  1. Collected our new Yaris today. Dealer had it in showroom under a red cover and did a reveal! My wife drove it back home and stated how smooth and quiet it was. Got back home and had a play myself. Nice. TPMS - wasn’t showing any pressures on display. Somehow, I muddled through set up and now it’s showing. Not a very clear set up process. MyT - Connected to app and now showing loads of info. Is the lock symbol a confirmation you’ve locked car? Unlocked car but still showed as locked. Also assume, no multimedia serial number is required? Lane change flashes - no option to change from 3 to 5? Nothing in Carista atm. e-call - assume this is pre-programmed so nothing needs setting up? Door Locking - no speed sensitive locking option? Going to fit dashcam tomorrow - assume glovebox just pulls out and scuff/kick trims are just clipped in? Fuse box also located under/behind glovebox? Had a lengthy scroll through most menus and set them up as the wife would require ( I think ). I’m sure there will be a few alterations along the way. I’ll post an update on my/our thoughts in a few weeks. 👍

  2. One of the reasons I went for Alcantara upgrade on my C-HR to gain the electric driver's seat adjustment. I'm not a fan of those lever adjusted backrests in vehicles.

  3. Also check the number plates on the front & back are the same. My father in law picked up his new car years ago and the front and back were 1 digit different. They'd registered multiple cars at the same time and had put the wrong one on the back. Needless to say someone else had the wrong one on the front.

  4. That happens every time that I leave home ... The car connects automatically to my home Wi-Fi when it is in range, but where it is normally parked, there is no Wi-Fi - I may do something about that but that's an entirely different topic. As I leave on a journey, it connects the the Wi-Fi as I drive past the house and looses the signal as I drive down the road - so there's a routine "now you see me, now you don't". If there are some changed settings or routing information that I want shared with the car I need simply to pause for a few seconds before I drive off. (It always attempts to log in and synchronise and reports an 'error' if it is unable to complete that task independent of whether or not it there is actually anything new to download.) The other way I could resolve this 'feature' would be to use my 'phone as a mobile hotspot - but I don't / haven't bothered yet. In summary, Vehicle setting changes or Share to car 'routes' made via My Toyoto (or the My T app if you really must) are stored on Toyota's servers and retrieved by the car when next it logs in using the driver's account ...

  5. Just had mine move to ‘In Transit’ bang on the day specified on the background info. Nice to see the VIN for the first time! Says delivery 10th May, see how this goes!

  7. I must admit if they'd had an option for electronic driver seat adjustment with lumbar support and memory in the Mk4 I wouldn't be able to throw my money at them fast enough for it

Take a bit of time getting to know your new car, I was new to Toyota and have worked in the motor trade for 35 years so can find my way round most things ...I don't know if my retailer took this as an excuse for a terrible handover but 90% of the time was spent sat in the showroom doing the final bit of paperwork then came the hard sell on all the extra's before a quick 2 minutes on pairing our phones which didn't go well before see ya. The online owners handbooks are great for reference and have answered most of our questions apart from the terrible connectivity issues, may be car but could be connected devices. The Corolla is a great car and we are growing to love it, it's a learning curve finding out it's capabilities and driving styles but it's a bit of a Wolf in Sheep's clothing , happy to cruise along in eco mode but equally happy to be enthusiastic through the twisty bits.

  9. Took me over 12 months to get my seat right in my C-HR. When the wife drives it, it takes me another 2 days to get it right again. 😡 Still think the recline should be on a wheel adjuster - which allows smaller increments of adjustment. 🥴

  12. I have kept my Yaris and now CHR battery in good shape with a solar charger (when there at least bright skies). The solar panel I use is 20w unit but does fit on top of the dashboard ok. A smaller panel will not give enough power on cloudier days to do what is needed but a charge controller is needed to cope with those sunny days and prevent overcharging.. For what it's worth I think many batteries are damaged due to overdisharge prior to delivery so you are up against it from day one. I observed a Toyota dealer jump starting 4 S/H CHR's on there forecourt I can only draw my own conclusions as to their battery charging policy !

  14. I'm finding the Mk4 surprisingly efficient even at high speeds; The thing that kills it is acceleration. I reckon I would have been on for a tank average of near 80 if I didn't keep caning it down on-ramps to merge onto the motorway (But it's sooo fuuunnnn ) But I've had it cruising at 70mph for a stretch with very little reduction in the tank average as it can just about hold it with 1-2 blocks into Eco+ where the engine is running, but at the 41% 2000rpm efficiency band that the car almost rabidly tries to stay in (Not always; At those speeds it gets very sensitive to wind, gradient etc. and even a gentle press can send the engine north of 3000rpm and into the Power band!) I tend to cruise at 63mph or 59mph depending on what it's like around me, but the easiest way to goose up the mpg is to set the ACC to medium distance and follow a lorry Effortless with the auto-steer enabled too - Takes a lot of the tedium out of a long motorway run. Even on country roads the car is great as the constant acceleration and deceleration gives the hybrid system more opportunities to scavenge energy, and unlike the motorway gives the steering wheel something to do too

  15. Tony, supporting your figures, we did a 200 mile motorway journey, 200 miles, 47 mph with ACC set at 55 (50 true) and got 75 mpg. This was Easter Saturday with slow traffic only on the M25. There were practically no trucks. You might say this is not real world conditions 😁

  17. I was with Aviva, increased by 10% last year asked for another 10% this year. I am renewing with a different company and will pay 25% less but better cover as it includes 6 months continental.

  18. Philip, all true. However if I do want to Share to Car I do it at some point before departure on the relevant journey when I don't want to hang around. I have a WiFi transmitter in the garage so just need to power up the car.

  19. Re car insurance when swopping cars. I am with LV, as is the wife, it is a family policy that gives extra discount. Recently we have changed both cars on different days. The day before exchanging mine I rang LV to say I was changing and was told on the day of exchange both cars involved in the transaction will be insured from 00.00 to 23.59. So on that day I had the whole 24 hours where both cars were insured. No hassle of timing the swop, no hassle hanging about counting down the minutes making sure you don’t drive off too early risking not being insured. The same when 10 days later I rang LV to notify of the wife swooping cars. We both been with LV for 8 years or so now, they give good service, even when one year I had a my fault claim, and the prices are VERY competitive for us two.

  20. I only use cruise control on the motorway and even then very seldom, only if road conditions are suited. Warning chirps are not easy to spot as they seem to last less than a second.

  22. Generally speaking within the UK Japanese cars are filled from the passenger side and European cars are filled from the drivers side. And I reckon that perhaps 90% of drivers did not know, or had forgotten, that there was a "which side to fill up from" indicator within the dashboard fuel gauge.

  23. The warning only triggers if you open the rear doors after unlocking, its part of a new EU regulation hoping to stop people forgetting children in the back seats when leaving the car.

  24. Your car should make a noise the volume and tone are restricted by regulations but whilst moving @ less than 16mph and in electric only mode your car should sound like this HERE

  25. @Roy124 Is that a long range weather forecast? @Vela Seriously though, once you know the date and approximate time of the collection, I would ring your own insurance and get the cover transferred. As has been said, you then know it is done. When I was picking my new car up a couple of weeks ago, I had arranged for the cover to be swapped over at 12 noon. I had the car keys in my hand by about 11.45, so I sat in the car on the forecourt until 12, there was no way I was taking the car on the road until 12!

  27. Yeah, they really did a good job with the new gen of hybrids - They've really ramped up the fuel efficiency, but at the same time made the cars much more responsive and punchier. Even the handling is much improved, this time without sacrificing the ride quality as they had when they tried to address it in previous models! I also love the dual-personality of the car, where it's nice and calming when I'm plodding through the rush-hour traffic, but when I want to take it on a hoon through country roads it's just as raring to do that too! Not many cars can do both so well!

  29. If it's going to be left sat for a while, it's also worth disabling the Smart Entry system completely (Via the head unit settings) as that will let the 12v battery last longer

  30. I just discovered a very handy feature for use in the hotter weather that we get in the summer on my Yaris Launch Edition. It's described on page 132 of the manual... (but I had to enable it using Techstream) Very useful when the car has been standing in the sun parked up for a while and of course it's like an oven inside. With this customisation, it's a simple matter of a long press on the unlock button and "hey presto!" all of the windows wind down to fully open and to let all that heat out instantly! How neat is that?! 😁 (as the old saying goes "RTFM"!) It is also useful for if you forget to close any open windows after you've got out of the car since a long press on the lock button will automatically close any open windows at the same time as the car is locked! I just love my Yaris! 🤣😍

  32. I was OK with the 2019 version, this is the 2022 new version hardware, only out since about Feb, its different, much faster, I was just missing the manual which others said is downloadable

  33. 60s, screen wash was an extra, half pint plastic bag and manual push button. No radio, floor lining rubber, plastic seat went back and forth. Seat back tippex to let back seat pax in. Nothing under the bonnet except masses of open space and a 39 bhp engine. Crossply tyres. One refinement was the fibre tray under the engine. Only got the Anglia new as the bank manager would not loan me money for a 2nd hand Cortina.

  34. You will have to fit an aftermarket closer module (aka total closure) best place to fit it is in the drivers' door as you have access to all the wiring required If you are interested, i did the Auto illuminated passenger window switch mod and colour change to the driver's side

I dunno, seems to be getting worse as more and more manufacturers put in unnecessary always-on computer junk, and putting in bigger batteries only gets you so far, and also makes the car slower and less efficient (Pb batteries are heavy!). People are just being spoilt with these stupid apps that let them control the car remotely. From what I've read here, disabling the Smart entry system goes a long way to mitigating the problem as that seems to be the biggest source of power draw. The next is the connected services but AFAIK there's no way to turn that off. I'm not actually sure if it's on on mine as I refused/rejected all the EULAs for use of the system so it doesn't even appear in my Toyota login! Of course, if you just use the car regularly for its intended purpose that also stops the problem. Or just embrace the joy of driving and go for a weekend hoon on a fun road before that gets banned too...!

  38. Because I was changing from a 66 Prius Excell to a 15 Citigo the premium came down, same with wife from a Auris hybrid to a Citigo, hers came down. No asking for it, it came down. However they do charge a £15 admin fee for changing details such as cars. Fair do’s, it is stated in the policy details and I was aware of it. if I remember correctly the premium came down for both of our cars this year, and then we started the joint policy so it came down a bit more. Each year I have checked with the the internet businesses and invariably I find the price, like for like, cheaper than the reminder I get from LV, so I always renew via the internet. Works for me, though it does sound silly, but I just do it, no huffing and puffing, I just do it.

  40. We are with LV, it went down by about £4 this year, no hassle, really good to deal with. I also had house insurance and contents with them but they priced themselves out of the market and I moved on. I did try and negotiate on the phone, the operator was really good but even she agreed the price increase was excessive

  42. My dealer not been in touch since a month ago when he said end of May. Rear skirt to be fitted, factory or dealer fit don’t know. Ordered 13th December. Front dash cam was to be fitted but I have said don’t bother as I am taking the Thinkware front and rear from my Corolla which is a good system. Dealer is having my car so don’t have to worry there.

  43. When I first got my RAV I got a few ‘chirps’ which turned out to be ‘camera’ warning and ‘collision avoidance’ the later was first encountered driving moderately around a corner but with a parked car on the verge, the car saw that as a vehicle on the road.

  45. Pearlescent white is the best colour and a signature one from Toyota. At daylight looks like white at night and under street lights looks like silver. Really good choice. 👍

  47. Make sure its insured before you leave the forecourt. Either the Toyota 3 day drive away cover OR contact your insurance company & transfer your current insurance over on to your new vehicle.

First job will be the paperwork, ensure all the agreed figures are as they should be, such as a finance rate agreed etc. Make sure you take any documentation that you will need such as proof of address, driving licence etc. Do a walk around of the new car, ensure you are happy with the car, cleanliness, no damage or scratches you can see. They should talk through all the controls with you, take your time, if you are unsure about anything, ask for it to be explained to you. Most of all, go away and enjoy your new car, you will love it I'm sure, lovely cars to drive

  49. If there is a new plug in prius, hopefully it will have a bigger battery capacity and more boot space (but not additional length otherwise it won't fit on my drive). And the ability to charge at 22kW.
