  1. My wife's 64 plate Yaris drivers side windows stopped working lucky when fully up. I checked the terms of the relax warranty and it said it was covered. We booked it on at the main dealer and they warned us of the £90 inspection fee if it was not covered under warranty. It was the wiring loom a common problem they said and its all been replaced by the dealer and all covered by the relax warranty. 😁How many manufactures can you get a 9yr old car fixed under warranty.😁

  2. Our order is with the dealer now but still 1-2 weeks for paper work, registration etc so would vary depending on your dealer too. Not long now though! 🥳

  6. Had an unexpected short wait for my Yaris Cross Design to be delivered. Ordered 28th March 2023 and was delivered yesterday (25th May 2023). Took it out for a drive last night and it was a very positive first drive. Really nice and smooth.

  7. It's funny how much the Yaris Cross especially divides people. I absolutely love how it looks but almost every review video in Finland has comments full of "this is the ugliest car ive ever seen". I dont care, enough for me that I really like it 😄 I also really like how my Aygo X looks (other than from behind maybe)

  8. My Toyota dealer offers a 230v engine block heater that can also be split to charge the 12v battery (and an indoor heater too if you want to spend more). I'm tempted cos it would largely remove this worry for me entirely and since we have cold winters, a warm engine probably helps the consumption and hybrid system too. Just the problem that we only have one of those car heating posts for our apartment (2 parking spots, but only one is within that 230v electricity post). The lady has a biogas operated Volvo V70 and does rather short drives, so it's a pretty massive difference in that big cars consumption on shorter trips, as the biogas doesnt kick in until engine is warm enough and will use petrol until that point. But maybe I just steal her parking spot a few times a winter and put the Yaris Cross on a charger

  10. I bought a Ford Fiesta from motorpoint a few years back and noticed that the car had not been serviced within the 12 month periods stipulated in the warranty. The services had been done correctly for mileage however. I found motorpoint very good to deal with (Peterborough branch) and they provided me with a written guarantee to cover any warranty costs during the 3 year Ford warranty period if Ford refused to cover due to the services not being done as per the schedule.

  11. Hey everyone, First time Toyota owner here having received delivery of my 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross Design in Decuma Grey yesterday. It’s also the first time I’ve owned a brand new car and a bit of a jump from my 2009 Mazda 2. Looking forward to getting advice, tips and also potentially helping others as I learn more about the car. Picture of the new arrival.

  12. In conclusion, the efficiency doesn't seem too bad, what seems to be the main thing in my mind, is that Toyota are limiting the useable capacity massively in what is supposed to be a 71.4 Kwh battery (obviously done for longevity). If useable capacity was more like everyone was expecting, i don't think there wouldn't be anyone complaining about range as it would be as expected. Maybe in a few years time when other vehicles have lost some of their original capacity, us BZ4X owners may feel a little happier with what they have done

  20. Theres no ac, everything spins fine. The ground is ok also.

  21. Have you checked the other items driven by the belt, a/c pump if fitted is a common cause connect the alternator but slacken the belt off, 1/4 twist of the belt in the longest part is about right sounds like it has a bad ground, possibly you missed it when putting the engine in - use a jumper cable between the engine block and body to act as a ground

  22. You'll have to decide about the block heater but your easiest solution is a jump pack. It is always available wherever you park.

  24. Annoyingly the Toyota dealer near us uses rubbish batteries. A couple of times my wife's car has been in for a service then 2 or 3 weeks later her remote fob suddenly stops working. Open up the fob and sure enough they've replaced the Panasonic battery I fitted last time with a cr@ppy Chinese brand which has lasted less than a month. I then fit another Panasonic and it's back working fine, until the next time it goes for a service! Next time it happens I'm going to complain.

  27. Bear in mind that the immobiliser chip is totally separate to the remote locking/entry part of the key fob. The key will still start the car even with no battery in the fob at all. I find that the quality of some of these silver batteries is shockingly bad and always stick to Panasonic or Duracell brands now. I have known some to show an OK voltage with a multimeter but as soon as you put any load on them the voltage collapses to zilch. Now I don't even bother testing them, if the remote fob stops working I replace the battery and it's fine.

  28. The new corolla has LED headlights, will be a lot better than halogen. Go through drive the deal for the best price. There are other bulbs by osram, Hella, Phillips have better output.

  29. No, you don't actually have to have a service plan to get the extra Warrenty, but you do have to have the car srviced by Toyota main dealer, so if you are going to get it serviced at main dealer to get the extra Warenty, you might as well have a service plan.

  30. I have the MyT app running on my Android phone, two different makes over the period of car ownership, and also on a iPad Pro. During the two years the MyT has been regularly out of 'service', missing trips, unavailable etc., for one reason or another and if it's off the phone then it's also off the iPAD. I don't think it's anything to do with the OS on the reporting device more likely coincidence. The app would need to be much more reliable and better features for me to part with any money. I think this is especially true for owners who would have liked to use the 'business trip' annotations but are unable to do so due to the poor up time and unreliable trip recording.

  31. I don't use super unleaded for a power increase I use it because I believe the hype and think the additives are worth having (as said below) , also compare momentum E5 to shell E10 and you are not paying much more for thr better fuel. " I think additives are more important than octane"

  32. Hi Andrei, If Toyota is the car you want then you have made a very good choice. In my opinion I always think the best way to choose a particular model is to test drive as many different ones as you can. Toyota dealers will be more then happy to allow you do this and that way it will give you and your partner the best options for your budget. Even if your budget means you will have to look at the private market you will have a far better idea of what models you prefer as you would have test driven a good few. With a new baby on the way you may want to look at the space in the back for the chair and any potential issues that this may give you amd your partner along with economy etc. If she can drive it will also give her an idea of how she feels about the safety and drive etc. The best thing about doing this is it gives you both a few options to choose from and remember the best choice you will make will be the one you make yourselves and you can gain a lot of knowledge and fun by doing this. Hope this helps good luck and let us know what model you decide on.👍

  34. I've seen worse, but definitely worth cleaning, not least because it is so easy and cheap to do! Don't forget the other end of this particular pictured wire, too. Some people, when thinking of electrical theory, make a comparison to water flow. It sometimes help to consider it this way. For current - think water flow For voltage - think water pressure In a hose pipe, if you have a moderate kink in it (equivalent in a wire to some resistance/corrosion/bad connection), then it will work fine at low openings of the valve/sprayer at the end; so the pressure of the water (voltage) is maintained. If the valve is opened wide at the end of the kinked hose (big flow requested - like starting the car engine), then the pressure (voltage) collapses because of the restriction. So the 12v supply at the 'car' end collapses and your clock and radio reset themselves. The problem could be something else of course.

  35. I changed from a Rav4 to a Cross because I was driving a lot more frequently in town, school runs and shopping etc. Has anyone else done the same and how have you found the experience? Obviously a Rav is alot more substantial but for my needs the Cross is fine.

  36. If you want Corolla, gets the one with Technology package or projector headlights not the panoramic/reflector type. I know the OEM Longlife Philips Halogen HIR2 is not that bright. It is 2000 hours rating and 1340 lumens. The standard bulb (OSRAM, HELLA, Philips xtreem vision) are all 1875 lumens but only last 500 hours. Those are legal choice. Hella from Amazon for £7 is already a good cheap upgrade. 40% brighter than OEM bulb. If you want something significantly brighter, brighter than any newer Corolla headlights, you need to risk yourself using a good LED. I had tried Bevinsee V45, they are literally 2-3X brighter than original halogen. Don't buy other brands unless you know and tested before and avoid V55 too (V35 is good). It has very sharp cut-off in projector beam but we need to lower the level 1 click down from inside the cabin if we have 4 adults with us. It will not blind others but they are not legal. Do it on your own risk. I still do it because the Pros is much higher than the Cons. This Bevinsee V45 is brighter than the projector on Corolla. I had compared them one to one when I stop next to Corolla at the traffic light. It has 3 years warranty and for €45, it is very cheap. Other brands (Morimoto, GTR Ultra 2, Apollo X7, etc) cost at least $100+shipping and tax.

  38. Toyota diesel engines, esp. the 1.4 D4D, were practically bullet-proof as long as they were looked after i.e. with regular quality oil changes. That said, I'd not touch a diesel past around 2010 or whenever they started fitting DPFs and DMFs; These two things, the Diesel Particulate Filter and Dual-Mass Flywheel, single-handedly torpedoed the reliability of diesel engines, esp. if driven at lower speeds or gently most of the time, and turned them from being far more reliable and long-lived than petrol engines to far worse. I think you're right to stick to petrol, although Toyota's biggest strength is their hybrid engines at the moment; Nobody comes close to them on that front. The Avensis is quite a nice car and probably the most comfortable one before they stopped making them; You'd need to do your research on the engines as one of them had oil burning issues IIRC, but in later-year ones of those engines they'll have fixed all the problems. I find if you want the best reliability, it's usually best to get the last model just before they released a new one! The old gen 9 Corollas were also very good cars but probably well under your budget, and finding one that's been looked after and isn't a rusted to death could be tricky now. I think you might be able to pick up an Auris hybrid for that sort of money with some luck and good haggling, although it'd likely have a lot of miles on it.

  39. yep, petrols and diesels have had o2 sensors from the early 90's a 2013 verso will have a catalytic convertor and a DPF

  40. Yep, people complain about the Toyota service charges but they effectively include the purchase of a year's warranty.

  41. One of my Romanian friends was surprised and amused that Dacias are so common here in the U.K. He ended up buying a Peugot 300∞ diesel for his baby, due in July. He is a little disappointed that it isn't a higher emissions standard, but hadn't realised that until after he bought it. I think his is around a 2012 model, my little 2005 Yaris petrol has a better emissions class. 😁 My diesel Avensis was about bulletproof, but I think it was a lower emissions class, 2006 with no DPF and the Toyota engine, the newer models can have the BMW based N47 engine. I had the closely related M47 engine in my Freelander and I didn't think it was as good as the Toyota diesel.

  43. Yes it is a good idea Toyota carry out the service schedule in line with its Warrenty etc. It doesn't matter if you only do 100 miles a year they will still do the required service oli change etc etc. Yes it does seem sometimes that keeping a low milage on the car should mean that less needs doing on service but it is not the case with most main dealers. Some parts are expensive but better to have the car serviced and parts replaced as it will save you a lot of hassle and a loss less money in the long run and secures you under the warrenty. Hope this helps👍

  44. In the past few years my family have bought two cars from Cinch and two from Cazoo. I can't say I've seen any evidence of any cars on their sites being parallel imports, and generally they have all been positive buying experiences, but I would advise to check the service history carefully. It does seem quite common for the service books themselves to either be missing or incomplete, but with the two Toyotas we bought the service history was confirmed with printouts from Toyota showing that the services had in fact been carried out. Cinch had even paid for one of the cars to have a full service at a Toyota main dealer the week before it was delivered to us. From what I gather, used cars tend to be cheaper and more plentiful in the UK than in Ireland for example, so I don't think dealers would have much to gain by importing cars from Ireland to Britain. It's far more common for cars to exported in the other direction in my experience.

  45. Thanks for the detailed response, but there are now couple of additional questions; is there an easy way to spot a parallel import and is the service history uploaded to the car or is it still the old fashioned stamps in a book?

  47. If they abolished all on-going car taxes, i.e. VAT, fuel tax and VED, and priced it reasonably, then I could consider it, but given how untrustworthy the powers that be have proven to be so far I'd rather stick with what we've got - If they force this through, it just opens the door for them to jack it up every time they want new duck house, or use it to track everyone so they know what roads to block up to cause maximum congestion. At this point I'd rather just have them all shot and use the money we save from not paying their wages, expenses and pet projects to reduce the deficit.
    1 point
  48. Depends how you view worth. A service plan enables one to pay monthly and it fixes the cost of servicing for the duration of the plan.
