  1. I have now fitted the Toyota replacement battery which cost £142.99 and was available in 2 days. Fairly straight forward. The hardest part was the brute force needed to get the seat up although it went back easily. As I expected the plastic trim plugs broke (why don't they use screws - this always happens!) but otherwise only took about 30 mins to put new battery in and she fired up straight away. All good. 😅

  2. Many years ago, my old (new then) ax had a cigarette burn in the rear seat. My wife at the time was a skilled seamstress, and stitched the seat with a curved needle. Just about an invisible repair. But of course depends on how big and how bad the burn.

  3. Toyota say, "Trail Mode - Applies the brake to the spinning tyre and allocates torque to the tyre touching the road surface". Which explains why this enables the car to escape from the rollers once enabled. What seems odd to me is that the "intelligent" AWD system doesn't try to do that automatically. But at least the test shows it working.

  4. Check what Japanese are doing, looks really cool: Correct. Here's info by Toyota about Snow mode: - tempers accelerator openness and supports starts that limit slippage on a slippery road surface - tempers accelerator openness during acceleration and limits slippage - tempers throttle response to help pull away securely from stationary or accelerate to maintain controllability when driving on snow or ice Yes, Trail Mode changes significantly the operation of traction control system.

  5. I used to trade cars in many moons ago but that all stopped when the auction sites started up ( such as WeWantAnyCar.com ). My tip is never trade a car against the other - treat the selling and buying as two seperate transactions. I could give pages of examples over the years but here's the craziest. I negotiate hard so I'm confident I get near the dealer's best price. 1: Dealer A gave me changeover figure. 2: I found it was cheaper to buy the new car and then sell the old car to a broker. 3: The broker giving the best price happened to be the chain that dealer A belonged to. 4: When selling the car I was told to take it to any of their dealers. I took it back to dealer A. So, buying the same new car from the same dealer and giving them my car in return, just as I would have done if I px'd, it saved me £1500. Dealer A couldn't believe it. He said said their group buying service was a completely different operation with different profit margins.

  7. This happened to me at xmas on a 8 month old Corolla GR Sport, insurance used autoglass and they also calibrated the sensors, it has a HUD and that was fine too. £75 excess was the only cost & done in around an hour.

  10. I don't think that you are far off on that Hasan, the 4 grand ones seem to be very low mileage dealer ones, with of course the dealer margin built-in. And the miley rough ones from around a grand. If you do decide to sell,on here, or on such as fleabay, you probably already know, but it is very important to describe all faults to avoid people travelling and being disappointed. You could try it at that price, and see what offers come in, but of course London prices are different from round here, so you may get a really good offer, hope so anyway 🙂

  11. So new battery fitted. could tell immediately, as the power fold wing mirrors seemed to be super charged. First drive out, first stop at lights and it kicked in.

  15. My windscreen had a stone chip on the passenger side that developed into a wide crack within minutes. I had it replaced at autoglass last December, took about an hour. They replaced it with acoustic glass and it seems quieter from the front to me. No complaints.

  16. Toyota battery just supplied to me had Dec 22 on it. Seems fine and have replaced failed 12v one now which was showing 3.9v. After 3 days on trickle charge only got up to 9v which dropped quickly with tthe slightest load. The Toyota replacement battery which cost £142.99 and was available in 2 days. 17. Throttle bodies on any car gets dirty and ready for cleaning as quick as 50000 miles or so. In some cars it’s or a problem at all and they can keep going for a lot more for others it does cause some problems like rough idle, lumpy drive, engine fluctuations at low rpm. Simple clean can sort most of the issues. Maf sensors usually always look clean however they have a thin oily film, a shoot of specialist spray will make them even cleaner.

  18. I recently had a windscreen replaced by my insurance along with some paintwork on bonnet and wing, caused by vandalism. All seemed fine until it rained, the auto sensor for wipers did not work, returned to insurance repair agent who checked everything was setup correctly with OBD reader and had to pay for Toyota dealer to check and sort it, they had not fitted a Gel pack which you would expect glass replacement people to know needed doing.

  20. I'm also looking at having to have some dental work done in the near future. Reading this thread has scared me as to the exorbitant prices being charged. I am luckier than most in that I have a Medical policy through work. It doesn't pay out a huge amount for dental work, but at least I;ll be able to recover £250 of the thousands I can expect to pay. I may have to bite the bullet (and perhaps lose another tooth) and pay up. I am going to enjoy the weekend. It's probably going to be the last time I'll be able to afford to go out for a while. I can't believe the prices being charged.

  21. found the for sale section, thanks for the heads-up on that Paul. Seems to be a fair range of prices, between about 1500 and 4000 for a very low mileage ones. Mine is certainly not one of those, its at around 108k, so thinking of £2500. I'm fully aware of the negatives on it, eg front wing respray is slightly different in colour, some scratches on the roof etc. I'd welcome any suggestions if you think its in the right ballpark. Need to give it a good wash and polish again. I'll also post up the pics of the things i think take away from it being as good as it could be, although time permitting i'll try and get those sorted. I'll also try and summarise what i've done to the car both mechanically and cosmetically. One of the big achievements, i feel, is the reduction in rattles and road noise! Makes it a nice and pleasant (and fun!) drive.

  22. Hi guys and happy Easter to everyone ! I decided to add an android player to my Auris rather than replace the original one because the original has the best FM radio reception, amplifier sounds perfectly imho, and it's fascia matches perfectly with the dash... So I searched an android player that has an aux output and it can be integrated in my central console without altering the dash appearance. I found this player that connects with the phone in few seconds and has a very good price too. In addition, it has DVR and ADAS, reverse camera input and a supercapacitor instead of lithium battery. The sound can be sent in three ways : built in speaker, aux cord and FM modulator. I choose FM because of the sound sounds perfectly, same volume as FM stations and no noise. I routed the wires under the dashboard, hidden charger backside of clocks and connected it at mirrors switch where I found an IG+ and a minus 12V. My phone stays now in the shade, in glove compartment and fully charged during the long trips instead of staying hot on the dash exposed to sun. I'm happy with this player so far.

  23. Hi, just to report delivery time of a Yaris to Lisbon (mid spec, equivalent to UK market Design spec): ordered on December 19th, has arrived to Portugal and paperwork completed, but will arrive Lisbon next week, roughly 4 months. Better than expected but still a long lead time.

  24. Well, I am back on the road with the tsport after it's lay up for nearly 3 weeks. As suspected,it did need a new battery ,so treated it to a yuasa 5000 , which a kind friend picked up from hellfrauds for £90 and fitted for me, and blew the tyres up aswell. So out to pay a couple of bills today, and bit of shopping, coming across a roundabout on the bypass, greasy conditions. Accelerating off the roundabout, I noticed wheelspin in both second and third gear 😮, did not see any lights up on dash re traction control or anything , and not flooring it, tyres are good tread and good quality. The surface there is the worn out grippy stuff that is often on approaches and exits to and from roundabouts round here. So it looks like either my driving has deteriorated badly ,or the 20 year old engine is still giving plenty of power to overcome the grip available, still my fault either way. But if traction control is on there,it worked, with no snaking or danger, just the wheelspin. Still I am very grateful to be driving about again, and thankful for my friends who have helped me out.

  25. It's a necessity Bob, and if Berkshire is currently the same as here, as in no NHS dentists taking on patients, then not much choice I'm afraid. Believe me, expensive as it is, getting rid of severe tooth pain is worth any amount of money. I think in economic terms, it's called an inelastic demand,as in there will always be a demand for dentist treatment, and a limited supply of it. I have heard recently of dental insurance plans, but of course you cannot get insured for existing conditions, like Bupa for instance not insuring existing medical conditions. My recent treatment at £476 when I think about it, covered around 4 hours of of fairly difficult work, along with all the equipment needed and suitable premises, and the dentist giving herself some pretty bad backache due to having to stand due to my breathing problems. So compared to a main dealer or garage, charging around £120 an hour for an unskilled apprentice to faff about with a Toyota, and messing it up, doesn't seem too bad really.

  31. Not exactly Bob, the old filling lost was an an old amalgam filling from many decades ago, when dentists used steam power 😉 connected to the actual drill by exposed rubber bands x2, very slow and painful. But hey ho , back then, things were different. But as regards now, private treatment is the only option. The treatment yesterday was two surgical extractions including a complication of sinus proximity, and a temporary filling on the tooth that fell off. An emergency consultation at £80 to have a look +,4 x-rays of teeth . I expect a further £500 or so, but as I say, when someone is in severe pain, they will do anything to alleviate that, I think that I am lucky to have that option.

  34. Hi, yes there are sensors attached to the windshield below rear view mirror. A new original replacement screen can cost close to £900 from Toyota all in. You can request insurance work and they most likely will be auto glass, they offer ok service but in some cases they don’t fit the windscreen flush with the roof line but make it poke out a bit. After screen replacement there are procedures to set up sensors and radars, but they usually know that and will take care off. You may ask auto glass for original Toyota part but this might come at extra expense. Best to speak to your insurance and then to the contractor who is going to replace the screen. Good luck

  35. Wow, but also a bit sad to see. Clearly someones pride and joy - and not been touched since the 70's. Give it a few more years and all that will be back in fashion again (some of it probably is already!)

  36. Does your 1.33 engines has an egr valves and small holes inside the intake manifold similar to 1.8 hybrids? The theory is that at certain speeds and loads let say 25% engine load the throttle plate gets closed and the air supply goes via egr only. Since the egr air passages are blocked and very limited there is almost no air supply while engine creates a strong vacuum that fully opens the pcv and sucks oil from there, a lots of oil that gets burned. This theory makes a lots of sense in 1.8 2ZR-XFE and when I was opening and cleaning my throttle body and replaced pcv first time at 60k miles I found a lots of oil was seating at the bottom of the manifold below the throttle body. At that time the car has had no oil consumption. I am planning soon revisiting and changing pcv, cleaning intake manifold and egr system. We will see what I will find now, over 100k miles since last check and clean. 👍 Pcv valves may look good but I believe after some miles it is a good idea to get changed for new as it’s basically a spring loaded valve that spring will get tired and may not open or close properly. Those pcv valves only gets blocked on neglected engines with a lots of carbon buildup.

  37. Just sent an email to the sales guy, who said let him know if I ever had any issues (like they do) with the attached videos showing the issue. Saying unless they have a fix for this I’m not bring the car in. I’ll see how that’s goes.

  38. I need to check and confirm that the stalks are not illuminated on my Avensis TR spec. I know where each control is and what it does without have to look. Same for the cruise control. When Waqs stated 'indicator stalk. switch light is not working?', I thought he meant his lights are not coming on.

  39. That's why I asked is there any of the models to steer clear of, I did notice there is a 1.2 T icon a 1.2 VVTi and a 1.33 VVTi didn't know if any of the engines suffered like the 1.3 yaris engine that drank as much oil as petrol, plus the 1.6 wouldn't have the turbo lag and a low milage late registered 1.6 will cost around £9k.

  40. They're still popular with people in the know and it should sell easily but don't let it go too cheaply! With the work you've put into it it'll be worth more to the right buyer, esp. if it's mostly stock. I just hope whoever buys it doesn't ruin it with silly mods...!

  42. Hello again everyone, apologies for bringing up an old topic, just said id let everyone know that i managed to solve the issue with the car and I'm really hoping it helps someone else if they are having a similar or the same issue.. So,brought the car to the mechanic a while ago and got it back yesterday, with the whole blowing bluish/greyish smoke issue coming out every so often with not even a lil burp of oil other than the usual manufacturer oil burn happening,i was told that the turbo seals were starting to get worse and worse so opted to have that done with a 2nd hand turbo(they are hard to come by new🙈) so keep an ear out for unusual noises or whining coming from the turbo as they are common on this type Avensis to fail, now im no mechanic whatsoever but as i previously stated before on this thread i was very suspicious the DPF had or was ready to throw in the towel, low and behold mechanic told me the DPF was in fact quite cheesed, told me the inner honeycomb like structure was covered in oil, made sense that turbo seals were leaking,****** oil onto the DPF therefore heating it up and burning it off hence the blue/greyish smoke,so i opted to do a DPF delete and map the software out, yeah yeah i know NCT/MOT failure is possible but not everyone can afford a new DPF given the fact, well here in Ireland they cost upwards of about 7-800 euro,as for the 5th injector that can be bypassed, and i can now confirm my issue is resolved!!! Just want to say thank you very very much to everyone on here who has given me advice and help,it means a lot👌🏻👌🏻now obviously i don't recommend everyone goes out and does a DPF delete but it is an option Hope this helps guys, Peace out✌🏻

  43. Hello Hasan, yes I too like the pick up in any gear, even though the original sale blurb on these is a close ratio gearbox, they pull away cleanly. Shame you are having to sell, but if you have to, I am sure you already know that they come out as ulez free, which may help your sale.

  44. Aye bathtub tom, it is indeed possible that the area is soaked in diesel, that particular bit of the western bypass has more or less a daily accident on that roundabout with a lot of HGVs over turned. The A 46 dual carriageway heading south changes to a single carriageway on exiting the roundabout, and catches out a lot of drivers with nowhere to go when they realise. I use it to go across west to east mostly and vice versa when using a village post office to pay bills etc, they are friendly 🙂 and have a book stall. Didn't smell any on this occasion though.

  46. Had a look today flash, it sounds a bit lame I know, but I simply can't get down close enough to see the codes. But I could see the make, Mohawk, not sure if these are oriental super lucky deetch fyndeers, as Cyker had me actually laughing for the first time in a while 😅 or a native American make with a deep tread in the middle portion, and bald on the sides. I was maybe wrongly assuming good quality from the no expense spared history of this car.

  47. It depends on the brand 5-6 years old the compound starts to go off, they go soft or rock hard, and you will get wheel spin in the wet/damp braking distances will also be longer they don't make them like they used to

  48. Diesel spill? I've been caught out a few times and it's only after when you smell it, you realise.

  49. I wouldn't have thought so, assuming they're not Super Lucky Sum Egg Deech Fynders, but I've never had tyres last that long They may have developed a flatspot due to sitting for long periods, esp. if left at normal pressures (That's why they inflate them to 60+PSI after manufacture, to stop them getting deformed from sitting for long periods!), but that'll fix itself over time as they're used and the rubber gets a good work out. It could just be the roads - Don't know what it's like for you lot up in that mysterious place only signposted to us softie southerners as THE NORTH, but down here the roads have been really crap - Lots of swarth as the top layers are delaminating into little gravelly bits, the rain drawing out road chemicals to the surface leaving this slightly oily surface layer. Or maybe you were temporarily possessed by the spirit of McRae!

  50. Yes I will let you know how I get on. They do seem to want to try and sort it, but I am worried I have just purchased a very expensive load of trouble and have said I might be asking for my money back. Will be discussing this with the boss of sales tomorrow. I said they should be checking all of the aygo x's on their forecourt now they know this as many customers won't probably discover this until they need to access the wheel filler.
