  1. alternator alloy corroding from inside out causing short across its body or its diodes? is it the charge fuse? try disconnecting alt wires anyway to rule it out. if not check the scuttle panel for build up of leaves etc and filling up with water
  2. Just to conclude this thread on an older model that probably wont see much demand for this type of repair by folk in the future. but may help someone Got that aftermarket filler neck which was the correct type with the part number supplied by flash22 , fitted perfect and is solid. I thought i was gonna have major bolt snapping issues but it went better than i expected. Only the top bolt that goes through a captive nut on a bracket welded to chassis would not budge due to the exposed threads at the back becoming well deformed with rust, so just drilled and speed screwed that, the other 2 bolts into chassis came free with a couple of hammer shocks to the socket, the main jubilee clip had to be "corn beef tin mullered" with some vise grips but the small breather spring clip was no bother. just try minimise rust falling into tank on removal, i replaced the fuel filter as a precaution The fill tube piece at filler fuel flap door just popped out and in to the rubber gaiter piece no problems. i gave a few coatings of plastidip after these pics were taken as i had it spare and not bothering to fit the plastic trim that lets road debris accumulate ,
  3. haha yes take your bag off the passenger seat
  4. should have "srs airbag" embossed on the wheel
  5. i have a company van that i can use for personal use so my personal cars i have owned can potentially sit for weeks and for this i have a solar panel that can sit on my dashboard keeping my battery good https://www.halfords.com/motoring/battery-maintenance/battery-accessories/12v-6-watt-solar-maintainer---upto-200ah-196489.html this is similar to mine however mines was £20 and may be smaller
  6. i have plastidip i can coat the new pipe with but the cars never going to last another 15 years anyway lol
  7. Thanks with that part number i have ordered one from germany for £103 to my door, just hope international shipping isnt majorly affected at the moment and i get it in the next week or 2
  8. kingo ? price and availability?
  9. ok it does not fit. I asked supplier and bought it but nope its not even close its miles too big and wrong shape completely Suppose i will need to get one from toyota if available as there seem to be none floating about on the internet for my vintage. Was thinking of a bodge as others have done with hose or similar but id rather replace completely to save any more debris finding its way into tank and also not a lot of wheel clearance So need to return this and pay return postage lol waste of time ! thanks anyway
  10. sounds like the belt is too tight and psteer pump bearing is squealing
  11. nope but like the curtain idea on the import day vans like the nissan elgrand / honda stepwagon / toyota alphard when they are in camper guise. not get a set of caravan curtains or something?
  12. just a brain !Removed! but id start looking at them backwards p0488 egr sluggish gummed up or sticking / possible causing p0102 low maf reading due to sticking egr allowing intake through egr instead of maf / possibly causing p0045 boost issues also and other code erroneous
  13. these seem to all be related to 4.3 and not my 4.2 model so have sent an enquiry to yam6 to see if its same one ta
  14. +1 starter motor that starts carbon brush conductive dust inside windings to body, strip and blow out is cheapest solution or a service exchange from an auto electrical mob at 100 quid or so if it needs brushes
  15. your mate has been shafted there is no way you can fit that upside down and the axle? or subframe does not need dropped to remove a rear (or front) swaybar on this car ( i had both mine out today changing anti roll bar bushes 12 mm socket for the bush clamps plus a 16mm or whatever size your drop link nut is.
  16. ok this must be a common problem the wifey drives a 2005 rav 4.2 d4d 1cdftv After "having kittens" thinking my rear diff was graunching into oblivion it turned out that the fuel filler plastic cover was damp and distorted causing a rotational scuffing noise on the wobble of the tyre that sounded like metal to metal . Anyway removed that and the metal pipe was red rotten, went to clean it up and it started falling in on itself so now need to get a new neck and filter to go with it. problem is i might be unlucky but on the usual sites i can only find mk3 d4d necks ! Are the the same pipe as the mk2?? i see petrol ones but they look different someone steer me in right direction ta
  17. some dont require done but if it does it will run fine short term, coding just tells ecu the exact fuel trims and spray pattern to get a more refined injection stroke to meet its current euro4 or whatever requirements and in extreme cases to stop washing the bore with fuel. its a piece of pish to do with the Delphi software and interface that is usually found on ebay
  18. home made blanking plate made from a 4mm piece of alu sheet or similar, i have done it to an avensis and a rav4 and been ok for years , smoke check unreadable on mot , engine is smoother and more responsive 1cd-ftv engine 2.0 d4d, i remove battery neg for a minite before mot to get the light off for a while that's all but i take it you are gonna get the mil code mapped out anyway.
  19. When weight shifts to rear right corner? Wheel bearing?
  20. Done my front left wheel. Bearing last week I could have sworn it was transfer box...it would hum and rumble above 25 mph at any left right straight ahead position until one day it maniffested itself as wheel bearing noise dissapearing on left turns when weight shifted to right hand side and lifted off the left. All smooth now
  21. The parcel shelves are pish. The get In The way and look crap too with the pull out blind type parts that can't hold anything. Blacked out windows suffice .y first mod was give away the parcel shelf
  22. In my experience ECUs are protected in Thier own right on Thier own node or environment if you like. I'd say a short circuit injector coil or the valve itself or canbus shorting problem would potentially harm the edu as they are connected. If your power socket done harm before it's fuse blew then there would have to be some foreign wiring tapping off something on the edu environment Think every fuse you have on your care.g. like a wiper relay fuse blown due to a short in the relay coil could harm any ECU or module..it doesn't bear thinking about. So I'd say if valve and wiring are ok it's just bad luck the driver in edu for this circuit has failed
  23. dodgy door switch? is interior light illuminating when alarm sounds.
  24. after clutch i recently put engine oil in my box for 100 miles to flush it it worked like silk with engine oil but not to tempt fate replaced it with a gl4 75/80 . many gm and ford manual boxes run on atf it gets round all bearings and components and light / less power drag from transmission. if it can take the pressure on bearings and gears from autoboxes over 500nm easy and manual transits lugging over 3500kgs day in day out its well over rated for a normal car. just need to make sure all trans seals are good
