  1. Hi, How many filters are installed? I know only these.. Fuel filter, Air filter (near battery). are there any other filter for heater & AC??/ How often should these be changed? Please reply in detail.. many thanks Regards, Bilal
  2. Thanks for your detailed reply. I will use 5w30 or 5w40 this time as well. I checked on Ebay for Mobil 5w40, One seller is selling £29.99 for 5L including postage. Item number: 150709214838 Now regarding, petrol... Some expert on this forum shared his experience, As these cars Avensis 2000-2002 VVTI had oil consumption problem. That expert said that his car was consuming oil about 1 liter for 500 -1000 miles. Then he started using High Octane petrol, and after about 5 full tanks, problem got disappeared. According to him efficiency was also improved. I can also witness these facts. My car gives me 340 to 360 miles per tank (combined Urban). I am hoping to keep this car for 1-2 years and want it running smoothly. Only 2 problems left.. Engine light is on, checked with OBDII cable myself. Its justO2 sensor heater issue. Didn't effect MOT last time. I bought O2 sensor, but couldn't remove the old one. Tried different penetrating oils and freez off sprays but no luck yet. Will do it some time later. other issue is, steering makes noise when cutting from left to right during parking on very low speed. Solution is .. bottom of the steering column need to grease. I will do both things this month and upload its results, so that other people have good idea how to deal with this kind of problems.. Thanks, Regards, Bilal
  3. Hi All, Greetings... When I bought this car I have been checking its oil level and it didn't drop even by one ml. But since I changed its oil (Total Fuel economy 5w30) I have noticed that oil level dropped from Maximum level to middle of maximum and minimum level. I tooped it up again to maximum and then after couple of weeks it dropped again to middle of maximum and minimum. I use Super high Octanne petrol (premium quality)available on BP pumps. Some people suggested that it is an old car (70 k mileage on clock) so I shouldn't use thin engine oil i.e. 5w30 instead I should use 10w40. Last time before changing oil, I used engine flush too. I have also checked for leakages and cannt see any. Any suggestions or previous experiences??/ Your advice and sharing will be really appreciated. thanks, Regards, Bilal
  4. Many many thanks for your kind advice and valuable info. Actually I prefer to do jobs on my car myself as much as possible. and ofcourse do my home work and research before getting down the car. Just yesterday, one of my friend who has the same car, was billed by quickfit about £480 for car service. Which includes, oil change, filters etc, brake pads etc. He can afford these because he is Doctor. And regarding brake pads, I am gonna go for Akebono pads, as they are ceramic and have good repute. Thanks thanks thanks
  5. Hi All, I was wondering what is the location of fuel filter in toyota avensis 2002 1.8 vvti model? A couple of things more How often spark plugs should be changed? 6 months or year?? or when they give problem? I need to change brake pads? should I buy any particular brand? like ferodo or any one will do the job? I checked on Ebay, a top ebay seller is selling for £15 including postage. Ferodo cost about £40? Any suggestions???? Thanks in advance, Bilal
  6. thanks for your reply. honesly i dont know what is and where is auxilary drive belt? i bought the car in july 2011 and it was ok. i realised this sound after I changed oil. I put oil 5w30 TOTAL fuel economy (which recommends oil chang after 5000-8000 miles), and done 2100 miles now on new oil. This sound is not very loud, cannt hear it when I am inside car, or more than 10 feet away. it gradually disappears after the engine warms. Fuel economy is very good as well. Whe I bought the car, in 2 months it didn't consumed even one ml engine oil. But after a mishapp, when I mistakenly put 10 litre diesel in the car. Tank was empty that time, so I full the tank with petrol (super high octane)and drove. didn't have any engine problem. since then tank has been full with super octane more than 5 times. I check engine oil every other week, on chcking I found out that oil level was reduced to minimum level. I filled it up to maximum again. will the above incident effect engine badly? Is this squeaking sound because of diesel incident or I put thinner engine oil than recommended?? Look to your kind reply, Cheeers, Bilal
  7. hi you have to immedidately either change of tight the cam belt to prevent engine damaging subject to valves meet pistons. Cheers/Igor thanks for your reply. I didnt understand, do I need to change cam belt or what? but I have heard that this car (1.8 toyota avensis vvti) comes with chain belt which doesn't need to change?/ please explain in details.. cheers.. Bilal
  8. hi firstly you have to check with battery acid density to be assured and exclude battery from issues chain. secondly - stasrter clicking might be resulted it needs solenoid to be serviced/greased; in third -- sometimes the starter primer gear can not be engaged due to braking effect between solenoid inner liner with stem (due to possible rust or so); in forth - what feeding voltage comes to the starter? Cheers/Igor Thanks igor for yourkind and detailed reply. Thank God, problem is sorted out. It was just battery down. I had to start car with jump leads and now it is fine. The only problem is I couldn't find the reason for battery to go down. I always check lights and every other thing before locking car. The only thing I leave is mobile charger which I leave it plugged in. I don't think this will be the reason. I checked battery shortage as well. Igor... there is another thing not directly related to this topic though, when I start car there is squeaking noise of cam belt, which reduces as the engine becomes warm. This car comes with chain cam belt so I think it doesn't need to be replaced. So can we grease/oiled the chain cam belt?? Look to your reply, Kind regards
  9. Hi, Today when I got into my car and turn the key, I could hear relay ticking sound but starter motor didn't engage or start? Battery is fine. I drove yesterday every thing was fine, starts every time with half self,. I have been maintaining it well. The other thing was that Driver's side door wasn't locking. I was only able to lock other three doors with remote key. I locked driver's side door manually with key. Any body has any clue.. what will be the problem.. do I need to check fuses and relays? how do I check starter motor (self motor)? Please help me to resolve this issue. thanks in advance car specifications are.. toyota avensis 1.8 VVTI hatchback 2001 72k miles on clock
  10. Hi All, Check engine light is on on my toyota avensis 2001 1.8 VVTI GS. the error code is "p0155 O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank2 sensor1)". As for as I read around and researched the reasons can be 1. o2 sensor on bank2 (pre-catalytic which is on passensger side on top of engine) is malfunctioning so needs to be replaced or 2. Fuse/relay is blown due to water in o2 sensor harness, so only fuse should be relaced or 3. A wire in sensor is broken or faulty As I test my car engine through OBDII tool, it gave me almost optimum readings parameter. I have attached a file of OBDII data in text form when engine was left start and idle. Can any body help me whats wrong here. data is about short trim fuel, MAF, SENSOR voltage etc.. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance TOYOTA AVENSIS.pdf

Engine management light is due to the code p0155 o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank2 sensor1. I came across a video on Youtube that it is not always due to the bad sensor, but instead can be caused by fuse. the link is Please help me to locate this fuse so that I could check it before changing the oxygen sensor.
