  1. 2014/15 was around the time the more expensive gas began to be used in new cars. For example our previous i20 (2015) had the more expensive gas (1234yf). Should be a label in the engine bay possibly on the pipework or on the underside of the bonnet, saying which gas the car needs.

  2. Just been contacted by the dealer to collect our Design Yaris next week! We ordered mid Jan 2022, never had tracking work on MyT but original estimate was May-Jun so quite happy 🙂

  3. Stick with paper filters and change regularly. k&n and similar will eventually muck up your maf with their oil particles. Best cheap improvement I made was removing the 1m+ looped hose from the front of the air box and replaced with small 30° aluminium pipe. Better flow and nicer (to me) sound.

  4. I think the best initial advice for the first time new buyer would be, take your time and do not assume that, because it is a new car, it is not going to have problems. If you can take someone with you do so, two pairs of eyes are better than one.

  5. Got a call today, it's arrived at dealers, collect it on Tuesday 👍

  6. Ordered mine mid April, got a call from my local Toyota dealer telling me it's arrived, so collection on Tuesday. However, it did sit at the Toyota GB Distribution Centre in Derby for nearly a month. I have sent a email to Toyota GB "airing" my views on it. Got the usual rubbish about worldwide issues blah blah blah, however I highly assume my Aygo X was a finished car when it was sent to Derby, so a feeble excuse!!!

  7. I plan on using bonnet, pay as you go as I likely will not use more than 1-2 times a year. They seem to have a very wide coverage and pricing for the pay as you go tariff is currently is £0.35 per KW. Bonnet | EV Charging Made Easy (joinbonnet.com) My main criticism with the BZ4X (prior owning for a while ...) is the lack of proper route planning with charging and live use of battery in the car. I know Kia/Hyundai and VW group cars all launched without. Hopefully something that will be added in a future update. Quick note, software upgrades are NOT free ...

  8. Do you like it? Then everything is OK... 👍 Taste is always on the eye of the beholder, and you'll get opposing views on everything. The additional lights are not my cup of tee, but choosing that color for your TS was spot on!

  9. Virtually all vehicle manufacturers are affected by semi conductor and parts supply issues, some much worse than Toyota. In Japan when the latest Land Cruiser was launched earlier this year, the waiting list for Japanese customers was 4 years .... Don't forget ETA is an estimate, so thing can change.

  10. The thing is, they are not strictly scams. They offer a service, for which they charge a very hefty commission, if you are savvy and paying attention, you would know that you don't have to do it that way. In France, so much has been made "digital/electronic" whatever you want to call it, that some people are completely incapable to complete what should be relatively straight forward administrative tasks, like getting the car registration changed, for example. They even invented a word "illectronique" (or something similar, I always forget what it is), to describe the inability of technophobes to manage in these modern times. (In a TV report, one lady had put off/was unable to complete her retirement request for over two years, because she didn't know what an email address was! The worst of it for her, is she'll never see those two years of retirement pension, because they don't back date applications here.)

  11. We don't have "home refuelling" for ICE and, by the same token, we don't need home charging for BEV - provided that the recharging infrastructure and 'speed' is in place (which, admittedly, it isn't). Those of us with off street parking may be able to be early adopters; others will be far more reliant on the provision of a proper infrastructure. As for the 11kW charger, I can't see the point. The majority will be restricted to single phase power and thus 32A / 7kW charging at home for the foreseeable future. So a 6.6kW charger in the car is sufficient and will charge a 70+kWh battery overnight. Out on the road you'd want much faster DC charging. A 150kW charger will recharge the same 70+kWh battery in around 30 minutes; faster would be better; 11kW just doesn't cut it (for me).

  12. From my own testing I am happy that the risk from keyless is very low with the new fobs. But if you do decide to completely disable Smart Entry on the car for extra peace of mind, there is no need to use a faraday pouch. The car will just ignore all keyless entry attempts anyway. For the same reason, battery saver mode will only really be useful for prolonging the batter life. It won’t provide any additional security once the feature is disabled.

  13. Yes this helps thank you, the garage said they will turn the keyless off for me & show me how it's done. Will also use the battery saver mode as well as a faraday pouch, just for extra peace of mind. All i need now is the car 🙂

  14. I hope that's not your main source of information; I don't know where that article gets its data from but it is just plain wrong. Even the article Tony linked to mentions supports this ("The maximum temperature of exhaust gases in GDI is almost two times higher (which radically simplifies regeneration without various tricks necessary for diesels)."). I did a quick Google as you suggested and indeed, your article is the first one that appears, and weirdly several copy-pasted versions of the same article. I assume some SEO trickey is afoot! But since we're playing the pointless-argument-on-the-internet game, here's some opposing links! https://www.quora.com/For-a-gasoline-engine-and-a-diesel-engine-of-the-same-power-whose-exhaust-is-hotter https://www.turbocharger.mtee.eu/gasoline-versus-diesel-turbo/ https://www.exploroz.com/forum/72995/exhaust-temperatures---petrol-vs-diesel

  15. I collected my Corolla today after 6 months of checking the app daily 😁 (Ordered Early Jan) - Amazing to finally drive it, suprisingly came with a spacesaver in the boot too, which I wasn't expecting (2.0 HB Icon Tech).

  16. Mine is all sorted. The rattle on the left was the bottom of the A pillar trim. That could be me as I had it out to fit the dash cam. I’ve also cured the media bezel by packing a bit of foam in. It’s now quiet as the grave.

  17. just an update: Funny enough, the £107 from dealer 1 has cost me £47 at dealer 2 and it arrived in just 3 days. They explained that the cover does not need to be painted, it comes already in the model colour. Super customer service, when I paid the part, the gentleman went inside and brought me the invoice. -Oh, thank you, but where is the mirror cover I have just paid? "-It is in you car, I have just fitted." Isn't nice when someone goes an extra mile for customers?

  18. Today I installed my new Fitcamx dash cam for my Toyota Corolla 2019. After doing deep research about the best dash cam which can fit my car without wiring and affecting the driver's vision( OME look). I have found this excellent dash cam, which I installed in 1 minute! I didn’t need to go to a car's electrician to fit the dash cam as it is very easy to install by anyone with no previous experience like me! The dash cam records videos in 4k resolution and supports up to 128g (10hrs recording). The cam has 64G memory, but I updated it for 128G ( ordered from Amazon for £16). The recording quality is excellent, and I recommend it to anyone. I ordered this dash cam from AliExpress ($168). it has arrived within ten days. Any questions I am happy to answer

Glad to be part of this Toyota forum.

  24. It is surprisingly hard to keep the level of acceleration low enough to keep it in EV-only first thing in the morning - I find as the speed increases, I have to back off the pedal to maintain the same slow acceleration. If I hold the pedal in the same position the power bar creeps up as the car picks up speed and the engine fires up and the car goes through the whole sequence, even if you then let go of the accelerator.

  26. Hi Barbel Lad, 1) When first getting into the car open all windows (& boot hatch) to let out heat then close them. 2) Direct all movable vents upwards and not towards passengers. 3) Fan speed 'full' and make sure cabin recycling IS on. Aircon will have an easier time cooling air it has already cooled than drag in warm air from outside. 4) Once desired temperature achieved turn OFF cabin recycling and turn fan down to maintain. Things to consider : A) Cabin pollen filter, if you haven't already checked / changed it do so now. B) As a general rule, more fuel is used by using aircon under 50mph instead of opening windows, above 50mph it is more efficient to use aircon. C) Aircon is not just for summer, it dries out the air so car is less damp during winter months / windows will clear sooner. D) Aircon needs to be used regularly otherwise the seals leak refrigerant gas. If aircon isn't cooling you may need a regard. E) Buy an aircon sanitiser bomb to ensure hvac system is free of germs / smells. F) iQ has a small engine, consider temporarily turning aircon off when driving up prolonged or steep hills. Regards, Dave.

  27. Clutch not aligned correctly. They need to redo all the work. Clutch jobs are precise but often been done in no time and without necessary equipment, as a result- vibrations, noises and premature wear of the new parts. Mechanics then blame the parts quality where actually workmanship was the culprit.

  30. Talking about service books, here it’s mine, fully stamped by myself 👌😉. I service the car and also take pictures of the dashboard, plus I keep record of any parts been replaced. I don’t think anyone would be interested of my car or it’s service history when time for change comes but here we go anyway. I may need to get another book soon or perhaps just keep stamping on the next page📝

  31. Years ago I had an old Triumph Herald convertible. One day, driving over rough ground (all roads in Cyprus qualified as rough ground) there was a clatter and a heap of metal parts dropped onto my feet. A grovel under the dash gave no clues. Probably something to do with the heater. The fan worked and in Cyprus no need for heater to I junked the bits before getting rid of the car.

  32. I use Electric Juice from Octopus. I say use, but not very often with a PHEV. You don't need to be an Octopus customer to join and it's fee free with no mark up on the unit rate. If you are an Octopus customer you can have the charges added to your energy bill. It seems to cover more or less the same charging networks in the UK as the Toyota network does, with the main notable exception being Instavolt. I don't see me paying £4.95 per month for the pleasure of it being integrated in a flaky MyT app.

  34. Well gentlemen, time for an update in my quest for a hybrid Yaris new model. I live in Tunbridge Wells but took the time to drive up to St Albans to test drive the new model with hubby......and were we pleased!!!!!! I love my VW UP and thought I could not love another car but I am hopelessly in love already. The test drive was superb and I knew within minutes that the car would be making its way to Kent. I had gone for an Icon but as I was colour specific (red or blue) I had the chance to try a Design with only 6000 on the clock. The price was more than I want to pay but a bit of female haggling brought the price down to an acceptable level. So after 10am on Saturday....should you be driving round the roads of Kent and see a lady in a new model blue Yaris sporting a huge grin....that will be me! Happy driving and thanks to all Kind regards Denise

  37. Doesn't disengage, that's right. I've been thinking to switch it off and on myself, manually, whenever I need all power from the engine. They talked about the same subject here too, I found out just now.

  38. The OP has a 2021 Aygo - facelift second generation. The air con of our second generation doesn't disengage, and then again doesn't seem to be badly affected by the air con being on.

  39. Is it a Mk2 Aygo out of curiosity? I wonder if they changed how the AC works on the newer ones - From what I remember of the original one, it would disengage the AC when the engine is under load (e.g. under acceleration) to avoid sapping power, but re-engage it once you're coasting or at constant speed. I'm pretty sure the Skoda does something like this. Even my Yaris Mk2 did this (Well, before the AC system totally died...)

  40. My wife was due to do some training in Bridport, and then another event up in Belper. We used the Aygo as parking was tight where we were staying in Bridport. Did the 160 mile journey from Birmingham to Bridport (two up with luggage), then a couple of days later the 210 mile journey to Belper, and after a further three days, the 40 mile return to home. Absolutely no problem with seat comfort, or the Aygo's ability to cope with the motorway, A-roads, etc. Previously she did a 12 month course (one weekend a month) near Kettering. Used the i20 for the outward/return journeys on Saturday and Sunday mornings and the Aygo for the same journeys in the late afternoons. So 250 miles for each car over each weekend. Again no issue. Not everyone has a Rav4.

  41. We have a Škoda Fabia 1.0 Mpi 55 kW and an Aygo 53 kW at home. Both cars have mechanical air conditioning, but the Fabia has no reduced power when the air conditioning is running, the Aygo goes much lower. Why does Skoda know, but Toyota can't?

  42. I’d also say at that age, condition and mileage would be more important. I had a choice of two very clean cars. One was a 2009 with leather seats, dvd screen in rear, big alloys, body kit, etc., and a plain, boring looking 2006 one on 17 inch tyres. However, that one had 30k miles and was an auction grade 5/a, so I chose that one. Quite a few threads on other sites about reliability of the 2gr fe 3.5 v6. Consensus seems to be they’ll do a couple hundred thousand miles no bother, as long as it is maintained. Many recommend changing the oil every 5-6 thousand miles to ensure longevity.

  44. Hi, This is what I thought and what you said is what is happenin. Yes the car is hybrid and yes brakes went week after pot hole for a few days but then now it's normal. Just pumping noise when start car sometimes. No lights on dash and brake fluid is fine. I checked all of this long time ago. I will be booking with intermediate service as it's due with Toyota. I am guessing of they notice something during service then they will tell me. I be honest I dont like the braking on these hybrid cars compared to petrol.

  47. Hi Jay, your car is hybrid right? If yes that means you have an electric brake booster pump in addition to the electronic abs. Pumping noises are typical for Toyota hybrids, also when open the drivers door or when close it and lock the car there are also noises because the system pressures and depressurises itself. When going over road potholes, bumps or cracks and applying the brakes the abs can activate and trigger these strange pump noises, they can come up also as a result of activation of the car anti skid control but if this is the case there will be warning lights on the dash that will flash . If you have yellow and red brake warning lights constantly on the dashboard then do not drive the car and call your nearest dealer. If no lights are present and the brakes work fine you can simply double check your brake fluid level and continue to use your car. Pay attention when you hear these noises and what unusual thing is happening. All Toyota hybrids for some reason when going over rough road and applying brakes if abs activates then next one or two slow downs the brakes are somehow weaker then before and then after they come back to normal. Pumping noises are present from time to time as normal occurrence. 👍
