely to have a boot water leak than the mark 1's which were notorious for it.

  26. Have a look on eBay, it’ll set you back £30-35 and take 30 or so minutes for current maps/software. I don’t ask how the activation codes are generated, but they work.

  27. Just a question I couldn't find the answer for on Google, or I was typing the wrong one and I thought someone in here would know. Eduction purposes. I wouldn't be buying a corolla if I wanted high speed

  29. You can't show the speed limit on the map but you can see the speed limit sign displayed in the main instrument panel. The map data is integrated with the road sign display so that when the national limit sign is displayed the car knows whether the limit is 60 mph or 70 mph from the map and chimes for limit exceeded at the appropriate speed. It also seems to use the map data to chose which speed limit sign to display in some circumstance when it has failed to read a road sign.

  31. Definitely have the exhaust checked all the way back to the manifold. I was rear ended in VW T4 by a Metro (lady driver on phone at T junction) and didn't do a thorough check. I had a towball which went through her radiator but I couldn't see any other damage. Felt sorry for her and let her off. Two months later my exhaust blew at the exit point. The pipe had shafted into the exhaust, not by much, but enough to weaken it. Cost me £180 but thought better of litigating. Learnt the lesson the hard way.
