In reality, I am comfortable driving smaller cars and bigger ones, with lots of toys or few, as long as they are practical and reliable. I started out looking at used Aygo’s, even contacting someone on the forum who himself changed down to an Aygo. The wife had a new C1 back in 2006 for the next 6 or 7 years. I found it fun to drive, so the thought of an Aygo X-Pression was buzzing in my head. We went to see one at an independent garage locally, got there and it had been sold the day before. So we looked at his stock and there stood a 2014 plate VW UP, took it for a drive, couldn’t believe how nippy it was for 60bhp, liked the drive, the comport, the practicality of a small car that didn’t feel like a small car, the economy, the build seemed better than an Aygo. Alas we couldn’t strike a deal even without part ex. Eventually I found a 15 plate Skoda CityGo SE Elegance 75bhp down in Bridgend, a long way from Cheshire. A week last Sunday, wife and I went down by train, bought it, drove straight up to Chester through centre of Wales…. Beautiful countryside both from the train and drive home. Still had the Prius at that point but was “doing business” with some online buyers ie Motorway, Better Car Buyer, HeyCar (no way for WBAC). Did a telephone deal with Better Car Buyer, was told a driver would collect, he is not going to haggle, he is collecting the car, he came (from an independent collection company), very professional looking, he checked the car was as described (not even a test drive), he rang Better Car Buyer, they took my bank details, money in my bank within 15 minutes. That was me sorted. The driver drove it away in the direction of Hull. Whilest that was going on, I was contacting the same firms for a deal on the wife’s 2010 Auris hybrid. Motorway did a strong bid but then cooled off. A company called Car Dough (or something similar) called me, we “agreed” a figure over the phone, they sent two “unprofessional” looking guys with a flatbed car carrier truck. They went round the car, took it round the block (literally 200 yards), come back, called me out and promptly told me what was wrong with the body (I was tempted to get my magnifying glass out), and told me there manager was offering £750 less then agreed. I promptly said thank you very much but you are going back empty and they did! Then out of the blue, Motorway sent an email, they had my car details distributed with dealers and the “auction” would end at 3pm (this was last Thursday). At 3:15 I got an email of the highest offer, and the dealer should be in touch within 2 days. Well I text him Saturday morning and he wrong and sounded rough. Not covid he said, but a bug, he really did sound rough. Anyway, he came round with his brother Tuesday just gone, we got on really well, chatting about our common interest, haggled a bit (£200 off, that was ok), and off he went. Meanwhile, the wife wanted an Aygo (she like that C1 as I did), but when we drove home in the CityGo she wanted one too (or UP or Mii). Last Thursday we went to see one in Wales (again) but this time on Anglesey. It as a CityGo, a 60bhp version, we put a deposit on, they were going to spray the rear bumper (couple deep marks) and we went back this morning to pick it up. So we both happy with what we driving now. It will reduce our car insurance quite a lot, we won’t have 2 cars at zero road tax, my car is zero (stop/start) and the wife’s is £20 (no stop start). Today I did a return journey of 170 miles, was putting into practice the hyper mile techniques I learnt in the Prius and got 69.4mpg, not as much as the Prius would have done (probably 75mpg) but I well happy with 69.4. Plus, I spent on the 2 Skoda CityGo’s just over half of what I got for the 2 Toyotas, so money in the bank! And I now have found a good independent VW garage that will look after them, and he is a motorcyclist like I was, so had lots to talk about. It’s a Win Win situation (but I will miss the Gen4 Prius…..an amazing car).

Maybe it's just me, but I don't ind it that complicated.... Press the cruise control active button (little white car symbol) and then move the switch next to it down towards 'set' - this sets the speed right there and then. If you want to go straight up to the speed limit then hold the '+res' button for 3 seconds, if you want to go up or down in increments of 5mph use the switch up or down. The distance button has 3 stages - far away, just right, German saloon driver (!) and the button next to that controls the lane keeping. If it is set with cruise control, and the car picks up the lane markings, then the car will auto steer to keep you in lane - works very well on A roads and Motorways. You can adjust the lane keeping/steering and it's force in the menu, but I might keep that for the next lesson!

If it's the same as the Lexus CVT, it must be a scaled down version, because, if I test drove a Lexus and the gearbox was like the one I had today, I'd walk away. I'm not writing it off yet 😃 Test Drive done and order placed today for the Aygo Exclusive with Protection Pack and Superguard Protection in Chili Red. Delivery date given as 25th July 2022.

I know,any car is better than none when you're young and cab happy,as indeed was I. My first ,an Anglia 105 van with side windows was a real wreck with putty (soft sort) stuffed in the very large rust holes , luckily there was a newly opened supermarket near by that sold "supaloob" engine oil at £1 for a gallon tin. It used one of those per week. But how I loved that car ,it got me out and about , the seaside,the Saturday dances at the local RAF stations with acts like the foundations and mud on the bill. And of course to work to pay for this playboy lifestyle that I led at 17-18 .🤣

Gerhard, I think you may have got the message now……… just relax, let the car computer handle everything, do not stick at one speed cruising for too long, accelerate and decelerate gradually (though nothing wrong with an odd brisk acceleration), don’t worry about hybrid battery bars, they look after themselves, no harsh breaking for a few hundred miles of normal (non MWay use). Personally, I wouldn’t bother changing the oil at anything but the Toyota recommended miles (they designed the car so know best), plus, remember because the car is running on hybrid battery up to 50% of the time, the 15,000 kilometres to first oil change is actually around 8,000 km engine movement ie approx 5k miles.

If it’s your first Toyota it is normal many things to look unfamiliar and strange. Perhaps you may need some more time and you will discover the positive side of been a Toyota, the pleasure of driving experience hybrids deliver and the joy of high efficiency and overall usability of the car. I personally went through a list of difficulties switching between different males but once I got use to it now I am more than happy with these cars ✅👍 Can’t help with anything else as I have a different model Toyota, it’s not a perfect but does it’s job well 👍

Just an update, the LED were at fault, new cluster purchased from ebay and its fine, I will need to get the milage corrected, appreciate everybody's help. Hans

I have just recently shipped a UK registered car back to Blighty. The RoRo car ferry did trips all over the EU including Turkey before it eventually got into Portbury, it even stopped at anchor for 5 days waiting for it's BMW cargo and it ended in being two weeks late into Portbury. These vessels do pick ups and drop offs all along it's voyage and these vessels do cater for multi manufacturers and are not just dedicated to Toyota. Been to dealer today to sign some paperwork, so took the opportunity to have a look around car. Front of car was filthy. I know it will get valeted etc, so not much of an issue, but also noticed N/S rear bumper to body was misaligned. On checking, bumper seemed to be loose at top corner. Checked another car and it was fine. Informed Sales Exec who said he’d get it looked at. Didn't get to have a look inside, so will give it a good check over when we pick it up on 23rd. I always worry slightly about leaving car at dealer - they all seem to be packed in tightly. Just another week until we have it at home. 👍

Finally , after conflicting advice from Crawley Toyota and and indeed a refusal to sell me a skinny spare . In conjuction with Toyota Horsham parts manager ( Tim) I sourced the retaining screw for a full size spare wheel & tyre 235/55/19 ( EOM wheel located at a breakers , took some time) Yes a full size spare does fit ! part T51931-02300 for the screw Crazy to have an SUV & our roads with just a can of gunk

The first thing I thought of, is the high pressure side of the fuel system may not be delivering a high enough. I am not sure of the figures, but just checked a couple of sources. https://toyota-club.net/files/faq/04-11-20_faq_az_eng.htm Second source is from the Haynes manual for the Mk1 using the same engine. From the fuel tank 3.7 - 4.2 bar. High pressure side delivery 95.2 -104.8 bar. Remember this is for the T22 using the same engine. The link states 8 - 13 MPa. You need to convert the figures. 1 megapascal = 10 bar. This means you are getting 7MPa (70 Bar), according to a unit convertor. That sound low. Going by what you have, the pressure is down. Also check other items mention in the link included above.

A friend in the business is going to install them for me, but he's having trouble getting his hands on the brand he prefers to install. I think the brand is Aico. I'd be happy to use another brand but he wants to stick with one brand for his installs. There are lots of them on Amazon.

For our new hybrids I didn't run in so much but I always try not to let the engine run too high until it's warmed up, so no full Pwr runs.

Yes. I was lucky to find that my consumer unit had a free double width space to take the required RCBO, so the installation was straightforward. I did not want to mess around with an earthing rod, so I wired via a Matt:e box, which detects earth faults and opens the circuit as required.

You won't be able to improve the 72 mpg on the long trip much, Robin. That's almost record breaking already. Great result ! What I wrote about the 1400 rpm : of course on cold engine. Not after it gets warm. Hope to get the same result as what i predicted. I'm driving since November in the Aygo. Hope I can manage to get my average of 5.25 liter / 100 km down.

What have you changed to?

The conventional wisdom in normal cars is to be gentle, but use as much of the rev range as possible during the wear-in period, so don't accelerate hard but let the revs climb naturally - What you should try to avoid is holding the same RPM for long periods, as it won't wear in the bores evenly. If you never touch the high RPMs at all over a longer period there is a risk a 'lip' will develop at the top of the bore which may get punched out. With modern engines, esp. Toyotas, it's not such an issue as the tolerances are so insanely tight and the bores and pistons all have special hardened coatings specifically to stop them wearing and to hold onto oil better so as long as you don't rag on it right from the get go it'll be fine. The hybrids don't really give you much authority over what the ICE does anyway, so just drive normally and let it do its thing.

I know it’s not Toyota related but Iv had a VW Tiguan on order now since last August (with a part ex involved too). In this time i’v missed 2 VW price rises by around 5% on the price and the deposit contribution of £1750 from VW has now gone. I’v been told build for June with delivery in July (that’s if they can find a supplier for their wiring looms as they were made in Ukraine!). the dealership has made many guarantees that the price will stay the same - everything will be honoured. I reckon VW have a part to play too in honouring prices for customers who have already placed orders (Iv also had letters from the manufacture apologising). The wait times are incredible at the moment, especially for VW group vehicles, however on the plus side - I’ll be in a bizarre situation where when the car does arrive it will be worth more than I paid in this current climate!

I ordered a Design back in December. The dealer informed me in January that it is due for delivery on 05/05, and again confirmed the same date in late March. 05/05 is only 21 days away, yet the MyT app still shows it in the Order Processing stage. Is the 05/05 date ambitious or should I trust the dealer over the app?

Keep on top of maintenance, and you will be fine, use the correct grade of oil ect Ford, at least they circled the problem, the durashift is awful gearbox if it's your first hybrid it’s a very different way of driving once up to speed be very light on the throttle, you only really need the top 1/4 to 1/3 of throttle, learn to coast up to junctions and down hills, easy on the brakes, if you boot it everywhere your MPG will take a hit it's all about smoothness and flow

If I was in your situation and can afford it I’d take out a plan what I mean by that is with all the price rises I’d expect it to go up if you pay yearly , I’ve a five year service plan on a merc for this reason . On my Toyota car I service myself and have noticed each time I buy the parts and oil they’ve gone up .

Hahah, yeah my mum is a named driver, 51 with a clean license. Well that’s what she tells me at least… as far as I know it’s clean let’s put it that way 😂😂. Yeah my dad isn’t going anywhere near it, his first car was a bright orange Valiant Charger (!Removed! hoonigan grew up in Nzl) well my insurance is set and paid, so I guess it’s just a waiting game until my renewal date comes around

Yeah well my dad didn’t want me having anything below 1.6L engine. He showed me this by taking me out to look at cars, we test drove a 1.0L corsa, and he proved that it is just too much effort and you have to work the gears lots and all that stuff. He also wanted me to be able to get out into smaller spaces in traffic, as he believes it’s dangerous to have a slow car when pulling onto a main road etc. but thanks, I love my little car, it do pay the price tho, my insurance is £700 more than any of my friends 😞

Oh yes. My 2010 Prius has slowly been losing paint for about 4 years. Dealer said, "sorry, out of warranty" numerous times. Both front A-pillars, above the windshield and random spots all around. Every time I wash it, the spots get bigger. Happens here in Canada too!
