  1. Thanks for responding. I spoke to my local guy whose done various cars of mine! Basically he thinks it's either the oil seals or the piston ring! Either way I'd be looking at £600 to £1500 to repair it!! Unfortunately although this is a contradiction, I can't afford to get rid of it. There's a some good news though, he suggested I could try some Wynn's stop leak and engine cleaner...he pointed out that he doesn't use it, but he knows people who have with some success. Anyway I bought some today, so I'll have to wait and see. Bottom line, I'll have to drive it into the ground!!
  2. Hi Morphy, I queried this with my local garage. Basically he said it is effectively like having a choke on start up (back in the old days), but now cars don't need them as the rev's drop when the engine reaches normal operating temperature, and to be honest that's exactly what happens on mine! Once it's warm it drops below 1000 rpm. Hope that helps.
  3. Hi, I haven't been on for a while as I've had no problems until now!! Basically I've got a 1997 Rav 4, mileage is only 85,000 so I was a bit surprised to see the occasional blast of blue smoke from the exhaust when starting! I'm not an expert, but I did work in the motor trade many years ago and I seem to remember this is a good indicator that the piston rings are on there way out! If anyone would give me an idea of the cost before I start getting quotes I would appreciate it! Thanks
  4. MrBilly, Thanks for your help, I'll see how I get on! I don't suppose you've seen any of these fobs on Ebay as a 'buy it now'?
  5. Hi Guy's, Sorry for not responding sooner! I've been talking to a guy at Lindop Toyota, he says he has got a remote for me that has the same part No: I found in another post (can't remember which one), 08191-008800. I've also spoken to some auto key people, but they weren't much help. Then I decided to see if I could find the TVSS unit on my car, well I found one near the bulkhead under the bonnet, it maybe just the 'siren' housing instead of the whole unit, but it had the following number on it 08192-42850. I've asked the Toyota guy to go back to his supplier to see if he can check this number against the remote he has sent him! If you guy's can shed any more light on this I would appreciate it...It's going to cost me £73.25 if I buy it from Lindop! I did look on Ebay but could find anything similar!
  6. Hi, Me again! Not sure if anyone has seen my previous post, but I spoke to the Toyota parts guy again today. He think that because my Rav 4 is so 'Old' it's unlikely that I'll get a remote for it? If anyone knows other wise, I would appreciate their assistance! Thanks :D :D
  7. Mike, Thanks, probably a typical Newbie mistake?
  8. Hi, I am not only a Newbie to the club, but also to owning a Rav4!! I only bought it at the weekend, and don't laugh as it's in mint condition and has only 84,000 on the clock! Re- Vehicle Security System TVSS IIIB! Basically according to my owners manual I have the above system fitted, but I don't have a remote for it, so my question really is does anyone know where I can purchase one? According to a Toyota parts person I spoke to today, I haven't got this system fitted, but personally I think he couldn't be bothered, of course I could be wrong!! I would appreciate your help. Thanks
