  1. It never fails to amaze me. A manufacturer finds a safety related fault, customer thinks it's a scam to con money out of you We do a visual inspection report on every car that comes in, it's a duty of care for you and your car. Lot's of people never check a thing under the bonnet, let alone tyre tread depths etc. When we report a car needing any work, it's up to you if you take ownership of that. Many people with older cars will leave the garage with faults that should be rectified immediately, it's up to the customer to approve or decline anything that needs doing

  2. Escalate directly to Toyota UK customer service as a complaint, detail issues comprehensively, what you would like them to do i.e. full investigation. Explain to them what your (I presume local) dealer's response was to your concerns. Sounds like you are just being 'fobbed off'. Various dealers are notorious for sidestepping their customer's concerns, partly down to poor attitude, partly down to wasting to avoid warranty work like the plague.

  3. Our old Corolla which I never dreamt we would keep as long as we have has been getting many letters from Toyota (well I have, not the car 🙂) over the airbag recall. Fully aware of this recall I have to admit that for various reasons it has not been done as yet... well actually lets start at the beginning... the passenger side was done around 4 years or so back and I was less than impressed because I had to return immediately as the airbag warning light illuminated.   4. and to add what John P said in above post, surely you will have to retain proof that the parts you used were approved by Toyota. Lets face it, here we are talking about vehicle warranty, a lot of money at stake, no manufacturer is going to want any joe soap back street garage do work that potentially has warranty implications.   5. Hi Joe All good points made by the hybrid owners. I have a petrol 1.2t Auris so my findings for my own car are - Reasonably low emissions (£30 per year road fund licence), My average mpg is 51 used in a mixture of road and traffic conditions, it has a full size spare wheel which isn't always included in a hybrid car due to the large and heavy hybrid battery taking up vehicle space. The petrol versions are usually less expensive than the hybrid equivalent. I personally find a manual gearbox better for me than an automatic. The hybrid vehicles require a hybrid battery check every

  6. I'm a recent convert to Hybrid motoring. I have a new style Yaris, they're really refined and quiet, cracking economy (often get an indicated 70 plus mpg). So that's positives taken care of. Negatives, none so far, but others report 12v battery problems, and there's also the question of catalytic convertor thefts.

Imho they will not give you the time of day - I would get a few quotes from body shops as you will have prove you didn't cause the damage Motabilty cars are on a 3 or 5 year contract at 2 years old it was either a take back as the owner lost their DLA/PIP or there was an issue, only Motability operations or RSAM will know if the damage was repaired under their contract - the info is rarely recorded on the insurance database so will not show up on a HPI check either I'm not going into detail, but this is a common dealer practice they never do the repair work or put the repairs in writ

  10. 2015 was a model change year, pre facelift models had spares fitted in most conventional engine hatchback and tourer models, hatchback hybrids got repair kits, all models got a dual level deck with the upper level adjusting up - down and the space saver sitting below the lower floor, it is possible to add a space saver spare to the hybrid HB but Toyota say it is not recommended as when fitted it protrudes into the lower level space and leaves an uneven floor.   12. Where did you hear that? It actually is Brake. Reinforcing what Catlover and Tony HSD have already said, I'll add the folllowing. While the second part of your statement is correct, the first part is actually the opposite of what happens. The idea of B is to reduce the amount of charge into the battery so it takes longer to fill going down steep grades. The extra braking come from the engine (ICE) being reconfigured to provide a higher level of engine braking. I would only use B for any grade descent where the battery was not totally full before reaching the bottom. I can

  13. Thanks for that! I had to go to hosptial this morning for some tests, It's a round trip of 14 miles (all urban driving) and the trip computer recorded 79 mpg for the trip, so it's fantastically economically for around town driving.

What the hybrid warranty actually means is:- when the standard warranty on the hybrid battery expires, an annual hybrid battery Heath check (included in the annual/10,000 mile vehicle service) extends the hybrid battery warranty by one year. This continues up to total 15 year from new. Repeat... that is a 15 year warranty on the hybrid battery. What other motor manufacturer has confidence to put a up to 15 year warranty on a major component in their vehicle.???

  17. Hi, I am also a fairly recent convert to hybrid motoring and also have a new style Yaris. A friend of mine who has a 2015 Auris just had his catalytic converter stolen and now I am beginning to worry that mine may be at risk. I've searched here, there and just about everywhere on the net but cannot find any stories of Yaris's being targeted by thieves. I may be wrong but I believe it may be due to the fact that the cat in a Yaris is different - according to a picture I saw on eBay of a seller who has listed a second hand cat for a yaris.   18. Hybrid for me for all the above reasons. Greener to the environment. Good MPG, Reliability, auto, which I like. Practical for me as have estate. Only negative of a Toyota Hybrid is catalytic converter thefts on Auris, Prius, Rav 4 and now reports on new Corolla 1.8. I have a 2015 Auris Hybrid estate with my own Ebay cat cover. So far, so good, but try not to leave the car for too long in say a Supermarket car park. I can't think of any other car I would buy apart from Toyota. Was thinking of an Octavia but worried about DSG gearbox and mostly poor spec in my budget. Hybrid was what r

  19. and Gen 1s too!. A few of the owners I've been chatting to on another group since 2000 (and met in one or two cases at the various meets we used to have in those days) have been hit. Some have been written off as even a pristine 20 or so year old car isn't worth very much [*], some have been repaired at their owner's expense, including one or two that were repaired relatively cheaply using 3rd party parts and a competent back street repairer.   20. I would endorse all that's been said. I've done over 330,000 miles since 2002 in 2 Gen 1 Prius, 3 Gen 2, a Gen 3 and a Gen 4. All enjoyable and trouble free. I find the smooth, gearless progress and silent engine-off low speed travelling a lot of the time has a chilling effect, and rarely feel the need to race anyone away from the lights. Also, I try to show respect and patience to others, never push in or drive aggressively, and I find that is reflected back a lot of the time no matter what I'm driving.   21. After a few moments googling, I found this picture of a 1.8 Corolla manifold on eBay. This makes things clearer. The heat shield that is prominent in the second picture (below) is missing on this, which helps to see what's going on, so the catalyst is part of the manifold. For compactness, the 2nd oxygen sensor is on the next part of the pipe, after the joint, it seems., which is just visible in the OP's picture.   23. I now have the Michelin Cross Climates fitted; the car does 'feel' better on the road and is noticeably quieter. Arnold Clark Glasgow honored their promise and sent a cheque for one tyre as soon as I submitted the invoice; as I said before, full marks to them. Reassuring to know big dealerships really do care when a problem arises. Going off at a slight tangent, I completed the vehicle upgrading by fitting Bosch wiper blades. I would not be surprised if a few taxi's are around for sale with business owners reducing their fleets etc. And they may well have lower mileage as we are into the second year of restrictions now. My Amazon book purchase came by taxi the other day, with a business card attached to the Amazon box, by one taxi owner managing to find another source of income during the current nightmare. Also, quite a few second hand vehicles 1 or 2 years old with very low mileage, I imagine.

  26. Leather car seats examined by dealer. They are really not bothered. With lockdown and not prepared to allow me to compare the seating with other cars on forecourt. Am considering going to upholsterer as the pain is now continual after a long run and I put it down to the lack of adequate padding beneath the leather. the idea that because this is the sports version and therefore only suitable for short journeys would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious.

I beg to differ because my car has to be parked on my drive at the moment & if the sensor was activated while I was asleep in bed it would certainly wake me up & probably the whole neighbourhood. I guess the thieves would clear off pretty sharpish & I doubt if they’d have the guts to hang around while that racket was going on. I might even gain a jack out of the deal because they wouldn’t have time to remove it! I have had a catloc fitted by my Toyota garage & the cat is stamped with a special anti-theft code so that if it’s stolen & then sold on it can be traced. Has

  29. Just shows that the Citroen cars with hydraulic suspension were ahead of their time - lower the suspension down when parked, closer to the floor then a Prius. Lovely ride as well. I owned a few Citroen’s with that feature.

  31. Update on this issue. The service manager and myself have agreed that the best option would be for me to drive and for a technician to accompany me. That way I could ensure that the noise heard was indeed the one I was concerned about. With the covid restrictions this isn't possible and we agreed to wait till accompanied test drives were possible. It now seems the vehicle has decided not to make the noise. So I shall leave it till the service dept get back in touch with me. Hopefully it will never happen again. Foot note. The Yaris has been through its first winter. The mpg

With my insurer, two of several conditions in the policy state they won't pay out as regards damage, theft or attempted theft: # If your car is left unlocked or with window or roof open # If the ignition device (key fob) is left in, on or attached to your car or left in the immediate proximity of the car or in range of where the ignition device is effective. I would suggest that most UK car insurance policies contain similar conditions. Although your profile shows you are not in the UK, I would check your policy and probably amend how you store your car.

  34. It could be if key and the car are communicating all the time. Best to keep the key away from the car in metal box, faraday case or cola can this prevents transmission of any signals from the key fob, good against theft too. 👍

  35. All down to personal preferences about the bonnet and checks. I just love to do it, even on company cars, lease cars or rental cars doesn’t matter. First thing to do after I receive the key is to take the car to my drive and get it check thoroughly, wash and interior clean if necessary and then I can called “My Car”, but that’s just me. 🚘😉🇯🇵

  36. The dipstick tube is not very straight on this engine. (This isn't my car, by the way - we have an Auris.) I suspect that the dipstick tube is a soft steel (it's galvanised, but rusts anyway), and the dipstick itself is hard (stainless?) spring steel. Perhaps this means the dipstick is more able to scratch the dipstick pipe on its way in or out, and cause a drag whilst doing so? Not on topic exactly, but interesting to see that the block is still machined to take a starter motor, even though there isn't one in this application.

  38. Nick, the misunderstanding about B was prevalent way before the “latest 2.0 litre” models were for sale. The misunderstanding should not be. I have two completely different Toyota hybrid cars, 2010 Auris and Prius Gen4, and two different Operators Manual. I have already stated what each manual says about the use of B and basically both read the same. Like a lot of queries, today “we” tend to use forums to get answers, whereas if first we referred to the manufacturers manual we would get a “true” answer, and not one passed from one to another and very often inaccurate.   40. It do look a bit 'sharper' and stands out from the crowd. In Denmark it's only comes with the 1.8 liter engine. The higher trims cannot be selected when buying Trek, I dont know why, makes no sense.

  41. An update since my last post. After replacing the oil pressure switch, the oil pressure light was still showing intermittently (along with the engine noise). Took it to a mechanic I have used in the past. He removed the sump, the oil pick up pipe was blocked and lots of carbon deposits (see photos attached). Cleaned and it solved both the oil pressure issues and the whining noise (most likely related to not enough oil going to the oil pump). 2 months on the car is running fine. Hopefully this willhelp anyone who may experience a similar issue. Thanks again @oldcodger

So after 5 months of CHR ownership, being dogged by paint marks on the roof at delivery and an awful condensation issue which Toyota could never get to the bottom of, I finally picked up my new RAV4 last Monday. I went for the 2WD Icon in Galaxy Black. With the addition of apple car play, this has all we need. mpg has been averaging about 47.9 even when driven hard. The engine is quiet and smooth and goes like stink when you want it to. gave it a good going over today; clay, polish, sealant, wax etc. absolutkey love it and can’t wait to put some miles on it.

  46. 31,000 miles is not a lot, but it is for a car max 2 years old. Average mileage I reckon is 8,000 per year, so 31k is high. This is your first car, right. You know very little mechanically, right. If you getting serious about this car, it would be right to get an independent survey done by a qualified examiner. It will cost you but it would be well worth it. I presume it’s a hybrid car, and not the 1.2 petrol??? The 1.2 was only released for a shortish period of time then ceased due to low sales.   47. Filters were not fitted until late 2014 so unless you have had a filter added there won't be one. Without a filter there is grate leading to a tube with a fan at the end this will likely be full of fluff/lint: You will need to strip the tube and fan down clean it out being careful not to over spin the fan, once clean you can add a filter over the intake grate: MK1 2010 - 2012 Auris - G92DH-12020 MK2 2012 - 2014 - G92DH-12010 With the add on filter you just pop it off and remove the captured fluff/lint

This is a common misconception about modern solar panels that do not require direct sunlight to provide an effective (low - as in our hybrids' case) charge rate that will keep the battery healthy between outings. Also, I don't know of a single Toyota that has a lighter socket that remains live when the ignition is off. The best panels to get are the ones that also provide an OBDII connector/adapter because this will always provide direct access to the small 12V battery.

  49. To me, a Corolla hatch is a downgrade from a Gen4 Prius. From comments on this forum the Corolla hatch has a lot less room in the rear for passengers. The Corolla saloon or estate may be a different matter, cause they are the same wheelbase as a Prius. All 3 models do less mpg then a Prius Gen4, so still don’t see a Corolla of any sort being an upgrade over a Gen4 Prius. It this is a long way off topic of the original post about spare wheel.
