    Bonnet Stone Chip Rust

    Evening all, Noticed a few stone chips starting to rust on my bonnet (see attached) that I'm keen to sort before they get worse. What's the best way to deal with them quickly/cheaply? I have one of these kits which I've used successfully on inner door chips where the base coat was still intact but not sure if the fibre glass tool will do much to remove the rust. I've seen people mention good things about Kurust, but not sure if that will get to the "halo"/areas affected underneath the paint. Most of the other guides I've seen seem to involve taping off and sanding down large areas which are then sprayed which seems excessive for rust spots ~1cm across! Thanks in advance.

    Rav 4.3 2008 2.2 - time to go?

    Thanks for the reply. Mileage now around 115k. When I say no major coolant losses, I've never noticed the level fall considerably in the tank although it has been topped up during services, etc. not sure by how much. The white staining is less than 5p sized when it does return. I'll give regular branded diesel a go. Be interesting to see if any difference in mileage, getting between 430 to 480 miles out of a tank at present.

    Rav 4.3 2008 2.2 - time to go?

    Evening all, I've had my Rav 4 2.2 D-4D XT5 for almost four years but now thinking it's maybe time to trade in. I'm paranoid about the head gasket issue rearing its head 🙂 so have always used V-Power/Ultimate which is now 10p more per litre (x 45 to 50l, up to five times a month). Could I switch to regular diesel without risking head gasket failure? About six months ago a weep from the water pump was noted, the pump was then replaced. I've had no problem with heating in the car but have noticed a small amount of white residue on the coolant bottle from time to time but no major loss of coolant. I have noticed dark (not black) smoke when with high revs when accelerating to speed, not sure if that is related. No record of 3/4 engine reubuild on MyToyota. Based on the experiences here, is it only a matter of time before head gasket failure?
  4. Hello all! Lots of useful info/people on here so I've been a long time reader however this is my first post. Purchased a 2008 XT5 2.2 Diesel from Arnold Shark around three weeks ago. Enjoying it so far (apart from needing water drained from the fuel filter after two weeks!). I currently have 1 month left of the warranty and was curious to know if a noticable "scraping" type noise with a wee bit more vibration is normal at idle without the clutch depressed? I've also noticed a knocking sound when I turn the engine off. Maybe it's a bit of paranoia or the fact that I'm just not used to a diesel car sounding like a minibus after having only petrol cars in the past! I've attached a recording, the level is quite low. Mostly audible at around 8s, clutch pressed at 13s and released at 15s. Ignore sunroof closing at 26s. You can hear the knocking sound on killing the ignition at 30s. Thanks J Voice_0041_.mp3
