GR Sport – a newcomer for the Toyota C-HR hybrid SUV range
The new 2021 Toyota C-HR hybrid SUV is now available in the UK, with a revised line-up that features new GR Sport models inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing’s world championship winning success in international rally and endurance racing competition.

The GR Sport grade, available with both 1.8 and 2.0-litre self-charging hybrid electric powertrains, makes its mark with powerful exterior styling details, including a black finish for the headlight and fog light housings, central bumper section and the background to the Toyota emblem. There’s a more prominent front spoiler, black door mouldings and wheel arch surrounds, dark-tinted LED headlights and a dark chrome finish for the grille. At the rear, there is a black spoiler, black reflector surrounds, an under-bumper trim and GR badging.

Larger, 19-inch GR Sport five-double-spoke alloy wheels are fitted, with a contrasting black and bright machined finish and 225/45 Continental Premium Contact tyres. A bi-tone paint finish is standard, with eight colour options including a new Ash Grey, combined with a black roof, pillars and door mirror casings.

The black theme continues in the cabin with a new fabric upholstery for the sports front seats, with a woven centre stripe in GR Sport colours. The same design is also available in black Alcantara as an option, together with power adjustment for the front seats. There are also GR-branded scuff plates and perforated leather steering wheel trim with red stitching. A contrasting silver deco line extends across the instrument panel and the stop/start button carries the GR Sport red and black logo.

The sports styling is matched with sharper handling, with stiffened front and rear springs to increase damping force and retuned steering for better response.

All C-HR models benefit from an upgrade to the Toyota Safety Sense system, adding Lane Trace Assist and extending the Pre-Collision System’s functionality to include cyclist detection in daylight driving. There is also a new dark chrome 18-inch alloy wheel design for the Excel grade models.

The new C-HR GR Sport models are on sale now: on-the-road prices are £31,395 for the 1.8-litre version and £33,015 for the 2.0-litre.

Toyota's New Dark Star: The RAV4 Black Edition
As its name makes clear, the new RAV4 Hybrid Black Edition has a powerful one-colour treatment that makes Toyota’s mid-size SUV stand out from the crowd

The deep Galaxy Black paint finish throws the angles and facets of the bodywork into sharp relief, an effect heightened by matching black styling elements throughout. The front grille and lower grille, lower bumpers, door mirror casings, skid plates, rear garnish and spoiler are all-black, while the 19-inch alloy wheels also have a glossy black finish. Even the Intelligent Clearance Sonars are painted black, so the only interruption in the all-black appearance is the chrome Toyota emblem in the centre of the car’s front end.

In the cabin, the seats are upholstered in a high-quality black synthetic leather with grey stitching. This combines with the black headlining and interior trim to create a striking cabin ambience.

The standard and optional equipment features match the current RAV4 Dynamic grade and include, among others, intelligent parking sensors, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, digital rear-view mirror, a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system with DAB. Toyota Safety Sense and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both provided as standard.

The new RAV4 Hybrid Black Edition will go on sale in the UK from October 2020, with price to be announced nearer the on-sale date.

Toyota reveals the All-New Yaris Cross Compact SUV
Toyota has revealed the all-new Yaris Cross, a compact, authentic SUV that will go on sale in the UK and Europe in 2021

Yaris Cross has been designed and developed for Europe and is an authentic SUV, with a raised ride height, higher driving position and the option of an intelligent all-wheel drive system (AWD-i).

It is built on Toyota’s new GA-B compact car platform, which is also being used for the new Yaris hatchback, due for launch in summer 2020. This ensures a high level of body rigidity and a well-balanced chassis, making the car responsive and agile to drive.

Yaris Cross has the same 2,560mm wheelbase as the hatchback, but is 240mm longer overall, securing more interior space. The ground clearance is 30mm higher and the vehicle is taller and wider overall.

It will be powered by Toyota’s new, fourth generation self-charging hybrid electric system. This has a maximum output of 114bhp, with CO2 emissions starting from below 120g/km for the front-wheel drive model (WLTP provisional data, subject to homologation).

AWD-i provides extra stability and traction in everyday driving, in poor conditions and on low-grip surfaces. An electric system, it is more compact and weighs less than mechanical AWD units, helping the Yaris Cross Hybrid achieve better fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than any of its all-wheel drive B-SUV competitors.
