    Rav4 oil leak

Hi all, I am looking for some help please , I have owned my 2009 rav4 sr180 for about 4 years now , just after I purchased it the head gasket failed, so I had the 3/4 engine fitted by main dealer. Whilst they were doing the work they asked if I would like to put a new clutch in at my cost and i said yes please. All seemed good as I had a nice new engine and clutch fitted. However, after only 30000 miles the clutch started to slip so I went back to where work was done and asked why the clutch would fail in 30000 miles ? surley it should last longer than that! , so mechanic took it out for a quick drive and confirmed yes clutch has gone and I was told because it had been longer than 18 months since work was carried out I would have to pay another £1000+ to have another clutch fitted. I couldnt afford this and was really disappointed in toyotas response so I decided to take my rav to a local garage to have clutch fitted. The mechanic said the problem to the slipping clutch was apparent as soon as the undertray was taken off because there was an oil leak between the engine and gearbox -so over time engine oil had contaminated the clutch which caused it to slip! I was told by my local mechanic that the oil leak seemed to be coming through the flywheel bolts which he thought was strange and unusal. Because of this I had a new rear mainseal fitted and thread sealer was applied to flywheel bolts as well as a new clutch pushing my bill up! . Everything had been going ok for about a month but when I looked underneath car today the oil leak is back - absolutley gutted. It’s not alot of oil but its going to be enough to wreck another clutch! Has anyone ever heard of this problem before or know how i can solve it ? I wish I had noticed this oil leak sooner after the work was carried out on the engine by the main dealer then I would have been covered under warranty. I really don't want to part with car as its a cracking motor !! I would appreciate any advice or ideas on where i go from here please. Many Thanks
  3. Hi all , im after some advice please , I’ve had my 2009 rav4 sr180 for about 3/12 years now , when I first purchased it I was soon to find out it had the pressure in expansion tank common problem ,thanks to this forum I was pleased to find out that Toyota would cover the cost for this fault by fitting a new engine block free of charge which they did , the only thing I paid for which was my choice was to have a new clutch fitted ,at the time my rav had covered 64000 miles so I thought it would be a good idea at the cost of about £350 for the part and was fitted free of charge while Work was carried out on engine , so I’ve had more or less 3 1/2 years of trouble free motoring ,but now after only covering 30,000 miles the clutch has started to slip when in 5th or 6th gear on acceleration , I know I am out of warranty after 12 months on parts , but surely a clutch shouldn’t wear out after 30,000 miles , what would be the cost of fitting another clutch by main dealer ? , or would I be better off finding a local garage to carry out work to save on cost , it has been by far the best car I’ve had so I’m going to have to get it sorted one way or another, I would really appreciate any advice THANK YOU !

    Rav4 Intermediate Shaft Question ?

hello, I've had the knocking / popping noise in steering wheel for about 6 months now so I decided to get it sorted, I fitted a new no1 intermediate shaft and I've still got the knocking noise , I think I've now narrowed it down to a worn knuckle joint on shaft no2 , has anyone else has had the same problem before I go and waste some more of my hard earned cash !! Thanks Brent

Sr 180 Trouble After New Engine Fitted

Thanks for the replies!! Turns out it was blocked dpnr or dpf, I was told it must have cleared itself , so they put it through a regen and took it for a spin and said all is fine, am I likely to get this problem all the time? I don't use supermarket fuel as I know this doesn't help matters,is there anything else I can do to prevent it happening again? Thanks Brent
  12. Hi all , My first month of owning a second hand rav4 sr180 hasn't been a pleasant experience, in the first two weeks I found that it had head gasket failure so I had the engine replaced by mr t , so I thought I should be fine now with a new 3/4 engine and a new egr valve, I also had the clutch replaced at my cost which was my choice, so after doing about 500 or so miles everything seemed fine until this flashed up on dash CHECK ..ESC ... Vsc... 4x4 I was on motorway at the time car was still running fine then it put me on limp mode, after a few scary moments managed to pull in switched car off then it went ok for about a mile then back to limp mode , then for the last quarter of my long journey it seemed to go ok lights on dash still on though , I managed to get it home ok and just left it over the weekend,I've just been to take it for quick spin before it goes back to dealer to have it checked and the warning lights have just gone out .. My question is will these faults still be on system when they check it tomorrow ,I don't fancy another trip like the one I had in limp mode, I really like the car but reliability is a must especially when the mrs is ferrying the kids about , just hope it is something simple fingers crossed !

    Sr180 Having A New Engine

Hi all , After buying a rav4 sr180 from my local garage (not a toyota dealer) I found it had the coolant coming out of expansion tank problem , only had the car for 7 days, I had a quick look at this forum and found the info I needed to go back to my garage and tell them about the suspected problem, so they sent the car to my local toyota dealer who confirmed it was head gasket fault, and it would be having a new 3/4 engine under the toyota warranty, the car has done 63000 miles 58 plate , I was really pleased with the car for the short time that I had it , I just hope it will be ok after having this work done, my local toyota dealer has been more than helpful and I am hoping to pick the car up tomorrow, it is having a new clutch fitted (at my cost) while they are doing the engine,I didn't expect this problem from a toyota engine ,but at least they have recognised the problem and are doing something about it ,so I just hope all is well when I pick it up ,fingers crossed !!
  15. Hi I'm new to the forum, already finding it very helpfull after buying a 2009 rav sr180 from a local garage only to find it had the coolant blowing from expansion tank , after the initial panic stations ,it is now at my local toyota garage having the 3/4 engine replacement free of charge ,just hope it all goes well !! Thanks to the info on this forum I was able to tell my local garage what the likely problem was with the car,so they sent it to my local toyota who have been very helpful ,I was in two minds wether or not to keep the car, but for the 7 days I had the car I was very impressed by it ,so I decided to see it through and keep it ,just hope I've made the right choice !!
