  1. I have just been informed today that my car will be at the dealers next week, its taken 5 months almost to the day but things can change either way.

  2. I find the difference in price and economy about the same as a percentage. Seems logical to stick with E5 if it isn't costing any more per mile.

  3. You might be surprised but I am in full agreement with you and I understand that the potential for damage is way overblown. The reason I raised the subject is because I also believe that the consumer should be know all the ins and outs of any product so they can make and informed decision on what they buy be that fuel, food, tools or any other product for sale. Your experience is a valuable guide and adds a great deal to the subject and again assists in informing people how they should spend their hard earned income. The only other issue I have is that details like this seem to seep out rather than it being up front and I do not prescribe to the oft quoted mantra of not telling the public in case it causes a panic. The powers that be did not cover themselves with glory with diesel as they promoted them for many years as being cleaner than petrol while forgetting to mention about the particulates they generated. Those that followed advice are now being taxed to death by local government as they do not want such vehicles in their towns and cities. So not good look to then come along with another 'this is good for the environment, trust us' campaign.

  4. I think it does depend on leg length, body shape obviously and seat position but also if you use the LH foot rest. Generally around town I have not issues it’s only on a long drive and cruising that I find my knee inevitably touching the centre console with my LH foot on the rest.

  5. @Hornet3D with respect, I don't contest what you, and others, say about water absorption in Ethanol, and by extension E10, I'm just saying the risk to the car is overblown by the UK E10 user. I have used E10 in my petrol cars since 2015 and never had any problem linked to the use of E10, including during lockdown where I'd fill up once a month, and even before that, since in the first three years of ownership I did c. 8k km per year only. If you car is post-2000 then virtually all petrol engines can safely use E10.

  6. Interesting. Not just my imagination then. Mine doesn't sound good on E10 at all. Sounds...like metal to metal in the cylinders. It also doesn't start up well at all when cold on a cold day (+3 deg. C). I ran the tank right down and filled up with E5 premium (99 RON). Fuel economy definitely drops with E10, too. I ran the numbers and the price difference is made up for in the fuel economy. For me I was seeing about a 15% drop in efficiency.

  7. I noticed the PiP has disappeared now as well. Damn it! I was seriously thinking of getting one. I see the Corolla Cross has appeared, and as noted above has the new drive-train. I'm not sure I like the form-factor though, and I want to see the fuel economy figures. The Yaris Cross felt good to drive, but it is quite a bit less aerodynamic. Driving the Yaris Cross and Yaris back-to-back it was evident the Cross required more power overall. Hydrogen is a nice idea, but like anything proposed by eco-loonies, it is not based in scientific reality. Hydrogen takes massive amounts of energy to split, and the energy you get back from combustion is less than the energy input to split it out in the first place. It is still better to just burn petrol or diesel directly. If it is done in the name of "the environment", it's total crap. You couldn't pay me to buy an EV in the current market. Prices are too high and range is too low. For some reason the Government thinks relative cost is what's important (whether it be energy prices or cars), but I look at absolute cost, and they're only going up. They are more expensive than they're worth.

  8. Is my first new car too - I've never dropped so much money on a single thing so was a big source of anxiety! (Esp. since I was breaking my #1 rule about buying cars, i.e. don't buy new!!) But was worth the anxiety and the wait - Is a damned good car! Even the dealer's incompetence wasn't enough to take the edge off my enjoyment of the car The driving dynamics and powertrain have been improved so much over the previous models - It's almost as much fun to drive as my friend's fiesta but with half the fuel costs

  9. Quite correct 👍. A box with gears then.............🙂

  10. There is absolutely no benefit in using E5 in terms running costs. My car is designed to run on E10 and so E10 it will get. The components used to build the engine are chosen to withstand both ethanol and petrol so there is no risk there, and the hygroscopicity phobia is just that - E10 fuel doesn't draw moisture out of the air. Fuel will go stale if left in the tank indefinitely but that is equally true of both E5 and E10. Well, yes! If you go a buy super unleaded E5 you'll get premium fuel with "all the additives" and a least 97 RON (99 RON at Tesco) so the management system will be able to rev your engine higher and extract every 'ounce' of the extra 1% - 2% energy in E5 fuel. That might well push our top speed from 112 mph to maybe 115 ... 🙂

  11. I'm fairly sure that it is much more complex than the theory but the government figures claimed a 1% reduction in mpg. I don't believe that works in theory and previously (and being nerdy) did a calculation myself Bioethanol gives around 33% of the energy of unleaded petrol. E5 has 5% bioethanol content, E10 has 10%. On that basis, E5 gives the equivalent of 96.65% of the energy of pure unleaded and E10 93.3%. That's a 3.5% reduction in available energy for E10 compared to E5 rather than the 1% claimed. At 45mpg on E5, it works out at 43.4 mpg on E10. Not a huge amount but adds up. Over 10,000 miles it's about an extra 40 litres of fuel, or about £60. Like I say, theoretical only and there:s probably lots more to take into account, including the question you pose on the effect of it sitting around.

  12. Hadn't spotted that. Ordered well before the invasion. Otherwise I would have boycotted them. China needs to decide whose side she is on or face the consequences (as much as that would also hurt us in the UK, US, Can, Aus, EU). The Russian position is total b.s., bizarre, and into the war crimes camp. Putin sits so far away from his generals in case one them shoots him. FSB recently leaked information on the assassination plan of the UKR PM according to reports. So perhaps the cracks are showing. Ali Express... Boycotted from this point on.

  13. It's the millimetre wave radar, have a look in the yaris forum Edit. TSB - 22SMD-016 A major safety recall is underway for the Toyota C-HR and Toyota Yaris Cross SUVs, as well as the Toyota GR Yaris hot hatch. An estimated 18,490 vehicles, all built between May 2020 and August 2021, are impacted by the problem that concerns their advanced safety technology. Specifically, the millimetre wave sensor and camera that are used to detect objects such as vehicles travelling ahead may not work with the pre-collision system (PCS) as intended. According to Toyota, this is because the radar sensor “may not have been initialized properly in the involved vehicles during production”. “As a result, the PCS may be inoperative with no warning indicator to the driver,” the company said. “An inoperative PCS, without a PCS malfunction indicator, may increase the risk of a crash in certain driving situations.” Drivers may notice that they’re unable to alter the speed when using the dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC), or that the lane centring function of the lane trace assist system will not work properly. Given vehicles ahead are not detected, the vehicle icon in the instrument display will not be shown when using active cruise control, and Toyota also admits “the vehicle will not slow down automatically, as designed, when approaching a vehicle ahead with DRCC active”. Authorized Toyota dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles (free of charge) to determine whether the radar sensor is properly initialized, and complete the activation if required. The inspection will take an estimated 30 minute, but a remedy will need another hour or so.

  14. Oh, yeah, I had forgotten that most of you are RHD. I have an LHD car so my right knee is pretty much constantly against the centre console.

  15. I have the problem with the hard plastic on the centre console in my Yaris, and had it in the 208. With the Yaris I had to push the driver seat further back than I would have liked, which means that any, luckily hardly any, reset passenger has to be pretty much kneeless!

  17. I was estimated mid April and heard nothing since, I assume no news is good news. I ordered beginning of January. Not sure on the lead time between build start (as stated on app/tracker) and actual delivery to the dealer do if anyone knows, that will help understand when I should start to see movement in the coming weeks?

  18. Without the 42months 0% PCP I wouldn't be able to afford a new car, as well used car prices are very high. So it's very good from Toyota. The MK4 excel tech pack retail at £24.6k and just below £22.5k with carwow. It does cost a bit for a small car but it has so much good safety tech, a very reliable and fuel efficient hybrid. Owning the car long term (7+ years) is what will save money.

  19. Just a couple of small points. In the last few days it's been stated in press that Bevs are proving less reliable than petrol or diesel, more due to tech rather than mechanical problems and much harder and longer off the road. Full hybrids were the most reliable type of all vehicles. A documentary attempted to analyse full life CO2 production including electricity generation (can't remember what percent renewable) and manufacturing, battery manufacturing and rare metal mining for bev vs fossil fuel, conclusion was Bev saved 25% CO2 emissions, so not as carbon free as you might think. Battery development is going on at a fast pace so a few more years might make Bevs more practical. I'd like to see something with a very long design life and possible to repair economically, this of course is the opposite of most modern manufactured goods, so my next vehicle will be a horse and cart

  20. The difference is much less obvious in the newer ones, probably because they were designed to run on E10. I honestly can't tell the difference between running on V-Power or Sainsburys Special

  21. Efficiency it’s almost the same, maybe 1-3 mpg gain but the performance and drivability are on another level. With E5 99 the car is much more responsive, the engine is a lot quieter and the overall experience makes it worth every penny. I usually do Tesco momentum 99 E5 and the car drives like new. Recently switched to e10 because my Tesco is under construction and the car feels horrible, I had to use additive every fill up to make it drivable again, otherwise engine sounds like there are loose metal parts inside camshafts and power wise is dead. ✌️

  24. I’m certainly not in any rush to get an ev but the way I feel about it is that unlike you, it’s not the incredible performance but the overall range & acccess to charging points so that I can charge the car without queuing or having to wait around too long to do so. Also I’d like to see a greater range on a single charge. Lithium batteries are the order of the day but given the cost of lithium, if our chemists successfully produce a cheap sodium battery, which there’s much research going on about at the moment, the cost of evs should drop & then they will be a viable replacement for petrol/diesel vehicles.

  25. I think the prices of used car will come down but not sure when - maybe 1 year or more. I think the sale of cars by retail users might have not much impact on the used car prices as most of the car that come to used car market are the business and/or lease vehicles. In my case, I got a new car almost the same price as a 2 year old car. Someone who can afford to pay full upfront for the car will benefit even more- for example if the car is for 30k, they can pay 3K, and put remaining 27k in riskless savings account (saving interests rates are up) and save another £1000 -1500 over 3 years.

  26. Mind you I remember when services were due at 6 months/6,000 miles. Think Honda were one of the last manufacturers to move to 12 month/10-12,000 mile servicing. The Honda Concerto 1.5 we bought new in '94, had 6 month/6,000 mile service intervals.

  27. Up to the start of the 90's, an oil change at 500-1000 miles (depending on manufacturer) was the norm. Nissan (which were our first new cars) used to use a light oil for the factory fill, that had to be replaced with standard oil around this mileage. All our other new cars since have just had the usual first service when it was due - ie every 12 months.

  28. Is it on its original battery ? If so, get the battery properly load tested off the car - if the voltage drops below a threshold when the engine isn't running the car may fail to run all its tests (I/M readiness monitors) not 100% on the 1.2 but one or more may run when the car is off Batteries are cheap enough for a non-hybrid (027) as long as it hasn't got stop/start

  29. “the vehicle will not slow down automatically, as designed, when approaching a vehicle ahead with DRCC active”. Good grief I'm glad they're taking that seriously enough to do a recall then! My one seems to okay, if anything I have the opposite problem! (I had the BRAKE! warning trigger at least 9 times before I lost count today! No auto-braking thankfully, just the warning. It really really isn't set up for narrow congested London roads...!)

  30. 1.8 hybrid wasn't there when I checked the dipstick upon delivery checked today and it had little tiny shavings most less than a mm in length cleaned it and checked again, slightly less but still little shavings (mainly on 1 side of the dipstick) with 1 shaving about 5-8mm in length and took a pic (above)

  32. I will look into the idea, I ran out of time yesterday and was getting a bit stressy with it, then of course it's been tipping it down all day today ....In theory if it lines up at the bottom and I can manage to bolt it on, then as for the gap at the top, I could probably cut a section from the original base plate ....I will have a look as soon as its dry and I have time 🙂

  33. If those figures are somewhere near correct then the extra cost of the E5 over E10 would be worth a punt over the year. My last fill up of E5 was I think +5p per litre over E10 but in these crazy time I’m not sure what the cost might be the pump prices for E10 advertised as I drive by seem to increase daily.

  38. Hello, greetings from Bavaria, Germany! I still do not dominate the German language, in fact I'm quite far from that ambition, so I found myself searching for information in Spanish and English about the Corolla Touring Sports, unfortunately exclusively sold in Europe... We're the happy owners of a Corolla TS 2.0 'Team Deutschland', which I think is the equivalent of the 'Design' in the UK, but with LED headlights as standard. We couldn't be more satisfied with our purchase, we're still learning while driving the car, and of course by reading all your contributions in this lovely forum! This was the summary of our first week with the car: Play with the immobilization system of the vehicle at your own risk! It was extremely funny... Not us, the Toyota technical service nor the ADAC people, could figure out what went wrong with the settings, and we couldn't start the car again. It was all solved at the dealership within ten minutes, thanks to their voluptuous scanning tools, but the TS had to sleep alone out in the open until next Monday's morning. Poor thing! Hopefully I can contribute with something in the future and not only serve myself by extracting valuable information from you... Regards! G

  39. A 11 year old car, just like a petrol car. Won't do the same MPG after the same age and distance. This was the first mass produced EV, so the range was low to start with. So your comparing it to newer or new EV's. Now when you decided to buy a hybrid, what was your mindset? I bought my hybrids, with the intention of having the benefits of driving on electric and the regen. Knowing full well it was a way of dipping my toe into EV's, while not having to worry about charging. It was always my intention to go full electric, so the hybrid was a stepping stone.

You can tell by dropping the window and looking at the top of the glass and you’ll see that it looks like 2 thin pieces are fused together. plus if you Google the glass make and codes on the glass it goes into detail about the code type.

  46. Hi all, Got my 2 litre C-HR in Decuma grey today at 10 am with 22 plate. I got the car in 4 weeks as I decided to settle with Design trim. The vehicle has new infotainment system, which looks fast and is very easy to use. I still have to learn a lot about the car operation, and in general about hybrid cars! Thanks to everyone for helping me and enduring me! Sol

  47. Collected my RAV4 Design, Silver Blade, 22 plate car today. 167 days from the order date. We could have had it mid February, but delayed to get a 22 plate. We made an appointment to collect it at 2pm and the dealership was fairly quiet, but had been very busy all morning with customer collections. Even then the the whole of the garage was still awash with 22 plate cars. We only driven about 80 miles so far, and haven't had time to work out what all the functions are, never mind how to invoke them - I've got a head full of acronyms to sort out! Despite having had only a short acquaintance we're very pleased with it. It's very much more refined than the diesel Yeti 4x4 it has replaced. I'm pleased with upgrades of the 22 model, LED interior lights, illuminated window switches, LED headlights and, in particular, the dark silver alloy wheels, which I wasn't expecting, they really do look classy. The factory fitted tow-bar is very nice and sturdy, easy to fit and remove. I haven't had it near the caravan yet but I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be ideal. GDB
