It might be the Stealer scare mongering, as an example, my daughter bought a ford focus and didn't have the history so went to the ford Stealer for an duplicate, they gave it a health check while they had it and frightened my daughter to death. They told her the car was a death trap and an accident waiting to happen, they told her the discs were beyond the wear limit , pads were worn out and should be replaced asap. She refused for them to do the job and drove the car home very carefully, I inspected the car for her and told her there was nothing wrong with the disc's and pads but she insisted I change them. I took all the parts off and laid them out on the floor along with the new ones and asked her if she could see any difference in the old and the new, very little was her answer. What I'm getting at is go to a local garage and have them look at them and advise you, when I say local garage DON'T go to a QUICKFIT GARAGE. lol

Sad really. Kind of puts me off replacing my Prius anytime soon with a new Prius!

I think that's how I'd describe the noise from the RAV4. I can imagine a flying saucer drifting across the landscape... ..except I don't believe in flying saucers. ..aliens, yes, definitely. Possibly but unlikely aliens visiting Earth. Even less likely aliens visiting Earth during the time when humans are around. Extremely unlikely aliens visiting current day Earth and allowing themselves to be seen or heard by humans 🙂

The speedl limit recognition system is very patchy, I was in roadworks with a 40 mph limit the other day. The symbol on the dash said "40", then went to "10" and then leapt to "120"!!!! Good luck integrating that into a maximum speed limit system.....

The sat nav function was an additional module (Go module) with additional aerial that fitted onto the Touch 2 multimedia unit. To fit a new one would be quite expensive. Map updates are expensive. If they supply a good quality (Garmin, TomTom, etc) stand alone sat nav, it may come with lifetime updates (lifetime of the unit in the view of the manufacturer), and would probably be more accurate. Be cheaper for the dealer as well. Think overall I would plump for their offer of a stand alone sat nav provided it was a decent make, had lifetime updates, and had a reasonable size screen (5 or 6 inches). Point for negotiation I would think.

Not sure if Petronas it’s better than Toyota oil but it is good for sure. Just done my 15th oil change with it today and so far the engine runs and sounds as day one. Now officially have no space for stamps in my service book. One mission accomplished 🚗👌

Are these MOT failures, MOT advisories, or just what the dealer's telling you after a service? Shock absorbers corrode, but don't fail an MOT until they leak or fail to work. Many garages will be able to supply and fit quality parts. If you insist on Toyota badged parts, then you'll pay a premium for parts that have been made and put into bags with Toyota on them. Toyota don't manufacture brake discs, pads and shock absorbers - they buy them in!

Odds on that the genius at the dealer did quote for 5 x 1 litre! It's about £19 for a 1 litre bottle.

Well, I wanted to know that 0w20 was £90 from Toyota, so I wanted to know if there is a cheaper alternative. I heard that 5w-30 is an option which is slightly cheaper. Any suggestions? I don't have much knowledge about this hence I'm asking all the people here - which engine oil have you guys used if you have a Toyota Yaris hybrid 2018

The noise is exactly the same on my Corolla and as previously stated it is louder in reverse. It is not a pleasant sound, would have been much better if it was a simulated petrol engine which is the noise pedestrians are accustomed to.

The OP's relative has a hybrid.

My wife habitually checks her makeup in the car. Down comes the pax visor, open goes the lamp, and I have a restricted view to the left and at night the light distracts too. I have considered fitting a u/s bulb on the visor. Brighter lights would drive me nutty. Why she thinks doing lipstick over speed bumps and potholes is a good idea I don't know.

The problem with the difficult ones was the fact the surrounding material was very hard and no give. The boot light was easy because the surrounding material had a lot of give. What you don’t want to do is damage what would be visible after the job. If you watched the same video as me you will notice the guy had some tools which I suspect were metal. Mine were plastic, cheaper and as they would likely only be used once were ok, but maybe a bit thick to get onto a very tight gap. And that was the initial problem, getting into the tight gap, particularly the map lights, the sun visor lights and the door lights, all hard surround with not much give. I used a pointed kitchen knife to force a gap, being pointed extreme care needed. I suspect the guy in the video will have done the job, or similar, many times, so he knew the fixings and how flexible etc. Also for the video that would not of been the first time those particular units had been removed I found once I had done, for example the map reading lights, just for “fun” I could go back and release them easier. In particular, the map reading light unit is a large chunk of a unit, no give in it at all. All adds up to it being a pain, but with determination it’s was doable. The plastic tools I also got off eBay, different shapes, straight, fork at either end, one more bent then the other end. Plastic tools used see photo, with the knife I used.

Under the two brake selector cables. I can see the gear selector cable gaiters clearly in your photo. Reach down, touch them and follow them back to the cable retaining bracket. Then reach behind the bracket and under the gear selector cables. The plastic nut is there. Its hard to describe but really easy and obvious once you've done it.

My GR Sport TS has the AVAS sound, it’s not intrusive, you can’t hear it inside the car unless the window is down. If yours is producing a loud screeching sound then sounds like something else to me. A stone stuck somewhere rubbing on a brake disc?

My late 2020 TS makes a UFO type noise, not a high pitched squeak, but a hum. .

dont the front brake pads have an arm that touch's the brake disc when the pads need changing and this create a squeal

My neighbour has a newer RAV4 and I think it sounds okay. It's not a 'screech' sound at all. More like a cross between a whine and a hum. Sounds quite space-age.

If it's the disc/brakes, then roll down your window when driving next to a wall, or some houses, they should deflect the sound and should be more noticeable. Could be tyre sound, does the sound change when hitting new/old patch of road?

Agree with the rest, it's a bit of fun but it can be quicker to do it yourself. Also the manoeuvre appears to be just programmed steps so where you actually end up will depend on where you start. It will avoid a collision and can handle tight spaces so it has that going for it but it will also happily leave you so close to the vehicle on your right that you can't get out. You can of course adjust the position afterwards yourself.

ER, no ... the car / system does know which side of the road you are driving on, let alone which side of the road you are supposed to be driving on ...

Thanks for your input Kosta. It isn't very accessible on my Rav due to the towbar crossmember being in the way, but I did manage to get at it with a wooden spatula. It just pushes back down though with very little pressure. I solved it this weekend though! I had an aluminium ruler I bought from Asda for £2 a few weeks ago- stock photo attached. Basically, I measured and drilled another hole at the opposite end and, with a bit of footering, managed to get it in under that section of bumper. I aligned the holes with the supports and secured with the push rivets! See arrows on second pic. (That's a photo taken before the repair) It works a treat. I got a refund from Toyota no problem for the wrong bumper protector and the RGM one is now fixed in place.

Although you can get a Prius in the new dark blue with panoramic cameras and Apple play… The more economic (also has spare) 15 inch wheel option is no longer available Won’t be buying a replacement anytime soon if that strategy continues…
